There are usually many days off during the May holidays, so my friend and I decided to spend them in one of my favorite cities in Europe - Budapest. In my opinion, this city has a special charm, goodwill, and its beauty at night, in general, is very difficult to describe in words. I like to walk for hours along the old part, climb the sacred Gellert mountain, drink coffee on the embankment and admire the bridges in the light of illumination, go to small cafes in the Heroes' Square area to enjoy amazing Hungarian cuisine. This trip was no exception and brought a lot of pleasant impressions, thanks to which I am now planning a new trip in the fall.

Weather in Budapest in May

Air temperature

In May, he pleased us with wonderful, warm weather. The sun was shining brightly in the sky, there was no strong heat. The thermometers showed very comfortable + 24 - + 28 degrees. Therefore, with walks, everything turned out as well as possible, better. For the first time in all my visits to Budapest, I even decided to take a daytime walk along the Danube on a river bus. My friend and I bought delicious cherries at the Central Market, took seats on the upper deck and enjoyed magnificent views of the Hungarian capital for two hours. It turned out that a walk along the river during the day is no worse than at night. I also really liked walking in the park near the Vajdahunyad castle in May, the trees, bushes and flowers around pleased me with their bright, rich, not yet faded colors. It got cooler in the evening. The temperature dropped to + 13 - + 15 degrees. In this regard, light raincoats and jackets that we took from home were very useful to us. Already according to an established tradition, we climbed to the top of Mount Gellert, sacred to Hungarians, to admire Budapest in the light of night lights, and then walked along the beautiful Chain Bridge and Elisabeth Bridge. It is good that there were comfortable shoes, otherwise walking would have been a problem.

Precipitation and wind speed

May in Budapest is one of the rainiest months of the year. We were also able to verify this. After all, it rained for three days of our stay. Although it was short enough and did not spoil the mood at all. On the contrary, it gave the city a special romantic atmosphere. He was waited for at the Ladó Café, on Dohány u street. 50, where they ate incredibly tasty fish, and admired Budapest from the windows. But in any case, an umbrella in May in the capital of Hungary should be a must. If we talk about wind speed, then it is - 3.5 m / s. This did not cause me much discomfort, but the waitress said that for Budapest such indicators are quite strong, and that May is considered one of the windiest months of the year.

Holidays and festivals in Budapest in May

labor holiday

May 1st is Labor Day in Budapest. This is an official day off, which, of course, makes all residents of the capital very happy. My friend and I were also lucky to see him. Most of all I liked the concert at the Heroes' Square with the participation of artists popular in Hungary, there were also interesting performances by folk groups in front of the Parliament building. A lot of Budapest residents walked in the parks with their whole families, from which we concluded that Labor Day is a wonderful occasion to spend this day with your family and friends.

Tourist saturation in Budapest in May

There are a lot of people who want to visit in May, especially from the CIS countries, as well as from China (although in the latter case there are always a lot of them, in all countries, at any time of the year). Therefore, if you want to live in a hotel in a good area of the city, so that you can walk as long as possible around the night capital of Hungary and not be tied to transport, then you need to take care of this in advance. I booked the hotel three months in advance, thanks to which we lived in the center of the majestic and ancient Buda. I bought plane tickets for three and a half, as it turned out later, this saved a good amount. But I am convinced that the beauty of Budapest is worth all the preparations made in advance, so I do it with great pleasure.
