Themes downloaded from third party sources. "Themes from third-party sources are not supported" in MIUI: how to bypass the ban. Change through third-party programs

Devices on the Android OS are distinguished by the ability to change almost everything in the user interface. The Chinese firmware modification - miui, installed on Xiaomi phones, is no exception. In this article, we will analyze the work with fonts. Consider using the example of Xiaomi Redmi 3 how to increase the font and how to change it to a completely different one.

Change of size

On Xiaomi smartphones, there are usually 3 font sizes: S, M, L (in later versions it became 5 sizes and even more). By default, the medium size is set to M. To change it, open Settings - Display - Text size. Depending on the version, the location of this setting may change, for example, in miui 5 and 6 versions, you need to go to Settings - Advanced - Font.

If you are unable to change the size, for example, an error appears, then you have Chinese homemade firmware installed. In this case, the following trick helps: change the language of the smartphone to English, change the size and return the Russian language.

The standard way to change the font

There are two ways to change the font: buy / download from the Xiaomi store or upload your own. All fonts must be in mtz format. Depending on the version of the operating system, the methods vary greatly, here are the most popular options:

Not all firmware versions and themes support changing system settings. Therefore, if you do not have the necessary menu items, then you should use other methods described below.

If there is no option choose a font

With the advent of the miui firmware update version 8, many are faced with the inability to install their own version of the fonts, this problem is especially relevant for global firmware versions (usually they are installed on new smartphones, for example, Xiaomi Mi 5). In fact, this option is there, just the developers do not yet give access to this feature to everyone, although this option is unlocked on the Chinese version. However, users have found two solutions to this problem.

Recently, to create, modify and install third-party themes, Xiaomi requires a designer account, below is how to get this status.

Easy option

Open Settings - Advanced Settings - Region and set "India".

We go to Themes, update and you should have a menu for setting fonts, which will no longer disappear. You can then return your own region.

It is possible that after the release of the next update, this option will no longer work. Then you will have to use the more official method described below.

official method

  1. Install the program for creating shortcuts. For example, the application QuickShortcutMaker.
  2. Open the application, find "Settings" go to them.
  3. In the list we find the font settings.
  4. Click on the name to change the name.
  5. Click "Create" to display the settings on the desktop. If there is no shortcut anywhere, then go to the settings, installed applications, find the QuickShortcutMaker program and enable the display of shortcuts in the options.
  6. Now we have a shortcut that opens the font settings for us, select the one we like and download.
  7. Click on the "Theme" button (themes) in the upper right corner, agree with the warnings.
  8. Open the Themes app, select "offline" and click "Import".
  9. We find the location of your font and mark it, confirm with the "OK" button.
  10. We open the shortcut we created earlier, click "default" and select the font you need from the list, after which we confirm the reboot of the smartphone.
  11. If you get the following error: "Themes from third-party sources are not supported, error: download auth rejected 402", then your account needs designer status.
  12. Getting the status of a designer

To become a designer, you must have a Mi account.

When you are asked to fill in the bank card information, skip it and accept the agreement with the Accept Agreement button.

Now we are waiting, confirmation usually comes in a day or three. If you do not receive a confirmation or refusal letter for a long time, then we try to enter the site under your account, the status of your application should be visible there.

    Change through third-party programs

To change the font, you can use third-party programs. This method has two disadvantages:

    1. The font changes only in third-party programs; in standard applications and the operating system, it remains the same.
    2. Root access is required to use these programs.

The most popular program is iFont. It contains many fonts, taking into account the system language, in the "Online" section we find the one you need, download and install it.

    Convert and download

Many are wondering where you can download a font for Xiaomi, but initially you need to understand the situation. Most of the generated fonts are in ttf format, but Xiaomi devices require mtz format. Users have two options:

    1. Search for fonts in mtz format. On the request "download mtz fonts" or "download fonts for Xiaomi" there is a fairly large selection from different developers.
    2. Choose any one you like on the Internet and download in ttf format, Google has a very rich choice at the link fonts.google.com, then we use a converter to convert to a format for Xiaomi.

For conversion, an android program called FONT2MTZ is used, unfortunately, it is not available in the Google market, it must be downloaded separately. You can find this application yourself or use the link to the application page from the miui forum. To download, you need to register there or log in with your account.

When installing themes for MIUI from third-party sources, many users are faced with a situation in which the system refuses to execute their command, thereby limiting smartphone owners in personalizing their mobile device. What is the reason for this and how to solve this problem?

Restrictions on installing themes have been going on since 2104, when Xiaomi decided to introduce a complete restriction on the downloads of any MIUI components on Google Play. After that, you can download and install additional themes only from the official Xiaomi market.

All this is more than logical, as it is done in order to protect copyrights, as well as for the systematic development of the MIUI interface, but it is not always convenient for the end user.

At the same time, it doesn’t matter where exactly you decide to download the theme for MIUI, for free or for a fee - in any case, a message will appear on the screen of your phone that “Themes downloaded from third-party sources are not supported. error: download|auth rejected 402".

At the moment, there are two actual and, most importantly, official ways to get around this ban:

  • you must be a beta tester;
  • you must be registered as a designer.

How to become a Xiaomi beta tester?

To do this, you need to do just 4 steps:

  • free of charge via your email;
  • set an avatar in your Mi account;
  • Find any issue you are experiencing with MIUI and report it in the Issue Screenshot Reports section. If you do not know English, you can freely describe the problem in Russian.
  • wait 2-3 days and they will remove the restriction, making you a beta tester.

After registering as a beta tester, you have access to download themes you like from third-party sources and the message “Themes from third-party sources are not supported” will no longer appear on your screen.

As in the previous way to solve the issue with unlocking themes, you must register a Mi account.

After that, go to the site https://designer.xiaomi.com, where log in by entering your username and password.

On the page that opens, click on the "Individual designer" button.

In the window that appears, fill in the required data. If it is not necessary to fill in the home address, then the real photo, not the avatar, should be set on the “Personal photo”. After filling in all the data, click on the green button.

After 2-3 days, your application will be reviewed and a notification will be sent to your email.

As soon as you receive confirmation from Xiaomi that you have become a free designer, you will be removed from the restriction on importing third-party MIUI themes.

Update (03.2018): Description of installing themes has been added using the Mi Theme Editor.

One of the many benefits of the MIUI overlay is the wide scope for personalizing the system and aligning everything with your Xiaomi device needs. An extensive skinning engine allows you to change themes, which not only change the look of icons or wallpapers, but also change the layout and color of settings, the notification bar, and other system apps.

Themes can be downloaded both from the official Themes app and from various websites and blogs discussing the theme of the MIUI system and Xiaomi devices. An example is the official MIUI forum. Installing skins from the official store in Themes app is very easy - just select a theme and confirm the installation. And what about the themes that we download as .MTZ file from the web?

Manual installation of motives in MIUI

If you downloaded the theme from the Internet, such as the theme section of the official MIUI forum, you will receive an .MTZ file. The first thing you need to do is, of course, send this file to the phone's memory, for example, via a USB cable.

After submitting the topic, navigate to the application "Topic" and then select the tab on the main screen Offline. It is marked with a blue icon with an arrow pointing down.

At this point, you can switch between themes that are already installed on the system (local themes). Here you can also install themes from your phone's local storage. To do this, click the button "Load Theme" at the bottom of the screen.

A file browser window will appear - select the file now .MTZ with the motif downloaded and copied to the phone. Once the file is selected, the theme will be added to the Offline tab. To activate it, simply select it and confirm with the button "Apply".

Help! "Third-party themes are not supported" error message when installing MIUI theme

Unfortunately, there is one problem. By default, you can only install skins from the official Themes app. When we try to manually install a theme downloaded from the internet, an error will appear "Themes from third party sources are not supported". This is because MIUI blocks the manual installation of motifs for some time.

Everything has to do with the change in the rules of MIUI motives, which took place already in 2014. In order to increase the copyright protection of theme creators, Xiaomi has decided that it will be prohibited to install any skins outside of the official statement. "Topic". Therefore, by default, skins can only be installed by the Themes app, downloading only those that are in the official directory.

However, there are two ways to get around the "Third-party themes not supported" error and unlock manual installation of themes. You can do this using the Mi Theme Editor app which will force you to install the theme or you can register your account as a theme creator (MIUI Designer) which will unlock the ability to install any themes in our account.

Method #1 – Converting and Installing Theme Using MI Theme Editor App

The first, easier way is to use the Mi Theme Editor app. This app allows you to import a downloaded theme from the web and force install it. You don't need to register as MIUI Designer, just download the app and use it to install themes. The MI Theme Editor app is available on the Play Store for free.

Download MI theme editor

Once the app has downloaded, launch it and then on the home screen, tap "View", to search for a topic in the phone's memory. Now select the .MTZ file with the theme you don't want to install normally with Themes app.

After selecting a theme file, touch OK, and then on the main screen of the MI theme editor, select the option "Start". Editing options will now be available as the MI Theme Editor app allows you to change themes. However, we don't want to change anything, so we ignore all editing options and select "Next" in the lower right corner.

In the next step, we can confirm the export of the theme. Leave the default settings and select an option "Ready". A message will appear. "Your topic has been saved. Do you want to install it?"(Your theme has been saved. Do you want to install it now?).

Select the option " OK " to confirm the theme installation. The theme will be installed, omitting the unsupported third-party theme message.

Now just go to the app "Topic" in MIUI and go to the tab Offline where all installed themes are displayed. In the list of locally installed themes, you will find the theme exported by the MI Theme Editor - just select and activate it.

Method #2 - Unlock unofficial themes by registering as a MIUI designer

If you don't want to use the Theme Converter app, the alternative way is to register your account as MIUI Designer. It turns out that manual installation of themes is not completely prohibited and blocked. The manual adding feature still exists. You can unlock it by registering as a theme creator. We will then get designer status and the feature will be unlocked on our Mi account. Then there will be no need to use the Mi Theme Editor app and you can add themes directly downloaded from the web using the official Motifs app.

Register as MIUI Designer

Then, on the login screen, sign in with the same Mi account you use on your phone. If you don't have a Mi account yet, you must first set it up and log into it on your phone (Settings > Accounts).

After logging into your Mi account, a selection screen will appear where you have to choose whether you want to register as an individual or as a company. choose "Individual Designer".

In the next step, a short form will appear in which you must fill in all the fields with real data, especially the field with a photo.

  • Designer's name- your nickname
  • Real name- real name and surname
  • Cell phone number– your phone number (precede it by forwarding +48 to Poland)
  • personal photo- a photo where you can see your face
  • Permanent Address- you can leave it blank (the field is optional)

We recommend that you pay special attention to the picture in which your person should be present. Posting a photo of an actor, singer, celebrity, or cat or dog will likely result in the registration being rejected, as confirmed by the moderators.

After filling out the form, click the green register button. Your application will be submitted and you will have to wait while the data is verified. As a rule, it lasts no more than 3 days. You will receive an email and SMS confirming your registration as a designer.

When this happens, log out of your Mi Account on your phone and log back in. You can do this by going to "Settings > Accounts". After logging in, you will be able to install themes from a file using the method described at the beginning of the article. There will no longer be an error in installing themes from external sources.

How to install an .apk file on Android from a third-party source

An .apk file is an executable application file for the Android operating system. In this format, programs for Android are distributed through application stores, and they can also be manually downloaded to a smartphone or tablet from specialized sites, followed by their launch.

For example, you saw an application you like available for download on the site, but you are used to installing programs through the Google Play Market, and now you have downloaded the installation file, but what's next? It needs to be installed on your device, to do this, do the following:

Now the application is installed and you can use it as you wish. It is worth warning that by installing applications downloaded in the form of .apk installers, an inexperienced user is at risk of infecting his device with a virus. There are a lot of .apk programs on the net with tempting offers, like: update your Android to the latest version, install Flash Player, win the lottery, install a super erotic game, etc. Beware of installing such programs, such offers have only one purpose - to introduce a virus into your smartphone or tablet. Download .apk files only from reputable sites.

Third Party App Stores

If for some reason you are not satisfied with Google Play, although with its gigantic assortment it is not clear what may not suit you, then you can always use third-party app stores that many well-known Internet companies have, such as Yandex. However, the variety of programs in such stores will always be inferior to Google Play.

If you still decide to use programs from third-party stores, then you need to consider the following things:

  • Download the store client only from an official source, for example. Attackers can offer some special client on fake sites, in which all applications are free and without ads.
  • Each store has its own rules, often different from the Google Play rules you are used to.
  • Third party stores may require additional registration and may not work in some countries.
