In 2002, the well-known St. Petersburg director Yuri Butusov was invited to the Satyricon. On the stage of the capital's theater, Yuri staged the play "Macbeth", in which Maxim received the role of Banquo.
Maxim's character was very serious, so Averin rehearsed a lot, and gradually colleagues began to notice the fast professional growth Maxim. The performance went off with a bang, after which Maxim began to be considered one of the best actors of the Satyricon.
Two years later, Butusov again came to the capital, this time he planned to stage William Shakespeare's play "Richard III". Averin in this production got three roles at once: King Edward I, the Duchess of York and the Duke of Cranence.

The third theatrical work of Averin under the direction of Butusov was the famous "King Lear". In the play, Maxim played the main antagonist Edmund. For the masterful performance of this role in 2006, Averin was awarded the "Seagull" award in two categories at once: "Some Like it Hot" and "Villain".
In the summer of 2015, Averin left the theater after working in it for 18 years.

A year later, Maxim tried himself in an unusual role - he played the Sphinx cat Shield in the children's fantasy movie Aziris Nuna. As the actor himself says, he had never played anything like this before, and he really liked this unusual role.
Averin can also be seen in the tapes "Cat Waltz" (2006), "Aurora's Love", "I Love You to Death" (2007), the TV series "Dead. Alive. Dangerous (2006) and To Be Continued (2008).
Real popularity and universal recognition came to Averin in 2008, when he played the main role in the television series "Capercaillie". The role of policeman Sergei Glukharev secured his status as a "brutal police captain" and brought the actor in 2011 the TEFI Award for "Best Actor".
