What is the best antivirus? Which antivirus is better to install

Absolutely all users, from computer gurus to beginners, know about such a terrible concept as “computer viruses”. Beginners are afraid computer viruses, because for them they are fraught with a lot of myths and unknown, and advanced users know the extent of the consequences of such an unpleasant event as a PC infection with viruses, and are afraid of its onset. In any case, both beginners and advanced users want to reliably secure their data and their computer - this is what an antivirus is for. Antivirus will protect your files on your computer: documents, photos, music, videos and other data, including passwords and other personal data. In this article, our experts will try to help you choose best antivirus 2013 for home computer.

Danger and types of viruses

To choose the best antivirus for yourself, you must understand that by the term "virus" we mean a complex of malicious files, programs and scripts that, one way or another, harm the computer. There are several types of computer viruses:

  • Worms

This type of virus does not pose any danger to the data, but at the same time “clogs” the computer by copying itself. As a result of this, the computer starts to work very slowly, in other words, it starts to “slow down”. It should be noted that even powerful computer can work very slowly: windows open for a long time, programs start after a long pause, video slows down during playback, etc.

  • Trojans

Trojans are one of the most dangerous species computer viruses. The danger of Trojans lies in the fact that they can steal data (most often passwords), change files, and delete them, disguising themselves as harmless and simple files.

  • Manipulators

Manipulator viruses, as a rule, do not harm user data, they the main objective turn the computer into a zombie so that it performs the desired action in certain time. In the vast majority of cases this species viruses are distributed by hackers to use zombie computers to attack websites.

  • Blockers

Blockers - a type of virus that blocks the entrance to the operating system, requiring the user to transfer a certain amount under various pretexts Money to unlock.

The effectiveness of antiviruses

It should be said right away that there is no perfect antivirus. Yes, antiviruses protect your computer, but no antivirus will protect your computer 100%. Why? The fact is that the essence of the work of the antivirus lies in its algorithms, thanks to which the presence of viruses in the computer is recognized. Viruses are detected by their activity or by certain actions. When the antivirus knows the virus and its features, then, when it enters the computer, the antivirus notices it and informs the user about the danger. This is what concerns well-known antiviruses, but there are also new viruses that are not yet known to antivirus developers and are not included in antivirus databases. This situation is well thought out. To do this, antivirus algorithms monitor the activity of files and applications and, if they are suspicious, inform the user by offering a specific list of actions. All this is good, but there are viruses that the antivirus may not notice, these are, as a rule, new viruses or updated old ones. There are other reasons for skipping viruses by antivirus, but we will probably not touch on them.

Protecting your computer on the Internet

Modern antivirus programs include not only the ability to detect and remove viruses, but also the ability to protect your computer from various undesirable consequences: hacker attack, intrusive advertising on sites, spam, etc. Thus, the antivirus includes a firewall, which, probably, most of you have heard of. If earlier antivirus and firewall were different programs, but now, as a rule, the best and most advanced versions of antiviruses include comprehensive protection, that is, antivirus + firewall.

How to choose the best antivirus

The best antivirus for your own computer should initially include basic functions and have features that we will list below:

  • Antivirus scanner

Scanner function scans hard drive and RAM to search for viruses in them. It is very good if the scanner periodically checks the changed and added files in automatic mode, for the so-called passive security.

  • Antivirus Monitor

This function of the antivirus continuously monitors the activities of your computer, that is, it monitors all events that occur on the computer, preventing viruses from leaking into the computer.

  • Application Control

Quite often, viruses penetrate programs or are pseudo-programs, which is why the program control function was created. If there are any suspicious actions of applications, this control immediately informs the user about it and determines the type of threat.

  • Network Control and Web Anti-Virus

Another function of the antivirus that is necessary in our opinion is to control local network and Internet traffic. Thus, you will be protected from computer attacks from the local network and the Internet, as well as from negative consequences malicious codes and infected sites.

  • Possibility of flexible settings

The more settings an antivirus has, the better. Thanks to this, you can choose the level of control of a particular antivirus function: low, medium or high, or completely disable unnecessary functions in order to remove unnecessary load on your computer's resources. In addition, you can create your own rules for searching and detecting viruses, as well as actions taken by the antivirus when detecting virus activity on your computer.

  • Updating anti-virus databases

Anti-virus databases are the so-called file cabinet of viruses and a repository of algorithms for their detection and neutralization. For reliable protection computer anti-virus databases must be constantly updated and up-to-date, due to which, when a new virus appears on the network, the developers will create a neutralization algorithm and add it to the anti-virus database. By frequently updating your anti-virus databases, your anti-virus will have the latest algorithms for neutralizing new or updated viruses.

  • Antivirus Self-Defense

An antivirus should ensure not only the security of the computer, but also its own security. That is, the antivirus must have self-defense, thanks to which viruses will not be able to turn it off, neutralize or block the launch. This is another reason why the antivirus may not detect or remove the virus.

  • Rational resource consumption in passive mode

Well, the last important factor when choosing an antivirus, it is necessary to analyze the consumption of computer resources by it. Despite the fact that modern antiviruses use computer resources sparingly when working in passive mode, however, some unsuccessful versions of antiviruses can have this problem, so you need to pay attention to it. It should be noted that it is necessary to distinguish between the passive mode of operation of the antivirus and the active one. The passive mode is when the antivirus is minimized to tray and monitors the operation of the computer, and the active mode is when you independently launched a computer scan for viruses or perform another active action.

These are the so-called basic functions that must be in your antivirus. The only exception is network control, which is related to the firewall.

What is the best antivirus

All users have their own criteria and preferences in antiviruses, which is why each user will have their own best antivirus. Before touching on the list of the best antiviruses, according to site site experts, it is worth saying that the vast majority of antiviruses have 2 types of antivirus programs for computers and laptops: simple antivirus and antivirus + firewall (with additional features). For a home computer, a regular antivirus is enough, but if we talk in the vein of our topic, then the distribution kit that includes an antivirus + firewall can be called the best. If your computer does not have an Internet connection, then, in fact, you do not need a version with a built-in firewall, but if you have Internet access, we recommend installing an antivirus with a firewall.

1. Kaspersky (Kaspersky Anti-Virus)

In our opinion, Kaspersky Anti-Virus is this moment the best antivirus solution. There are many versions of Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but we will highlight two of the most popular ones: Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Internet Security. The difference between these two versions of the antivirus is that the first version is a simple antivirus, the second is an antivirus + firewall. Despite the shortcomings, the advantages of this antivirus are much greater and they are more significant. Now let's analyze all the pros and cons of Kaspersky Internet Security.

Advantages:

  • High degree of protection against viruses;
  • Beautiful and user-friendly interface;
  • High functionality and customization;
  • Worldwide popularity;
  • The presence of traffic control, site checks and anti-banner.

Flaws:

  • Relatively high price;
  • Extra "independence" of the antivirus in some situations;
  • Active scanning consumes a large amount of computer resources.

Antivirus prices:

A 1-year license for Kaspersky Anti-Virus is 1200 rubles.

A 1-year license for Kaspersky Internet Security will cost you 1,600 rubles.

In our opinion, Dr.Web antivirus rightfully occupies the second place among the list of the best antiviruses. In principle, Dr.Web and Kaspersky go hand in hand, but, nevertheless, Dr.Web is somewhat inferior to its main competitor. Dr.Web antivirus has two versions Dr.Web Antivirus and Dr.Web Security Space, simple antivirus and antivirus + firewall, respectively. Let's analyze them.

Advantages:

  • Good virus protection;
  • Control of work on the Internet, checking sites and anti-banner;
  • Simple interface.

Flaws:

  • In spite of Good work antivirus, sometimes skips viruses when scanning a PC;
  • AT latest versions antivirus flaws were noticed, which led to some problems in working with the program;
  • Compared to Kaspersky low price for a license, but not too affordable;
  • The lack of the ability to customize "for yourself" as in the previous product.

Antivirus prices:

A 1-year license for Dr.Web Anti-Virus will cost 990 rubles.

A 1-year license for Dr.Web Security Space costs 1290 rubles.

NOD32 is also a popular antivirus among home users. This antivirus protects your computer well from viruses and includes a number of useful additional features. Like other antiviruses, NOD32 has two versions: ESET NOD32 Antivirus and ESET Smart Security (with a firewall). After analyzing the antivirus, the following can be distinguished.

Advantages:

  • Good virus protection;
  • Ad blocking;
  • Safety in social networks;
  • Ease of use.

Flaws:

  • Problems with the complete removal of the antivirus from the computer;
  • Sometimes quite simple Trojans have been seen to be missed by antivirus;
  • The high cost of the license (and unjustified);
  • Problems with the speed of checking your computer for viruses.

Antivirus prices:

A 1-year license for ESET NOD32 Antivirus will cost 1080 rubles.

Well, at the end of the review of the best antivirus products, we should mention Avast! antivirus. As for its paid version - Avast! Internet Security, in our opinion, it occupies the last step in the ranking of the best antiviruses, which cannot be said about its free version - Avast! Free Antivirus, which is the best free antivirus available today. Avast! Free Antivirus is a full-fledged simple antivirus, and not a utility for checking your computer for viruses, which we will consider below.

Advantages:

  • Free, and a full-fledged antivirus, not a utility;
  • Good, as for a free antivirus, virus detection;
  • Blocking sites that can harm your computer;
  • Nice interface.

Flaws:

  • Low functionality;
  • Compared to paid counterparts, it sometimes skips viruses;
  • Does not block ads and banners on websites.

Antivirus prices:

Avast! Free Antivirus is free.

1 year license for Avast! Internet Security is 1450 rubles.

Well, after all of the above and after describing the best antiviruses to date, it is worth summing up a little. How not to twist, but only paid antivirus can reliably protect your computer from various kinds threats, besides, it will include a lot of additional services, which is very convenient. Summing up, let's say that, in our opinion, the best paid antivirus is Kaspersky Internet Security, and perhaps the only high-quality free antivirus is Avast! Free Antivirus. Well, the final choice is yours.

If you have already thought about the security of your computer and chose an antivirus program, then you probably read user reviews on the Internet.

Any user would like to install on their computer best antivirus, providing 100% protection against viruses and other malware software. That is, the ideal antivirus is the one that installed and forgot about all the dangers forever. The best antivirus should not bother you with various pop-up windows, but should just quietly do its job, protecting your computer 100% from viruses and other evil spirits.

I hasten to disappoint everyone who wants to find the best antivirus. " The best antivirus does not exist and cannot exist. There is a completely logical explanation for this, but I would not like to delve into all the technical points. In the following, I will only cover the most important things that every computer user should understand.

The proof that the best antivirus does not exist can be the comments of the users themselves, which they leave on various forums on the Internet. In these comments, some praise certain antiviruses, while others at the same time accuse these programs of being unreliable and passing viruses and trojans.

Unfortunately, most of these comments are made by people who have a very vague idea about antivirus software and draw conclusions about it only by comparing one antivirus with another.

« Well, yes", you say, " if one antivirus missed the Trojan, and the second one detected it, then the second one is more reliable". But this statement is only half true, or even less!

Have you ever wondered how a virus scan works?

And the search principle is quite simple. Antivirus passes the code of running or downloaded files through itself. Thus, according to certain algorithms, the antivirus searches for suspicious sections of code in the file, and if they are found, they are compared with the information stored in the antivirus database. If the information matches, then the antivirus issues a warning that such and such a virus or malicious software has been detected and even indicates its name taken from the database.

But viruses are created every day and in huge quantities. It's about not dozens, but thousands of new computer viruses being created every day. Not one anti-virus program simply physically cannot have all existing viruses in its anti-virus database, let alone update the database every day in such a volume. However, this problem has been partially solved.

In order to prevent an unknown virus from entering a computer, antivirus developers create special algorithms that allow them to analyze file codes and isolate potentially dangerous areas. Every modern antivirus is equipped with a so-called heuristic code analyzer. This module uses certain algorithms to analyze files in search of malicious code.

If such a piece of code is found, the antivirus warns about it, indicating the danger in the message. But few people read these messages, right? If a message appears, then for most users this means that a virus has been found! But is it really so?

Each developer of anti-virus software has a heuristic analyzer that works differently. It can be said that this trade secret every developer.

I hope you understand that such an analyzer can just guess that some section of the file's code is malicious. He can't guarantee it 100%.. Therefore, the assertions that some new and as yet unknown antivirus found viruses where everyone knows Kaspersky, Avast or Dr. Web they kept silent, which means that the unknown antivirus is better, it only makes me smile.

It is on the basis of the readings of heuristic analyzers that narrow-minded users conclude that one antivirus is better than another. But let's face it. Unknown anti-virus programs are developed by unknown programmers who may have some experience in the field of protection, but not at all comparable to such monsters, for example, as Kaspersky Lab or ESET NOD32, who have been professionally dealing with protection problems for decades.

Very often, the developers of new antiviruses "reinsure themselves", as a result of which their brainchildren block any files whose code they "did not like" for some reason.

Even well-known manufacturers in their heuristic code analyzers sometimes use algorithms that block quite reliable files.

Here is an example from mine personal experience. In the early 2000s, I used free antivirus Avira. It's an antivirus German company, which is one of the oldest antivirus developers and to this day their products are among the best in their class. At that time, another service pack was released, that is, an update for the operating system Windows 2000 and I downloaded it from the official Microsoft website, but Avira blocked this update, accusing it of a trojan...

Of course, there are people who, on the basis of this case, will conclude that Microsoft is distributing Trojans in order to take over all the computers in the world :) There have always been and always will be lovers of the "great conspiracy" theory. But let's face it - the heuristic analyzer of this antivirus has failed. Neither Kaspersky, nor Dr. Web, nor NOD32 found no threat...

Therefore, it is very important to understand that the heuristic analyzer only assumes the presence of a virus that is not listed in anti-virus databases. This assumption is based on special algorithms for some features. The antivirus itself "thinks" that the code being checked is viral.

Besides antivirus often only warns you about the presence of a suspicious file, but users rarely deal with the messages that the antivirus issues, and immediately conclude that the file is infected.

Now let's talk about the reliability of antiviruses.

There are independent laboratories that test antivirus software and issue summary tables based on the test results.

You can find similar tests yourself on the Internet, for example, on the website of an independent Russian information analytical center on information security- anti maLware.ru.

After studying the tests, you will understand that even well-known anti-virus systems make mistakes. They miss viruses and trojans, and cannot cure all infected files. Many well-known antiviruses have passed the virus detection test with a very high rate of 99% or so, but there is always 1% that was not detected and it is very important to understand!

So how do you choose the best antivirus?

I hope that you already understand that the best antiviruses simply do not exist!

Remember, the protection that any antivirus program provides is just 10-30% of protecting your entire system!

Therefore, I can give only one piece of advice when choosing anti-virus protection - it should be a product of one of the world's leading developers of anti-virus software.

Which one exactly? This question is very individual and I suggest that you independently study the ratings of anti-virus programs, for example, on the website of the independent center for information security anti maLware.ru or any other, and choose an anti-virus from the market leaders.

In conclusion, I will only say that I myself used many of the well-known antiviruses - Kaspersky, Avira, sh, Norton Internet Security, NOD 32, but for three years now, I have been using anti-virus protection Avast, both in the free and paid version.

Don't miss the opportunity to do a good deed:

The computer is an integral part Everyday life. For some, this is a means of making money, for someone spending leisure time, someone communicates with friends and relatives through a computer, and for someone, a computer has even replaced a trip to the store. Therefore, people try to protect their computer and the data that is stored in it in the best possible way. But what is the best way to do it in the world of advanced technologies? What are people guided by when choosing protection for their personal computer? How to achieve the maximum level of security? In this article, we will help you understand everything and make the right choice.

So, in order to secure your “machine”, you need to definitely install an antivirus on it. This is a program that will protect your computer from malicious software, scan the files and folders that we work with in order to detect viruses, destroy the viruses found, and also treat infected files. There are a huge number of antivirus programs, and each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages.

Before you start choosing an antivirus, you should understand the fact that you need to install not two or three antiviruses, but only one. Since after installing several, a program conflict will begin, which will be reflected in the system's performance. If you want to install another antivirus, you must first demolish the installed one.

Let's now look at the main antivirus programs. They are free and paid. Let's start with free ones.

Free antivirus programs

  • Avast Free Antivirus;
  • AVG Antivirus;
  • Avira Free Antivirus;
  • MSE ( Microsoft Security essentials).

After the expiration of the free demo version of the program, you will need to buy it, but after the purchase, the program's capabilities are greatly expanded. But if you have enough of the functions that the demo version is equipped with, and you have neither the desire nor the need to buy it, then after the expiration of the program, the activation procedure should be repeated.

We reviewed the main anti-virus programs, which, according to their criteria, occupy leading positions in the ratings. All these programs are compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems. Of course, the main factor when choosing antivirus software is the security and protection of data stored on the computer. But also, when choosing antivirus software, you should also consider the power of your computer.

What is the best antivirus for Windows 7?

The Windows 7 operating system was created in such a way that it has built-in functional protection in its arsenal, which is several times higher than previous versions of the OS. And everything seemed to be fine, but " evil geniuses malware developers are one step ahead, and their malware infiltrates the system, infecting and destroying everything in its path. Therefore, like any other version of the OS, Windows 7 needs additional protection. So, you definitely need to install an anti-virus program on your computer.

But what is the best antivirus program to choose? There is no definite answer to this question. Of the programs we have listed, all are considered good, but none of them guarantees you 100% protection.

When choosing an antivirus, keep in mind that the operating system can be 32-bit or 64-bit. Anti-virus software is developed specifically for each type. And, of course, computer settings. If they are very weak, then an antivirus like Kaspersky will simply slow down all the work.

Also, when choosing an antivirus, you need to decide what kind of work you need a computer for. If you use your computer to play or surf the Internet, then Avast (free version) will suit you. If you also work on it, then, by the way, Kaspersky (paid) will suit you. So, the choice is yours!

What is the best antivirus for Windows 8 and 10?

The Windows 8 operating system, like its predecessor, is equipped with a basic level of protection. Each a new version The OS has extended and improved security features. Finally, we see that Windows 8 has reached the point where programmers claim that this system is so developed and debugged that it can easily protect itself without antivirus software. But after weighing all the pros and cons, we still recommend installing an antivirus on your computer.

Since Windows 8 is significantly different from previous versions, not every antivirus program is suitable for this system.

And yet, what is the best antivirus to install in order to ensure stable operation of the system and secure the computer? Hand on heart, we can safely say that Kaspersky antivirus is ideal for Windows 8. It was this company that was the first to “conquer” and adapt anti-virus software for Windows 8. The operation of the system with this anti-virus is stable and safe.

Antiviruses such as NOD32 and Avast have also proven themselves well in terms of system protection and stability.

Summing up what has been said, we can conclude that the choice of an anti-virus program is your personal choice and we have no right to impose our opinion on you, but please give advice on choosing one or another anti-virus program. No need to chase popularity and brand, this is not always an indicator of quality. And also follow the reviews of friends and acquaintances, because each user praises his antivirus that he uses. But be that as it may, the choice is yours. Make no mistake, read, take a closer look, because the security of your computer depends on your choice.

Don't forget, your computer needs protection, so it's very important to choose a quality antivirus software for it.

Even the simplest virus can cause serious damage to user data and the system as a whole.

To date, the software market has hundreds of thousands of different antiviruses, so it is difficult for the user not to get confused and choose a really high-quality product.

The developers position the program as a powerful analogue to most antiviruses, which, among other things, can protect the operating system from pop-up advertising banners and prevent the hidden operation of some extensions.

Malwarebytes is not a full-fledged antivirus, but a huge number of users from all over the world noted its high-quality work and the real ability to protect a computer.

So we got our hands on the free Comodo Internet Security. This is a set of tools to protect your computer, which includes a firewall, antivirus and a proactive protection module. I will not describe all the features of Comodo Internet Security, because, in my opinion, they are standard and are present in most similar programs. The main difference between this program and the rest is its free and amazing reliability. At correct setting The program allows you to secure your computer to the maximum. The other day I reviewed several comparative tests that were carried out by various companies, and the results of these tests quite surprised me. As an example, I will give the results of one of these tests.

AVG AntiVirus FREE is a worldwide known antivirus program that is available free of charge for home users and is already used by millions of people around the world. Today I will talk about another free antivirus Avira Free Antivirus, which recently settled on one of my computers. The situation with it is special, since this antivirus is not a simple scanner, it does not need to be downloaded every time you need to check the system. This antivirus hangs in memory and does everything on its own. It downloads and installs updates on its own, independently checks the files accessed by the operating system and various applications.

A massive attack by the WannaCry ransomware (WannaCryptor, WanaDecryptor) has infected tens of thousands of computers in organizations and public institutions around the world. The malware exploits a known vulnerability described in security bulletin MS17-010 and a combination of EternalBlue / DoublePulsar exploits that can attack other vulnerable Windows systems on the same network. As a result, infection of one computer can lead to compromise of the entire corporate network in the organization.

After appearing on a computer due to the successful exploitation of a vulnerability, the WannaCry encryptor encrypts all files and documents of certain formats by executing remote commands sent via the SMB protocol and spreading to other Windows computers online.

Perhaps you are too trusting, and therefore did not install an antivirus on your PC, or the license for your antivirus has already expired, or the antivirus you have installed does not provide maximum protection, and ... maybe your PC is infected!

For the vast majority of home users of Windows 7 and Windows 10, Microsoft's regular antivirus product is fine. In the operating room Windows system 10, it is already built into the system called Windows Defender and does not need to be additionally downloaded and installed. But for Windows 7 you will have to install by downloading the Microsoft Security Essentials distribution from the Microsoft website. In fact, this is the same product, but with different names for various systems.

Dr.Web CureIt! - an antivirus that is noticeably different from the usual programs for everyone. This utility does not work all the time, preventing malware from appearing on the computer. It allows you to cure an already infected PC from viruses, Trojan horses, rootkits, etc. This feature of Dr.Web CureIt! defines the scope of the product. It can be used periodically to check the reliability of the antivirus installed on the computer, as well as in cases where, by indirect signs, one can suspect a PC infection. In general, Dr.Web CureIt! hard to overestimate.

Continuing the popular theme of free antivirus, I want to mention another development that I met relatively recently and which I have not had time to write about yet. In theory, it would be possible to add this information to the original message, but I decided to arrange everything in the form separate note. So, today we will talk about a free antivirus from Kaspersky Lab called Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool.

An interesting free antivirus program is released by Microsoft Corporation. The utility is called Malicious Software Removal Tool (Malicious Software Removal Tool for Microsoft® Windows® OS). This tool automatically scans your computer for a range of malware and removes them immediately when it is found. The tool is not a replacement for a regular anti-virus utility, it only allows you to conduct an express analysis for common viruses.
