In 1932, by Decree No. 667 of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR of July 29, 1932, a fruit and vine institute was organized on the basis of the departments of the Gorsky Agricultural Institute (North Ossetia). It was intended to contribute to the general rise in the culture of agriculture and animal husbandry, the development of agriculture in Dagestan and other national republics of the North Caucasus. In October 1934, the Fruit and Grape Institute was renamed the Dagestan Agricultural Institute. Prominent educators and scientists from various republics, territories and regions of the former Soviet Union took part in its organization and development: winegrowers - G.G. Agabalyants, A.S. Merzhanian and P.T. Bolgarev; fruit growers - V.A. Kolesnikov, D.N. Beketovsky; agrochemist - G.P. Zagorodny; botanist - P.P. Curlin; soil scientist V.V. Akimtsev; veterinary and zoospecialists - N.A. Zolotarev, V.V. Spassky, F.F. Nikolaev.
The first director of the Dagestan Fruit and Grape Institute was a well-known revolutionary in the North Caucasus P.I. Kovalev. In subsequent years, R. Nurov, M. Mamaev, T.P. Makhankov, I.G. Gutyr, A.M. Sorokin, Sh.-V.G. Dandamaev, D.M. Gadzhiev, M.M. Dzhambulatov, S.G. Khanmagomedov, President - Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Professor M.M. Dzhambulatov. Since 2008, the rector of the Academy has been Doctor of Veterinary Sciences, Professor Z.M. Dzhambulatov.
In the first years, representatives from Estonia, Georgia, Abkhazia, Adzharia, Ossetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Chechnya, Ingushetia and other republics of the North Caucasus and Russia studied at the university. And today representatives of more than 40 nationalities study at the academy.
Over the 75 years of its existence, the university has gone through a difficult and glorious path of formation and development from a single-faculty institute with 15 teachers and 208 students to a large modern educational institution with a team of thousands of people with established traditions and customs. On his example, one can clearly trace the growth and development of the economy and culture of the republic for almost the entire history of its statehood.
Before the war, 6 graduations took place at the institute and 229 agronomists, winegrowers and fruit and vegetable growers took an active part in the development of agriculture in the republic and other regions and republics of the country.
With the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the institute interrupted its work and was evacuated to the city of Ganja (Kirovobad), where it became part of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute. The building of the Institute housed the Leningrad Naval training detachment of submariners. Part of the teaching staff was involved in production, and among the teachers and students who went to the front, some reached Berlin and returned home with a victory, others died on the battlefields. Most of them were awarded military orders and medals. The staff of the academy keeps a grateful memory of the dead and highly honors the veterans of the Great Patriotic War who are currently working.
In 1943, the Institute was re-evacuated from Azerbaijan to Makhachkala and began its work first in the former building of the House of Highlanders, now the building of the Construction College, and since 1944 - in the building of the House of Personnel (now the main administrative and educational building of the Academy).
The post-war years were very difficult for the institute, the republic, the state, all our people. But thanks to the selfless work of the staff, the huge assistance of the government of the republic, the institute continuously increased the volume and quality of educational activities, managed to take a worthy place in the training of specialists from the indigenous peoples of the republic, who achieved good results in the development of agriculture in the specialties of agronomy, veterinary medicine and animal husbandry. It also served as a solid foundation for the further training of scientists, researchers and teachers for other educational institutions of the republic. The academy honors with gratitude the names of scientists who came at the call of the leadership of the republic from other regions of Russia: G.I. Popova, F.O. Adamanova, G.P. Zagorodny, T.S. Shpileva, D.M. Sheikh-Ali, P.P. Kurlina, V.V. Spassky, A.L. Kutsa, F.A. Kondrashova, D.I. Vinograda, G.N. Borisova, F.F. Nikolaev, A.A. Baturin and many others who made a huge contribution to the formation and development of the university.
Increasing the prestige of the Institute, the growth of the professional skills of its teaching staff, a significant strengthening of the material and technical base allowed him to open more and more new faculties and increase the number of students studying at them.
In 1994, the institute was transformed into the Federal State Institution of Higher Professional Education "Dagestan State Agricultural Academy". The new name adequately reflects the status of the university, which is a major scientific and educational center in our region for the training and advanced training of personnel in the main specialties of the agro-industrial complex and areas of vocational education.
Today, the Daggosselhozakademia is more than five thousand students, graduate students and teachers, a single multi-level educational, scientific and industrial complex: specialized classes in gymnasiums and schools, an agrarian and economic technical school, scientific and industrial bases of more than 40 research institutes and specialized farms of the republic , a university that includes 7 faculties, 32 modernly equipped departments, 5 museums, a veterinary clinic, mechanical workshops, a livestock farm, an experimental field, a training ground, collection gardens, a greenhouse facility, greenhouses.
The Academy has 4 academic buildings, a fundamental library with a 500,000-strong fund, a sports complex, student and family hostels. An Internet center was created, a branch of the Regional Center for Distance Education of the Stavropol State Agrarian University was opened as part of the implementation of a joint project of the University of Maryland (USA) with partner universities from the republics of the North Caucasus.
The Academy trains highly qualified specialists in 10 specialties on a budgetary and commercial basis in full-time and part-time forms of education.
Since 1994, a postgraduate school has been functioning, in which more than 140 graduate students and applicants study in 23 specialties in 5 branches of science.
The educational process and scientific work are conducted by over 180 doctors and candidates of sciences, professors and associate professors, 85% of them are representatives of the indigenous peoples of Dagestan, most are pupils of the academy.
For 75 years, the academy has trained about 30 thousand specialists for various branches of the agricultural economy. More than 500 of them became Heroes of Socialist Labor, honored workers of science, agriculture of the Republic of Dagestan and the Russian Federation, inventors, heads of various republican and Russian ministries, departments and organizations, awarded orders and medals. Among the graduates of the Academy: Honorary Chairman of the State Council M.-A.M. Magomedov, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Republic of Dagestan Kh.I. Shikhsaidov, Hero of Socialist Labor, director of AO3T named after. Sh. Alieva N.A. Aliyev, ministers of agriculture; Chairmen of the Committees of the Government of the Republic of Dagestan; laureates of the State Prize of the USSR: S. Bagomaev, I.D. Rotto from Stavropol and V.A. Bliznichenko - one of the creators of the Dagestan mountain breed of sheep; laureates of the State Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR and Dagestan: S.N. Nurmagomedov, N.Kh. Mamaev, M.M. Dzhambulatov, N.G. Zagirov and many other eminent our compatriots.
In today's complex conditions of the functioning of agriculture, the structure of the academy, all its divisions, the content, forms and methods of the educational process - everything is subordinated to the task of preparing highly qualified specialists adapted to modern conditions, in demand on the labor market. The quality of the educational process is constantly improving at the academy, new ones are being introduced, incl. computer technologies of training, the number of computer classes is increasing. At the created numerous branches of the departments, students get the opportunity to adapt to the real conditions of production and acquire professional skills in their future specialty.
The effectiveness of this approach is evidenced by the fact that graduates of the Daggosselhozakademiya successfully work not only in the agricultural sector, but also in almost all sectors and structures of the economy of the republic, they can be found not only in more than 30 ministries and departments of Dagestan, but also in many areas and the republics of Russia and the CIS, in their numerous academies and universities.
In difficult conditions, the scientific team of the academy, its 15 scientific schools, coordinating and conducting joint research within more than 20 federal, regional and republican programs with leading research institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Academy of Agricultural Sciences, numerous Russian and Dagestan universities and enterprises, participating in competitions and grants, received high results in many areas that are relevant and significant not only for the agriculture of the republic, but also for the country as a whole.
These are new varieties of plants and breeds of animals, new medicinal preparations; new technologies for the production and processing of agricultural products; new machines and tool systems, confirmed by numerous patents, copyright certificates and grants. Students of the academy also actively participate in scientific research.
Innovative products of the Academy only in the last 2 years have been repeatedly exhibited at exhibitions and salons of various levels, including international ones. They received 11 awards, awarded 1 State Prize for Science of the Republic of Dagestan and won 3 grants.
For achievements in the field of agricultural science, more than 100 scientists of the academy were awarded the title of laureates of state prizes of Russia, RD and honorary titles of honored workers of science, agriculture and other government awards.
The multinational student body of the academy has remarkable labor traditions and achievements. He took an active part in the development of virgin lands, the construction of the Chirkey hydroelectric power station on the river. Sulak in Dagestan, restored and built schools and hospitals in the cities and villages of the republic affected by the earthquake, terrorist attacks, and military events in the region. Students annually participate in lambing and sowing campaigns, shearing sheep, fighting epizootics; with their help, three dormitories, a sports complex, a veterinary clinic, educational and research and production facilities of departments in the educational farm and the faculty of mechanization were built; they participate in the repair of educational buildings and dormitories, and by carrying out the educational process in the educational farm, they thus acquire working professions. In 1990, with the help of students, the construction of a new building for the Academy's library was completed.
The work done by the staff of the academy was highly appreciated by the awards of the Governments of the Republic of Dagestan and Russia.
Today, when the country is moving to a market economy and integrating into the world economic community, the requirements for the content and quality of specialist training are radically changing. Lack of financial resources, undermined material and technical base, unfavorable price ratios for agricultural and industrial products, depleting natural resource potential of the regions are the conditions in which, according to experts, agriculture will function in the near future.
Stabilization, sustainable recovery of the economy, its agricultural sector, as the experience of developed countries shows, can only be achieved by transferring the economies of the regions, incl. Republic of Dagestan, on an innovative path of development based on the wide implementation of the results of scientific research and development in the field of creating modern intensive technologies that ensure the production of science-intensive high-tech products and the optimal use of finance, human and raw materials.
This problem can be solved in the coming years only with the help of highly qualified, competitive, receptive to new ideas and technologies specialists, who are already being trained by the Dagestan State Agricultural Academy.
