Where to pierce tanks with thick armor

Punch twice in the same place

Many tank modules presented in World of Tanks have a set amount of damage points (hp). You can damage the module from the first shot. If you see that the projectile successfully penetrated the tank's armor and damaged the module or incapacitated a crew member, shoot in the same place again. A double hit on the same place of the tank guarantees a second penetration of its protection.

Shoot between the hull and tracks

The vulnerabilities of most tanks are hidden under the protection of the hull. But there is a place where a projectile can hit the hull and damage the engine or undermine the ammunition rack. This place is located between the hull and the tracks of the tank. Under the very bottom of the hull, try to shoot a projectile just above the caterpillar so that the shot hits the part of the tank to which the undercarriage is attached. Aim at the gun and under the turret

Very often there is a situation when you have a tank with 100% HP in front of you, and you need to win with less than 25% health points of your own combat vehicle. Shots on the wide part of the tank gun from the side will help here. With a pierced gun, the tank will lose more than half of its combat effectiveness and become an easy target for you. That is, aiming the gun itself at the target is not enough, it is important to wait for the moment when the aiming circle stops decreasing. Otherwise, the probability of a miss increases dramatically. When the tank moves and the turret and barrel turn, as well as after the shot, the sight "diverges", that is, the aiming circle increases sharply and it is necessary to wait for the aiming again. The convergence time is the time during which the circle of convergence decreases by ~2.5 times, to be precise, by e times (e is a mathematical constant, the base of the natural logarithm is ~2.71).

It is also important to understand that in the game (without installing extraneous modifications) a circle of information is displayed, and not a circle of dispersion - these two circles have completely different diameters and, with very rare exceptions, do not coincide with each other. It is important to remember that the armor penetration indicated in the performance characteristics is indicated for the armor plate located at an angle of 90 degrees to the direction of the projectile. That is, the slope of the armor is not taken into account, while most tanks have sloped armor, which is much harder to penetrate. Also, the armor penetration indicated in the performance characteristics is indicated at a distance of 100 m, and with increasing distance it decreases (relevant for sub-caliber and armor-piercing shells and not applicable for high-explosive / HESH and cumulative).

Armor

Each tank has a reservation. However, the thickness of the armor is not the same everywhere. It is the thickest in the front. Behind - on the contrary, the thinnest. The roof and bottom of the tank are also very weakly armored. Armor is specified in the following format: frontal armor thickness/side armor thickness/stern armor thickness. And if the armor, for example, is equal to 38/28/28, then a gun with a penetration capacity of 30 mm in the general case will be able to penetrate the stern and side, but not the forehead. Due to the 25% dispersion, the actual penetration of this gun from shot to shot will vary from 22.5 to 37.5 mm.

It should be remembered that when specifying the armor, its slope is not taken into account. For example, the armor of the T-54 is 120 mm, the angle of inclination is 60°, and the normalization of the projectile is 4-5°. With such a slope, the reduced armor thickness will be about 210 mm. However, even the thickest armor has its vulnerabilities. These are various hatches, machine-gun nests, cabins, joints, etc.

Non-penetration and ricochet

Each projectile has its own penetration threshold. And if it is smaller than the armor of an enemy tank, then the projectile will not penetrate it. To do this, it is necessary to aim at the most vulnerable places of the tank: the stern, sides and various ledges and crevices. If this does not help, you can use high-explosive shells.

When shooting at a tank at an angle, there is a high chance of a ricochet. The boundary between penetration and ricochet lies at an angle of 70°. If the caliber of the projectile exceeds the thickness of the armor more than 3 times, the ricochet does not occur, and if it is doubled, the normalization of the projectile increases in proportion to the excess of the caliber of the gun over the thickness of the armor - and the projectile tries to penetrate the armor at any angle. So, for example, when firing from a 100mm gun with 170 armor penetration, at an armor plate 30mm thick at an angle of 89.99 degrees, the normalization will increase to 23.33 degrees, and the reduced armor will be 30/cos(89.99-23.33)= 75.75mm of armor.

Location of weak points

The location of the various modules in the game is not indicated, but it fully corresponds to the real prototypes. And therefore, if in real life the ammunition was in the left corner of the back of the tank, then in the game it will be there. But still, the weakest points of tanks are located in approximately the same place:

  • The engine and fuel tank are usually located in the aft (rear) part of the tank.
  • The ammunition rack is located in the center of the hull or in the aft (rear) part of the turret.
  • To knock down a tank caterpillar, you need to shoot at the front or last roller.
  • The gun and triplexes are visible to the naked eye.
  • The commander, as a rule, is in the tower and can be incapacitated by a hit on the commander's cupola.

Damage by modules

Shooting at modules has its own characteristics. Often, when modules are hit, the damage goes to them, but not to the tank itself. Each module has its own durability points (health units). If they are completely removed (critical damage), then the module stops working and it will take some time to restore it. Module health units are not fully restored, but only up to 50%. It remains damaged and may not work as well. Accordingly, it will be easier to break the same module in the future. If new damage is inflicted on the module during the repair process, health points are removed, the repair continues up to 50%. That is, if a tank with a removed caterpillar continues to hit the same caterpillar, then it will be repaired constantly (or until the tank is destroyed).

And finally - another big minus of this artillery. He completely lacks a negative angle of vertical aiming. Imagine that a light tank breaks through to your base, drives up close to your forehead, and there is nothing you can do about it. The best medium tank for the game World of Tanks from disguising and bending enemies is the French tank Bat.-Chatillon 25t. An excellent concealment ratio allows this tank to take the most risky positions on the map without glowing. The highest percentage of victories was taken into account. However, some changes were made, because there were situations when the vehicle was new and only experienced players upgraded it, which is why the percentage of victories on the tank is much higher without any reason. In addition, such vehicles as, for example, the KV-220 did not get into the material, the statistics on which are very high, but the tank is now impossible to get.

Several levels housed several tanks, because it was very difficult to choose the best one.

First level - MS-1 (49.08% of victories on the server)

The undisputed leader comes from the USSR - MS-1. Thanks to its set of characteristics, Pug mercilessly oppresses newcomers and pedobears who have just entered the game with tens of thousands of battles behind them.

The MS-1 has no armor (at the first level, no one has it), amazing dynamics or accuracy ... But a 45mm gun can deprive the enemy of 47 HP, which is quite a lot. In addition, the tank has a small size, which reduces the likelihood of hitting it.

Second tier - PzKpfw 38H735 (f) (56.53% of victories across the server)

Although I promised not to include tanks that are impossible to get in the article, I simply cannot but tell about the Minimaus, since this unusually protected tank can simply bend random battles with its chic armor.

Pay attention to the server win percentage - 56.53% is very, very high. And all due to the fact that the PzKpfw 38H735 (f) has a completely amazing circular armor with a thickness of 40mm. Classmates in terms of level pierce Minimaus with great difficulty, and first-level machines may not even try to do it (unless the same MS-1 can try and it is unlikely that he will succeed).

In addition, these 40mm of armor are located not only in the forehead and sides, but also, attention, in the stern. Among the shortcomings of the PzKpfw 38H735 (f) should be noted low speed and not very high penetration. However, these shortcomings are easily compensated by the chic advantages of the car.

It is also worth mentioning the good 51mm tank destroyer armor, which can save you from shots in difficult times.

Of course, it was not without drawbacks. You should always remember that you are a tank destroyer, not a tank - the T18 does not have a turret, so an enemy that has climbed into the rear can cause you a lot of problems. Yes, and the enemy can get used to the board, which is also not very pleasant.

If the T18 is designed for those who like to one-shot the enemy, then the T2 Light Tank will appeal to players who love fast rides. This is one of the fastest tanks in the game, so you can always rely on the tank's engine to help you out in difficult times. For example, when the base is captured, you can quickly return and break the capture.

In addition, in addition to speed, the T2 Light Tank boasts an unusual armament - a machine gun that takes down 12 HP units to the enemy in one hit. If you know how to use these weapons correctly, you can work real miracles.

The tank also has disadvantages, for example, the complete absence of armor and not very high maneuverability, which will play a trick on you more than once.

At the fourth level, it was rather difficult to choose the most bending tank, since almost all vehicles are rather average in terms of their characteristics. However, an interesting tank destroyer at this level also has its name "Hetzer". True, for a comfortable and spectacular bend, you will need a lot of silver. KV-1S (49.06%)

Recognized imba in World of Tanks. The most severe one-time damage of 390 units, enemy tanks burst with two shots. In addition to an excellent gun, Kvass has good mobility, which is quite unexpected for a tank that deals such wild damage.
