USE passing scores in economic universities

In 2016, state-funded places in the universities of the capital will be reduced by almost 10%. Many associate this fact with demographic situation, since the main criteria that students take into account when choosing a place of study is a sufficient number budget places and the passing score of the exam.

In order to enter a university, an applicant must score a specific number of passing points. In 2016, the passing scores in universities for the budget are higher compared to the previous year. Today, the data ratified by the Ministry of Education has already been made public. In addition to the fact that points increase upon admission to educational institution, the rules for admission have also changed somewhat.

Factors affecting the passing score

Every year, exact data on passing scores become known only after the entrance exams. Calculations are made after the students pass the exams or provide the results of the previously passed USE.

Several factors influence the passing scores in universities with budget places in Moscow:

  • the total number of students with benefits. This point is certainly taken into account, since their number is never planned, and in fact it can be both minimum and maximum. It is worth noting that beneficiaries have special privileges and are necessarily included in the list of enrolled students;
  • the total number of counts of passed entrance exams, that is, the sum of all scores in the three disciplines of the Unified State Exam is calculated;
  • number former students who have applied for admission to a university.

What is taken into account upon admission

Of great importance for admission to the budget in a city like Moscow is the submitted essay. It can be awarded up to 10 extra points if it does not have spelling and blunders and is written literary language. It should be noted that all universities reserve the right to single-handedly evaluate this exam.

The Russian language is of the utmost importance. In 2016, grades in this discipline have a strong impact on passing scores, especially on budget places in medical universities. The evaluation is influenced by the quality of the material. For this reason, students who want to enter the budget department must prepare very carefully. It can be said that educational institution of the medical direction has the full right to conduct additional tests in various professional areas. Good graded subjects significantly increase the chances of getting into the budget.

Also, attention is paid to the student's portfolio. For example, those guys who provide certificates of participation in competitions and olympiads, as well as a certificate with excellent grades, have much more chances. The privilege is also for students with awards Olympic Games or with other scientific and sports achievements. Disabled children and orphans are put in the same position as Olympians. Practice has shown that the first wave of entrance exams includes about 80% of state employees, while others enter on a paid basis.

There is no objective criterion that allows one to determine with mathematical accuracy which university in Russia is the coolest. But experts high school economies have published figures that set some priorities in this area. On the basis of HSE's annual study, Mel has figured out the latest trends in Russian higher education.

For those who are preparing for the main school exam

To begin with, according to tradition, a few numbers. Since 2015, the number of universities in Russia has decreased by 16 - from 441 to 425. The number of state-funded places has also decreased: this summer, 275,000 people entered universities on a state-funded basis, which is 5% less than last year. But based on HSE data, the merger of universities did them good: weak universities were merged with strong ones, which made the quality of their applicants much higher. True, where universities of different directions were united, the quality of admission decreased.

A dozen universities, which are very difficult to get into, have not changed much. Already long years the top two lines are occupied by MGIMO and MIPT: at the same time, the passing score at MIPT remained unchanged - 93.8. Both universities recruited about 20-30 more people for the budget than last year. Otherwise, the picture has not changed much, only the passing scores have increased: the third place went to the Higher School of Economics with an increase in the passing score by almost three points, followed by St. Petersburg State University, Lomonosov Moscow State University, MEPhI. Strongly lost in the ranking of the First St. Petersburg honey - fell to 15th position from last year's ninth.

For the first time in the top ten came St. Petersburg University information technologies, Mechanics and Optics (ITMO) and Moscow Linguistic University (MSLU). In both, the passing score increased by an average of 4.3 points, although there were also more students on the budget.

Several more important conclusions about the trends and state of Russian education can be drawn from the study.

  1. Leading universities are growing, lagging behind are falling further behind

The average score of the leading universities is growing, and the unpopular ones are losing all remnants of attractiveness. The gap between them is widening. Such dynamics is observed mainly in universities of engineering and technology, as well as natural sciences (biology, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry). The HSE concludes that the demand for engineers and specialists in the field of natural sciences At the same time, the number of budget places is growing in parallel. As a result, strong applicants choose prestigious universities that can provide them with the required level of education (even if it is paid), and bad students fill excess budget places in outsider universities.

  1. Demand for teaching and nursing professions on the rise

The proportion of applicants with high scores (more than 70) who applied for the specialty of a teacher has grown significantly. 46% enrolled versus 36% last year. The number of applicants with low scores (below 56) decreased from 19% to 15%. Medical schools occupy high positions in the ratings annually, but in the summer of 2016 increased GPA in the direction of "nursing", which happened for the first time.

  1. Farming is not popular at all.

With a huge number (more than 11 thousand) of budget places for the agricultural direction, only graduates with low USE result. At the same time, it is impossible to simply reduce the number of state-funded places here: the economy needs graduates of these specialties.

  1. Increased interest in creative specialties

Despite permanent (and other creative specialties) in universities, applicants vote for them with their feet. The average score has increased in “advertising and public relations”, “journalism and literary creativity”, “linguistics and foreign languages"," Oriental and African studies. Several times more students were admitted to these areas than the budget places were allocated.

Annual monitoring of the quality of admission to universities has been carried out since 2009. Research group HSE compiles it on the basis of data collected from university websites. This year, the monitoring was supported by the Ministry of Education and Science and the Public Chamber of the Russian Federation. The research partner is the project "Social Navigator" of MIA "Russia Today". Data are presented for 425 universities, admission to which is carried out mainly on the basis of the results of the Unified State Examination.
