Crossed out cyclist sign. Road signs for cyclists: a matter of life or death

The snow has melted on the streets, which means that soon we will see the first fans of a healthy lifestyle after winter - cyclists. The statistics of traffic accidents in Russian cities says that it is cyclists who become victims of motorists. And quite often the cyclists themselves violate traffic rules and provoke accidents. Today we will look at the rules for driving the most environmentally friendly mode of transport and the sign, on a bicycle. Even children who have saddled a two-wheeled horse for the first time should know it.

traffic rules and cyclists

Most lovers of two-wheeled transport do not consider themselves participants at all, and therefore do not comply with the well-known traffic rules. And this is a fundamentally wrong approach to your own safety and the lives of other people. According to the wording, a bicycle is understood as a vehicle that has at least two wheels and is driven by the muscular strength of the person driving this vehicle. Thus, it becomes clear that the cyclist is the same participant in the movement and must comply with all established rules.

Keep in mind that some of the traffic rules are only suitable for motorists: these paragraphs usually refer to a mechanical vehicle (which a bicycle is not). But when the word "vehicle" or "driver" is mentioned, then be sure that these points of the rules are most relevant to you.

Bicyclists should pay special attention to road signs. They can warn them of danger in time and save lives. The most important is the traffic sign "Traffic on bicycles is prohibited". It categorically prohibits the movement of two-wheeled vehicles in the direction of its installation.

A sign prohibiting cycling is as follows - a large white circle edged with a wide red stripe, in the center of which a bicycle is depicted in black paint. Keep in mind that if you cannot enter, for example, an intersection because of a prohibition sign, then on the other hand you will have such an opportunity. A sign prohibiting cycling does not affect the road that is not limited by the sign's area of effect.

Road signs for cyclists: cycle path

Most main sign for cyclists we have already covered. It is prohibitive. But there is another sign: it indicates a cycle path, along which drivers of two-wheeled vehicles can move freely.

Usually given sign is placed at the beginning of a specially allocated asphalt lane; quite often, markings are applied to it in the form of a bicycle image. But keep in mind that marking without a special sign is not a bike lane. Such a lane refers to the main roadbed, on which motorists can also move.

The sign itself looks like a blue circle with a white bicycle in the background. According to the SDA, drivers of two-wheeled vehicles must first of all move along bicycle paths, and only if there are none, along roadsides or roadways.

warning sign

In places where motorists can cross with cyclists, a different sign is put up. Of course, it is more intended for drivers of four-wheelers. Vehicle. But cyclists should also know this sign well.

It looks like a triangle edged with a red stripe. In the center of the badge there is a drawing of a black bicycle. Most often, this sign is placed in places where the bike path goes to the roadway.

Are bicycle markings required?

The traffic rules do not oblige cyclists to equip their vehicle with any signs. The main thing is to make sure that the bike is in good condition. Therefore, before leaving the city, check the signals, brakes and steering system.

If you often move on the roadway in the evening, for safety reasons, install reflective signs in front and behind the bike. So you will be sure that motorists and pedestrians will notice you.

Cycling through the spring city is a great way to cheer yourself up and get your body in great physical shape. Therefore, get out your two-wheeled horses, refresh your memory of traffic rules and boldly go towards the sun and adventure.

The use of environmentally friendly and less aggressive vehicles for transportation leads to a widespread increase in the number of cyclists on the streets of cities and towns. However, cycling continues to be traumatic, especially in the conditions of heavy traffic in the metropolis. To designate a special section of the roadway intended for this transport, use a special sign " Bicycle lane».

Bike lane definition and views

Bicycle lanes can be one-sided and two-way traffic

It is an independent element of the road infrastructure and is intended exclusively for the movement of two-wheeled vehicles (bicycles, scooters). Organization practice traffic provides three main ways of arrangement:

  • Distancing from the roadway with a lawn, a fence, a metal fence. As a rule, a part of the sidewalk is allocated for such a path, separating it from the pedestrian zone with a solid line and highlighting it with conventional signs.
  • The right edge of the carriageway is separated from the rest of the roadway by a continuous marking line, destining it for cycling.
  • Part of the street or square is closed to vehicles, allowing walking or cycling.

The intensity of the two-wheeled traffic led to the selection of two more types of tracks:

  • one-way traffic - bicycles and scooters travel in one direction, usually in the same direction as cars on the road;
  • with two-way traffic - the track is wider, divided into two lanes by markings, the direction of movement along them is indicated by directional arrows.

What does the sign look like and what does it mean?

Sign 4.4.1 visually looks like a white silhouette of a bicycle on a blue round background. His presence is a signal to drivers and pedestrians:

  • drivers of vehicles do not have the right to place a car on these sections of the road, using them as a parking lane, traffic is prohibited;
  • Pedestrians may only move on cycle paths if there is no pavement, and they must not create obstacles in the path of cyclists.

The sign indicates the intersection with the bike path

The sign "Bicycle path" is often confused with a sign warning about crossing with such a section of the road - 1.24. Each of them has its own functionality and its own rules for prioritizing:

  • If the driver, when turning to the right, must cross the cycling zone indicated by the sign 4.4.1, then he must give way to vehicles moving in this lane.
  • If, while driving along the street, the driver approaches the intersection marked with the sign 1.24, then the advantage is with the car.

Although in practice, usually in any case, a motorist lets cyclists pass, who do not always know the rules and do not consider themselves obliged to know them.

Where can you find him

A special sign is placed in the following places:

  • To the right of the path, if it is separated from the carriageway by a curb, lawn or fence.
  • Directly above the track, if it is a dedicated strip of the right edge of the carriageway. Additionally, table 8.14 "Lane" is placed under it.
  • At a standard distance from the beginning of a section of a street or square that is closed to traffic.

Sign 8.14. serves to determine the direction of movement

SDA

Unfortunately, only a small part of cyclists know traffic rules.

Riding a bike involves following the rules of the road. This allows to reduce injuries, avoid accidents, save life and health. Everyone is obliged to know and comply with these requirements, including young cyclists who are allowed to ride independently on the streets of the city only within specially designated areas.

Sign coverage area

The end of the cycle path can be marked special sign 4.4.2 or nearest intersection

The presence of sign 4.4.1 instructs all road users to use the appropriate section of the road for its intended purpose: pedestrians do not walk, cars do not drive. The zone of its action is limited to the nearest intersections, i.e. if there is no this sign behind the intersection, then this indicates that a separate zone for cyclists has ended.

To limit the effect of this sign, a special sign 4.4.2, indicating the end of the cycle path, can also be used. It looks the same with a red slash across the diagonal. The black silhouette of a bicycle on a white background, edged with a red stripe, categorically prohibits riding a two-wheeled friend. In the zone of action of this sign, you must dismount and roll the vehicle behind the wheel.

If the cycle path is a dedicated section of the carriageway marked in the form of a bicycle, but the sign 4.4.1 is not installed, then both owners of two-wheeled vehicles and ordinary cars can move along this lane.

Speed and order of movement

In Russia, special traffic lights for cyclists are rare.

In large cities with heavy traffic for cyclists, special traffic lights are provided, indicated either by a special table - a black silhouette on a white background, or by a separate traffic light window in which the silhouette of a bicycle of a certain color lights up.

Like any driver, the cyclist is obliged to warn in advance about the beginning of the maneuver:

  • a turn to the side is warned by a raised corresponding arm bent at the elbow;
  • braking is signaled by any hand raised up.

When driving on a dedicated section of the carriageway, you should pay attention to the signs near the intersection of streets:

  • if 4.4.1 is displayed, then you can continue driving straight, making sure that the cars turning right let the bike pass;
  • if 1.24 is set, then the cyclist must slow down and let the car pass.

The speed limit is the same for all types of transport: within the city no faster than 60 km/h, in courtyards - 20 km/h.

In the absence of a dedicated lane for traffic, a cyclist can move:

  • along the roadside - as part of a convoy or when transporting bulky cargo on the trunk;
  • on the footpath - with a child under 7 years old.

Children under 14 years of age are not allowed to ride a bicycle on their own outside special sections of the road.

Penalties for breaking the rules

Entering the bike path by car, using it as a parking lot or a pick-up / drop-off zone is punishable in the same way - a fine:

  • two thousand rubles - movement along the path;
  • 2.5 thousand rubles (for Moscow and St. Petersburg) - using it as a parking space.

If a pedestrian, in the presence of a sidewalk, walks through a special area for bicycles and scooters, then the fine is slightly less - from 500 to 1000 rubles, taking into account the severity of the interference created. If the driver did not let the priority cyclist pass, then he will be fined in the amount of one and a half thousand rubles.

Since a cyclist or scooter is an equal participant in the movement, he can also be fined for non-compliance with the rules:

  • violation of traffic rules - 800 rubles;
  • driving while intoxicated - from one to one and a half thousand rubles.

The spread of two-wheeled vehicles was the reason for the allocation of separate sections on the road. Their goal is to prevent the occurrence of emergencies, especially in conditions of heavy traffic. Bicycle paths marked with a special sign can only be used by bicycle or scooter. For other modes of transport and pedestrians, their own zones are provided.

The growing trend towards healthy lifestyle life forces car drivers to change to a two-wheeled vehicle - a bicycle. The increase in the number of this type of transport leads to the creation or allocation of part of the highway for bicycle lanes. However, so that four-wheeled counterparts do not crowd two-wheeled ones, there is a sign for a bicycle path in front of the tape for the movement of the latter. It also has the right to move mopeds and scooters.

A cycle path is represented as an independent road or a part of a motorway allocated for the traffic of bicycles, scooters and mopeds. It is forbidden to stay on a specially allocated lane for cars, horse-drawn vehicles and pedestrians. The latter can pass along it in the absence of a sidewalk, curb or pedestrian sections.

Bicycle street sign presented in the form blue circle with a picture of a bicycle white color. This road attribute belongs to the category.

International agreements on street traffic define a cycle path as a separate road or part of it allocated for cyclists. Such zones are marked with an appropriate road sign and are structurally separated from the carriageway of the highway.

Such areas are separated from the carriageway by a dividing strip, a piece of land with a grass cover, side stones or slabs. Many European cities can boast of such lanes, which form a whole transport network. The Russian regions represent only separate areas for two-wheeled riders, not to mention the lack of a transport network.

The presence of a cycle path indicates that cyclists should only ride on it. Departure to the carriageway is considered by the traffic rules as a violation of the traffic regulations.

The organization of the traffic of rovers-cyclists comes down to several ways.

Two-wheeled vehicles move:

  • along the lane marked on the sidewalk;
  • a separate road that adjoins a sidewalk or carriageway;
  • dedicated area, segregated natural objects, side stones.

The last zone can be located on a road with one-way traffic on both sides of it. A two-way highway may place only one lane for rovers on the surface, on the side where the width of the road allows. Often, such plots are arranged from the side of the predominant location of administrative institutions of local importance, shops, and utility facilities.

Tracks for two-wheeled vehicles are various kinds. There are - with a one-way direction, which border the highway on both sides. The Nordic countries have a similar whole network, which provides for some elevation of the cycle path above the level of the carriageway. American bikers use single-level trails, however, they are removed from motor vehicle surfaces by a parking or buffer lane.

Two-way traffic usually occurs in a lane along a street or pavement. Big cities they cannot allocate enough space to the riders mentioned, more often the tapes are located in the suburbs, towns.

The joint traffic of pedestrians and bicycle bikers is not excluded:

  1. If the highway has several secondary street connections on one side. The lanes are on the opposite side, which ensures the safety of cyclists from cars entering the highway.
  2. Along the streets, where on the one hand administrative bodies of local importance, shops, medical institutions are located. Cyclists do not have to cross the street many times in the right direction.
  3. The best arrangement of lanes would be a one-way highway, where you can border it on both sides and organize the movement of bikes along the street. However, they may be endangered by vehicles leaving the yards or adjacent streets, the drivers of which will not expect the appearance of two-wheelers.
  4. Separated from the highway, a two-way bike path is a great alternative to the above. Of course, it can be called a full-fledged road, even with a sidewalk adjoining it. But even if it doesn't exist, the lane is shared between pedestrians and rovers.

Typically, such lanes are located far from streets with heavy traffic, with sidewalks passing nearby, which does not prevent either pedestrians or drivers of two-wheeled vehicles from moving in both directions.

Special paths are either adjacent to the carriageway or arranged separately. The first case is the streets of cities with heavy traffic, the other is the sections between the areas of large settlements, tourist routes.

The advantages of such arrangements are:

  • isolation from pedestrians, vehicles;
  • ease of movement;
  • the possibility of a leisurely trip, especially at an elderly age.

However, there is no positive without negative.

This is also seen here:

  • the width of the coating is not more than 1 meter;
  • it is difficult to overtake the vehicle in front;
  • there are difficulties when traveling;
  • low speed compared to driving on the highway.

Of course, the last minus is easily overcome, one has only to go out onto the road. But if there are road signs with a bicycle path, it is forbidden to enter the roadway. The long length of the strip even smoothes out the speed barrier, but after driving a couple of hundred meters along it, you have to ride the bike to the next specialized section.

A well-designed bike path is distinguished by a high-quality surface, located slightly above the tier of the carriageway. In front of the described zone there are road signs for cyclists, special markings that separate oncoming traffic. Denoted by a stencil of a white bicycle with opposite stripes on a blue circle.

Paths with combined walking and cycling are common in Scandinavian countries. Of course, it’s impossible to call them cycling ones, these are not sections isolated from walking people.

Rules and GOSTs Russian Federation are adapting to the innovation, which should be reflected in the near future by the appearance of such an infrastructure - combined tapes with dividing traffic for participants in the traffic process. Fairly wide pavement passages with little rover traffic are suitable for this.

These attributes should make life easier for cyclists, they do not have to fall under the wheels of speeding cars. Perhaps this is a step forward, but even these sections suggest the advantage of a person on his feet, and not in the saddle of a velobike. The desire of the latter will break out into the operational space of the highway.

Bicycle trails are good on tourist routes that run in:

  • sea or river embankments;
  • car-free streets;
  • wide sidewalks;
  • city parks;
  • narrow streets, bridges, crossings.

Such places allow drivers of two-wheeled vehicles to avoid high-speed transport, take an evening walk, and breathe fresh air.

Of course, not everyone will be satisfied with such conditions, there are some disadvantages here:

  • scurrying pedestrians;
  • lack of proper speed when traveling;
  • often narrow bands;
  • Difficulty when passing with an oncoming bike.

Yes, and walking people often associate such roads with a pedestrian sidewalk, not taking into account that a bicycle is the same transport, albeit a slow one. The blue circle with the designation is more likely to be taken as a decoration of the road than its warning attribute. It is pleasant to walk along such an area, and not turn your head so as not to get hit by a wheel.

Blue circle with bike logo set:

  1. On the right side of the cycling area or belt, which is separated from the roadway by side stones or grassy lawn.
  2. With the “Lane” sign, they are installed above the cycle track, showing the lane covered by the sign or traffic light.

The initial form is set before the beginning of the cycling track, the second one - after each junction of the secondary road with the cycling section.

The stencil form obliges drivers of cars, other motor vehicles and pedestrians not to enter the special lane. The zone of action of the sign ends at the nearest intersection, the intersection of a secondary street. The absence of a re-established form indicates the end of a separate section for two-wheeled vehicles.

The action of the street sign is also limited by another form - a similar blue circle with a red diagonal stripe. He warns of the prohibition of further movement on a bicycle while in the saddle. The biker should leave the saddle and roll the two-wheeled vehicle behind the wheel.

The presence of a clear cycle path, but without the installation of a prescriptive sign, gives the right to be on it at the same time to cyclists and drivers of motor vehicles.

Megacities set aside specially equipped zones and road sections for two-wheelers. The latter are indicated by special stencils in the form of a black silhouette of a bicycle on a white base or a separate eye of a traffic light. Its luminous windows with a similar image indicate the permissive movement of the rover.

On the roadway, cyclists are equated to full-fledged participants in the process, which imposes certain obligations on them.

This is manifested in their signaling of the upcoming maneuver:

  1. Turning to the side is preceded by bending the corresponding arm at the elbow.
  2. The stop is preceded by any hand raised vertically.

Of course, traffic rules also provide for the advantage of the rover over cars when it is on its own track.

However, it should be given Special attention areas near the junction of secondary streets:

  1. The presence of a sign in the form of a blue circle provides the right to move forward, in the absence of danger of the car in front turning right.
  2. The presence of a white triangular shape with a red border - "Intersection with a bicycle path" indicates the passage of a car, but not a bicycle.

The absence of any special pointers does not affect bicycle traffic.

They are entitled to:

  • roadside, moving in a column or transporting bulky cargo on the trunk at the back;
  • a pedestrian area if there is a child under 7 years old.

Independent movement of adolescents under 14 years of age is allowed only in specially designated areas. The speed of movement of two-wheeled vehicles in the adjacent territories, as well as cars, should not exceed 20 km / h, within the city limits - 60.

Penalties for breaking the rules

Leaving the bicycle sections of cars is punished in the same way as the movement of cyclists on the carriageway in the presence of separate zones. Parking, parking or disembarkation of passengers in the mentioned territory is considered to be an entrance.

Ignoring the rules threatens with such penalties:

  • 2,000 rubles for finding a car in a bicycle zone;
  • 2 500 - use of the tape as a parking space.

Pedestrians are also not allowed to walk around the isolated area if there is a sidewalk. He will be punished, starting from 500 rubles. If a person has created significant interference with the movement of a scooter or moped, the fine is doubled.

The driver of the car, for interfering with the cyclist, will have to face a penalty equal to 1,500 rubles.

Violators cyclists do not pass such punishment:

I would like to warn that fines of the indicated sizes are levied in cities of regional subordination, megacities of federal significance are distinguished by higher amounts.

In this part, we briefly mention general rules for cyclists.

traffic lights

6.5. If the traffic light signal is made in the form of a silhouette of a pedestrian (bicycle), then its effect applies only to pedestrians (cyclists). Wherein green signal allows, and red prohibits the movement of pedestrians (cyclists).

To regulate the movement of cyclists, a traffic light with round signals of reduced size, supplemented by a white rectangular plate measuring 200 x 200 mm with the image of a black bicycle, can also be used.

Maneuvering signals

8.1. Before starting to move, changing lanes, turning (turning) and stopping, the driver is obliged to give signals with light indicators for the direction of the corresponding direction, and if they are missing or defective - by hand. When performing a maneuver, there should not be a danger to traffic, as well as obstacles to other road users.

The signal of a left turn (reversal) corresponds to an elongated to the side left hand or right, extended to the side and bent at the elbow at a right angle upwards. The right turn signal corresponds to the extended to the side right hand or left, extended to the side and bent at the elbow at a right angle upwards. The brake signal is given by the left or right hand raised up.

8.2. Signaling by direction indicators or by hand must be done in advance of the start of the maneuver and stop immediately after its completion (hand signaling can be completed immediately before the maneuver is performed). At the same time, the signal should not mislead other road users.

Light fixtures

19.1. At night and in conditions insufficient visibility Regardless of the lighting of the road, as well as in tunnels on a moving vehicle, the following lighting devices must be switched on:

  • on all motor vehicles and mopeds - driving or dipped beam headlights, on bicycles - headlights or lanterns, on horse-drawn carts - lanterns (if any);
  • on trailers and towed motor vehicles - clearance lights.

What is the maximum speed of the cyclist?

The maximum speed of a cyclist is limited to the same extent as for other vehicles. In the city it is forbidden to exceed the established limit of 60 km/h, in yards and residential areas the speed limit is not more than 20 km/h. AT without fail cyclists are required to obey the speed limit signs.

In addition, a cyclist can reach speeds above 25 km / h only with the help of own forces, since according to the definition of “Bicycle”, the speed developed by a bicycle electric motor cannot exceed 25 km/h.

Location of cyclists on the road

The requirements for the movement of cyclists are set out in a special chapter of the Rules of the Road - “24. Additional requirements for the movement of cyclists and moped drivers”. This part requires special attention.

For cyclists over the age of 14

24.1. The movement of cyclists over the age of 14 must be carried out on a bicycle, cycle path or lane for cyclists.

Important. This paragraph establishes the obligation for cyclists over 14 years of age to move along a specially allocated section of the road, if available. Movement on other elements of the road is prohibited. All subsequent paragraphs establishing a different location of cyclists on the road are sequence of exceptions from the first paragraph.

Driving on the right side of the road

First exception – cyclists are allowed on the right side of the road- in the following cases:

  • there are no bicycle and bicycle paths, a lane for cyclists or there is no possibility to move along them;
  • the overall width of the bicycle, trailer to it or the transported cargo exceeds 1 m;
  • the movement of cyclists is carried out in columns;

And so, if there is no special dedicated section of the road for the movement of bicycles, the cyclist must first of all move along the right edge of the carriageway.

Roadside driving

The second exception is roadside traffic:

  • in the event that there are no bicycle and bicycle paths, a lane for cyclists, or there is no possibility to move along them or along the right edge of the carriageway;

Driving on a sidewalk or footpath

The third exception is on a sidewalk or footpath:

  • there are no bicycle and bicycle paths, a lane for cyclists or there is no possibility to move along them, as well as on the right edge of the carriageway or roadside;
  • the cyclist accompanies a cyclist under the age of 7 or transports a child under the age of 7 in an extra seat, in a bicycle carriage or in a trailer designed to be used with a bicycle.

As you can see, driving on a sidewalk or footpath is an extreme case for cyclists. Be careful to follow this sequence when defining a road element for cycling.

For cyclists aged 7 to 14

24.3. The movement of cyclists aged 7 to 14 years should be carried out only on sidewalks, pedestrian, bicycle and bicycle paths, as well as within pedestrian zones.

Cyclists under the age of 14 are prohibited from driving on the roadway and on the side of the road.

For cyclists under the age of 7

24.4. The movement of cyclists under the age of 7 years should be carried out only on sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths (on the side for pedestrian traffic), as well as within pedestrian zones.

Cyclists under the age of 7 must ride on the section of the road designated for pedestrian traffic.

Rules for the movement of cyclists on the roadway

24.5. When cyclists move along the right edge of the carriageway in cases provided for by these Rules, cyclists should only move in one line.

It is allowed to move a column of cyclists in two rows in case if the overall width of the bicycles does not exceed 0.75 m.

The column of cyclists must be divided into groups of 10 cyclists in the case of a single-row movement or into groups of 10 pairs in the case of a two-row movement. For easier overtaking distance between groups should be 80 - 100 m.

Rules for the movement of cyclists on the sidewalk and pedestrian zones

24.6. If the movement of a cyclist on a sidewalk, footpath, curb or within pedestrian zones endangers or interferes with the movement of other persons, the cyclist must dismount and be guided by the requirements provided for in these Rules for the movement of pedestrians.

On the pavement, pedestrians and other persons have full priority over cyclists. This also applies to crossing roads and crossing exits from adjacent areas when a cyclist is moving on a sidewalk.

Cyclists are not allowed

  • ride a bicycle, moped without holding the steering wheel with at least one hand;
  • transport cargo that protrudes more than 0.5 m in length or width beyond the dimensions, or cargo that interferes with control;
  • to transport passengers, if this is not provided for by the design of the vehicle;
  • transport children under 7 years of age in the absence of specially equipped places for them;
  • turn left or turn around on roads with tram traffic and on roads with more than one lane for traffic in this direction;
  • drive on the road without a fastened motorcycle helmet (for moped drivers).
  • cross the road at pedestrian crossings.

Let us highlight the prohibition of turning left on roads with more than one lane in a given direction and the location of the cyclist before the turn.

Before making a maneuver, a cyclist who is a driver must take.

8.5. Before turning right, left or U-turn, the driver is obliged to take the appropriate extreme position in advance on the carriageway intended for movement in this direction ...

Another important point Cyclists are not allowed to cross the road at pedestrian crossings. In case of violation of this requirement the cyclist has no advantage in traffic.

It is forbidden to tow bicycles and bicycles.

24.9. It is prohibited to tow bicycles and mopeds, as well as towing by bicycles and mopeds, except for towing a trailer intended for use with a bicycle or moped.

Motorway traffic is prohibited.

16.1. On motorways it is prohibited:

  • movement of pedestrians, pets, bicycles, mopeds, tractors and self-propelled machines, other vehicles, the speed of which according to technical specification or as less than 40 km/h;

Privileges for cyclists

April 15, 2015 in the Rules of the Road, allowing the movement of bicycles in a dedicated lane for shuttle vehicles.

18.2. On roads with a lane for route vehicles, marked with signs 5.11, 5.13.1, 5.13.2, 5.14, it is prohibited to move and stop other vehicles (with the exception of school buses and vehicles used as a passenger taxi, as well as cyclists - if the lane for fixed-route vehicles is located on the right) on this lane.

This right can only be exercised if there are no cycle and cycle paths or lanes for cyclists.

Will they lose their driver's license if they are caught drunk on a bicycle?

Many cyclists mistakenly believe that cycling is not responsible. Despite the fact that the regulatory authorities pay minimal attention to cyclists, the law still provides for liability for driving while intoxicated. At the beginning of the article, we noted that a bicycle is a vehicle, and a cyclist is a driver.

The rules expressly prohibit driving any vehicle while intoxicated.

2.7. The driver is prohibited from:

  • drive a vehicle while intoxicated (alcoholic, narcotic or otherwise), under the influence of medicines, impairing reaction and attention, in a painful or tired state, endangering traffic safety;

Can you lose your driving license if you are caught drunk on a bicycle? Let us turn to the article of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation, according to which drunk drivers are punished:

1. Driving a vehicle by a driver who is in a state of intoxication, if such actions do not contain a criminally punishable act, -

entails the imposition administrative fine in the amount of thirty thousand rubles with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of one and a half to two years.

At first glance it seems that the article is entirely suitable for cyclists and employees may try to draw on it. However, cycling does not require a special right to drive and obtaining, as well as deprivation of such a right, is in no way connected with driving a bicycle. For cyclists, the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation provides special article defining responsibility.

Please note that if you drive a scooter or moped while intoxicated, the application of this article is completely legal. The only exception for this article is cyclists.

Fines for cyclists

Article 12.29. Violation of the Rules of the Road by a pedestrian or other person participating in the process of road traffic

2. Violation of the Rules of the Road by a person driving a bicycle, or by a carrier or other person directly involved in the process of road traffic (with the exception of the persons specified in Part 1 of this Article, as well as the driver of a vehicle), -
eight hundred rubles.

3. Violation of the Rules of the road by persons specified in part 2 of this article, committed in a state of intoxication, -
entails the imposition of an administrative fine in the amount of from one thousand to one thousand five hundred rubles.

Violations of the Rules of the Road discussed in this article for a cyclist will cost 800 rubles, and in case of a violation while intoxicated, from 1000 to 1500 rubles.

This concludes the article. Thank you for your interest.
But do not rush to leave! Below you will find specially selected for you interesting materials our partners and links to other articles on our site.

Good afternoon, dear reader.

Once over central part Russia is set enough warm weather, the number of two-wheeled vehicles is increasing significantly. Hundreds of drivers of bicycles and mopeds appear on the city streets and pour into the dense traffic flow.

In my experience, at least 80 percent of drivers of non-licensed two-wheelers have absolutely no idea about and hit the road completely unprepared.

Traffic rules for bicycles

Consider traffic rules for bicycles. With a cursory review of the text, it may seem that traffic rules for cyclists are concentrated exclusively in section 24 of the rules "". However, in reality, things are completely different.

In the rules of the road, there are several types of road users to which a particular paragraph of the rules may apply. Among others, this motor vehicle, vehicle and driver. An unpowered bicycle is not a motorized vehicle, but all the points relating to drivers and vehicles apply to cyclists as well.

Attention! Rules relating to pedestrians do not apply to cyclists. They apply only to persons riding a bicycle.

In this way most of traffic rules apply to cyclists, including the special 24 section. I will not disassemble and explain absolutely everything for cyclists in this article. The interested reader can do it himself. I will focus only on those points of the rules that are most often violated by cyclists.

Technical condition of the bike

2.3. The driver of the vehicle must:

2.3.1. Before leaving, check and ensure proper operation on the way. technical condition vehicle in accordance with the Basic Provisions for the admission of vehicles to operation and the duties of officials to ensure road safety (hereinafter - the Basic Provisions).

Do not drive in the event of a malfunction working brake system, steering, a coupling device (as part of a road train), unlit (absent) headlights and tail lights at night or in conditions of insufficient visibility, an inactive windshield wiper on the driver's side during rain or snowfall.

So the rules of the road ban cycling, which has malfunctions of the service brake system or steering. And we are talking not just about riding a bike with broken handlebars or broken brakes.

There are "passionate" cyclists who try to reduce the weight of the bike in all sorts of ways. Including in the course is the removal of brakes and other structural elements. Punishment for such a violation is provided for by the Code of administrative offenses and will be discussed at the end of the article.

Alcoholic intoxication of a cyclist

Movement of cyclists over 14 years of age possibly in descending order:

  1. On cycle paths, cycle paths or cycle lanes.
  2. On the right side of the road.
  3. Along the side.
  4. On a sidewalk or footpath.

Please note that each subsequent item in the above list implies that there are no previous items.

For example, you can drive along the side of the road (paragraph 3) only if there is no cycle path or lane, and also if there is no possibility of moving along the right edge of the carriageway.

In addition, there are a few exceptions:

  • You can ride on the carriageway if the width of the bike or load exceeds 1 meter.
  • You can drive on the carriageway if the movement is carried out in columns.
  • You can ride on the sidewalk or footpath if you are accompanying a cyclist under the age of 14 or carrying a child under the age of 7.

When driving on the roadway, the following points of the rules should be borne in mind:

24.5. When cyclists move along the right edge of the carriageway in the cases provided for by these Rules, cyclists must move only in one row.

A column of cyclists is allowed to move in two rows if the overall width of the bicycles does not exceed 0.75 m.

The column of cyclists must be divided into groups of 10 cyclists in the case of a single-lane movement or into groups of 10 pairs in the case of a two-lane movement. To facilitate overtaking, the distance between groups should be 80 - 100 m.

Additional Information:

Movement of cyclists aged 7 to 14 possible on sidewalks, pedestrian, bicycle and bicycle paths, as well as within pedestrian zones.

Please note that "school cyclists" are not allowed to ride on cycle lanes, carriageways and shoulders.

Movement of cyclists under the age of 7 possible only together with pedestrians (on sidewalks, pedestrian and bicycle paths, pedestrian zones).

Thus, at present, the movement of cyclists is possible, including on sidewalks and roadsides. In this case, the rules of the cyclist impose additional requirements:

24.6. If the movement of a cyclist on a sidewalk, footpath, curb or within pedestrian zones endangers or interferes with the movement of other persons, the cyclist must dismount and be guided by the requirements provided for in these Rules for the movement of pedestrians.

I note that when driving on sidewalks, footpaths, roadsides and pedestrian zones, a cyclist should not interfere with the movement of other persons. If necessary, the cyclist must get off the bike and continue as a pedestrian.

Consider interesting example. Suppose a car (in some cases it is allowed by the rules) and a cyclist are driving on the sidewalk. If a collision (accident) occurs, then both road users will be to blame for it. If the cyclist walks along the sidewalk, then he will not be to blame for the accident (he will not pay for car repairs).

Thus, paragraph 24.6 emphasizes that in the case sidewalk accident one of his culprits in any case will be a cyclist.

Dedicated lanes for cyclists

In 2019, on the roads you can find dedicated lanes for cyclists, marked with special signs:

These lanes are restricted to bicycles and mopeds.

Dedicated lanes for public transport

In addition, in 2019, cyclists can also use dedicated lanes for public transport. Clause 18.2 of the Rules:

18.2. On roads with a lane for route vehicles, marked with signs 5.11.1, 5.13.1, 5.13.2, 5.14, the movement and stopping of other vehicles is prohibited (with the exception of school buses and vehicles used as a passenger taxi, as well as cyclists - if the lane for route vehicles is located on the right) on this lane.

Please note that a cyclist can enter a public transport lane only if this lane is marked with one of the signs listed above. In addition, there should not be additional conditions prohibiting entry to the specified lane.

For example, in some Russian cities the traffic is organized as follows. In fact, the road has a dedicated lane for route vehicles and all traffic participants understand this. However, from the point of view of traffic rules, the lane is not indicated by the signs listed above. Just at the entrance to it, a sign 3.1 "brick" is installed.

The requirements of this sign can be ignored only by public transport drivers. The rest of the vehicles, including cyclists, cannot pass under the "brick".

Cycling areas

On December 14, 2018, the concept of "Bicycle zone" appeared in the rules of the road. The following road signs are used to indicate the bike zone:

Not only cyclists, but also motor vehicles (cars) can move along the bicycle zone. In this case, the following rules must be observed:

  • Cyclists have priority over cars.
  • Cyclists can move along the entire passing side of the carriageway, and not just at the right edge.
  • Bicyclists are not prohibited from turning left and making U-turns on wide roads.
  • The speed limit is 20 km/h.
  • Pedestrians can cross the road anywhere, but they do not have an advantage.

More detailed information about bicycle zones is given in the following article:

Bicycle riders must yield to pedestrians at crossings

14.1. The driver of a vehicle approaching an unregulated pedestrian crossing must give way to pedestrians, crossing the road or entered the carriageway (tram tracks) to make the transition.

A bicycle, like any other vehicle, must slow down or stop before crossing to let pedestrians through.

Lights for bicycles

At night, the bicycle must have headlights or lights on, and during daylight hours, dipped headlights or daytime running lights:

19.1. At night and in conditions of insufficient visibility, regardless of road lighting, as well as in tunnels, a moving vehicle must turn on the following lighting devices:

on all motor vehicles and mopeds - high or low beam headlights, on bicycles - headlights or lanterns, on horse-drawn carts - lanterns (if any);

19.5. During daylight hours, all moving vehicles must turn on dipped beam headlights or daytime running lights to identify them.

So far, I have not met a single cyclist who uses low beam headlights or daytime running lights when driving during the day. In this regard, traffic police officers can impose a fine on almost any bicycle driver.

Age to ride a bike

Bicycling is allowed at any age. However, depending on the age, the rules for cycling differ (this was discussed above).

Movement on the carriageway of roads is possible only from from 14 years old.

Prohibitions for cyclists

24.8. Cyclists and moped drivers are prohibited from:

  • ride a bicycle, moped without holding the steering wheel with at least one hand;
  • transport cargo that protrudes more than 0.5 m in length or width beyond the dimensions, or cargo that interferes with control;
  • to transport passengers, if this is not provided for by the design of the vehicle;
  • transport children under 7 years of age in the absence of specially equipped places for them;
  • turn left or turn around on roads with tram traffic and on roads with more than one lane for traffic in this direction (except when turning left from the right lane is allowed, and with the exception of roads located in bicycle zones);
  • move on the road without a fastened motorcycle helmet (for moped drivers);
  • cross the road at pedestrian crossings.

24.9. It is prohibited to tow bicycles and mopeds, as well as towing by bicycles and mopeds, except for towing a trailer intended for use with a bicycle or moped.

From this list, the following points should be noted:

1. Bicycle riders are prohibited from turning left and turning around on roads with more than one lane in a given direction. Those. a left turn in the city is prohibited for a cyclist on almost all major streets.

Note. This requirement does not apply to cycle zones, as well as on roads where left turns are allowed from the rightmost lane.

In practice, we can offer the following way out of this situation. The cyclist leaves his vehicle and becomes a pedestrian. Then he crosses the intersection in the required direction on the pedestrian crossing. After that, he again sits on the bike and continues to move along the roadway or roadside.

So the fines for cyclists are currently nothing compared to (30,000 rubles for driving while intoxicated). In addition, the advantage of cyclists on the road is that they are rarely fined for violating traffic rules. And this, in turn, leads to the fact that most of the "two-wheeled" behave unpredictably on the road, provoking the emergence of dangerous situations.

On this consideration of the features it's finished. Once again I remind you that every cyclist needs to read at least once full version.

Well, in conclusion, I suggest you look short video, which clearly demonstrates what a violation of traffic rules for cyclists can lead to:

Good luck on the roads!

You cannot drive on the sidewalk if there is a roadway not occupied by parked cars.

You can ride on the sidewalk when transporting or accompanying a child. If you are traveling alone, you should drive on the road.

It is possible to drive on the lane allocated for public transport.

Only if there are no signs prohibiting movement on it above the selected lane. For example, in our city, a “No Entry” sign (brick) has been additionally installed above the dedicated lanes, and in this case it is impossible to drive along such lanes.

Good luck on the roads!

Ivan, You're not right.

The Code of Administrative Offenses has its own definition of a vehicle, it is given in a note to.

Note. In this article, a vehicle should be understood as a motor vehicle with an internal combustion engine capacity of more than 50 cubic centimeters or a maximum electric motor power of more than 4 kilowatts and a maximum design speed of more than 50 kilometers per hour, as well as trailers to it, subject to state registration, and in other articles of this chapter also tractors, self-propelled road-building and other self-propelled machines, vehicles, for which, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation on road safety, a special right is granted.

In the Code of Administrative Offenses, bicycles are not considered vehicles.

Regarding connections. Attach a diagram of the section of road you are interested in. Let's see how we can get there. Unfortunately, you can ride a bike far from everywhere and not always.

Good luck on the roads!

I repeat, it is written clearly "Please note that each subsequent item in the above list implies that the previous items are missing." There is NO choice.

And the tragedy is that I do not have the right, in PRINCIPLE, to move along the ROAD and ALL pedestrian zones.

Well, the argument "violate as you like, until you are fined" looks quite interesting on this forum))).

remember once and for all rule point 1.5

and always move in such a way that it is done

by car by veles

Let me give you just a few examples, and then you yourself BUT ONLY A QUOTE FROM SDA will try to refute them. They will shoot me down in a few minutes.

Maxim, may have already mentioned, but I will just say this. As practice shows, even if this was a direct quote from the rules, for some reason I am more than sure that at least half of the pedestrians would still be proudly laid on it from a high bell tower. Because until now, a considerable number of pedestrians still have the habit of crossing the roadway in the wrong place, for example, although I myself sometimes do this. Well, or to red (I don’t turn to red myself, except if I only see that there is not a single car / motorcycle within a radius of 100 meters). But also for the sake of truth I will say that both I and most of those who do began to at least look around more carefully before doing it in a dive so that there was a safe window for everyone at that moment to cross. Therefore, that this quote is, that it is not, it would hardly change anything cardinally.

torture, there is no federal law against storing a bicycle in an apartment. I haven't heard of such a regional law either.

Only if in your house the owners of the apartments decided at a general meeting that the storage of bicycles in a residential building is prohibited and, for example, allocated a separate non-residential premises for this. Although this is an extremely rare case.

Good luck on the roads!

And if another gets caught, he will knock him down and knock out a fine. So save up cash.

I'll tell you more, even when riding on the sidewalk, if a cyclist gets into an accident with a car leaving (in) the yard, the fault will be either mutual or on the cyclist - a violation of clause 24.6 (depends on the speed of the bike, view, etc. - the court decides) , there were precedents.

Conclusion, as we wrote earlier, EVERYWHERE you need to drive observing clause 1.5 "Road users must act in such a way as not to endanger traffic and not cause harm ..."

And in particular, when crossing the road at a reasonable speed next to a pedestrian crossing, I must make sure that there is cover for pedestrians and whether or not a turning car passes me.

And it is also desirable that there are no complaints from the traffic police inspectors and vigilant citizens that I am violating traffic rules.

ps An exercise for lovers of "not riding, but fidgeting", sitting at a computer on a saddle chair, you do not just sit, but periodically, about once every 2 minutes, get up and make a circle around the room (for 2 minutes a cyclist when riding on the sidewalk at a speed of 10 km / h travels 330 meters (approximate distance between intersections).

This procedure will be especially useful for lawmakers who come up with laws for cyclists.

p.p.s. Previously, it was possible to ride a bicycle on a pedestrian crossing; now it’s another extreme - it’s impossible, but it was only necessary to limit the speed for ALL road users, incl. and for scooters and "roller skates", by the way, a walking pedestrian can GO at a speed of 16 km / h.

5.4.29. Signs 3.2 - 3.9, 3.32 and 3.33 are installed at each entrance to a section of road or territory where the movement of the corresponding types of vehicles is prohibited. Before side exits to the road, signs are used with one of the plates 8.3.1 - 8.3.3.

No additional information by this sign normative documents no.

If stick general principles installation of prohibition signs, they prohibit movement to their left. That is, if there is a sidewalk to the right of the sign, then you can drive along it.

Difficulty can arise if the sidewalk is adjacent to the roadway, and the poles are installed to the right of the sidewalk. In this case, the sign is located to the right of the entire road and an incomprehensible situation arises. If you are faced with a similar situation in practice, then it makes sense to write an appeal to the traffic police with a request to clarify the traffic order or change the traffic pattern on this section of the road.

Good luck on the roads!
