House system requirements. Introducing the DOOM 2016 Beta: Gameplay Impressions and Benchmarks. Summary testing of video cards

Another blockbuster has appeared on sale, but you don’t know if your faithful “fighting machine” will pull it? Or maybe you are planning to make a serious hardware upgrade? Or even buy a new system unit to replace the old one? Read our new anti-crisis column "A budget computer with system requirements" and save your time, nerves and money!

In this issue, we will talk about Doom and try to build an inexpensive gaming computer for it. If you have not yet accumulated enough money, then you can read the material just for general development for the future.

Today, May 13, Doom was released on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This game is a restart of the very first, released back in 1993, part of the cult franchise of the same name. The Doom games told the story of a marine who saved the planets of the solar system from the forces of Hell, destroying hordes of demons along the way.

Even a few days before the release of the game, its official minimum system requirements were announced:

CPU: Intel Core i5-2400 or AMD FX-8320.
Video card: NVIDIA GTX 670 2 GB or AMD Radeon HD 7870 2 GB.
RAM: 8 GB
Hard disk space: 55 GB.

It seems that they are not so high, but you should not delude yourself: under the “minimum” requirements, we usually mean the configuration on which the game will start and run smoothly, except at low settings. Therefore, we will select components with a small margin and at the same time try to save where possible.

Note. All prices below are the lowest prices available in various stores and are valid as of mid-May 2016.

Processor for Doom

Intel Core i5-4460 (left) and AMD FX-8320 (right)

Let's start with processors. The good old quad-core Core i5-2400 from Intel appeared back in 2011. This model is no longer on sale, and its modern and somewhat more productive counterpart can be considered the quad-core Core i5-4460, while the minimum price for such a “briquette” is 13 thousand rubles. But we were lucky with the eight-core FX-8320 from AMD - although it was released back in 2012, you can still find it in stores. The processor will cost 10.5 thousand rubles, which is much cheaper than all modern analogues.

Deepcool Ice Blade 200M

Yes, we completely forgot: since we took the processors without complete (and useless) fans, for the same saved money we will take a good model from Deepcool called Ice Blade 200M. It costs 1300 rubles and is suitable for both an Intel processor and AMD “stones”.

Video card for Doom

ASUS GeForce GTX 960 4GB (left) and Sapphire Radeon R9 380 4GB (right)

Now let's move on to video cards. Unfortunately, only the GTX 900 series from NVIDIA has been on sale for a long time, and the "thousandth" series has not yet gone on sale. Therefore, let's see what we have here relatively inexpensive and productive. And we have a wonderful board called the GeForce GTX 960. Its most affordable version manufactured by ASUS and with 4 gigabytes of video memory on board will cost at least 16 thousand rubles. Why with 4? The difference in price compared to the 2 GB version is only 1.5 thousand rubles, but in games the increase when working with heavy textures is noticeable. As for video cards from AMD, there are no more analogues in terms of power on sale, and the nearest current model called the Radeon R9 380 with 4 gigabytes is about one and a half times more powerful than the recommended one and costs a little more than the GeForce mentioned above - about 18 thousand rubles. We recommend that you only purchase Radeons from the long-established Sapphire brand.

RAM for Doom

Samsung DIMM DDR3 4GB 1600

So, next we have RAM. At the moment, Samsung's RAM can be considered the best option in terms of price / quality. Let's take two sticks of 4 gigabytes of DDR3 standard with a frequency of 1600 MHz - now this is already the minimum memory frequency for comfortable work with modern programs and games. Their minimum cost for both is 2,700 rubles.

Motherboard for Doom

Gigabyte GA-H97-HD3 (left) and Gigabyte GA-780T-D3L (right)

We go further. Now we have to put it all somewhere. Guess what we're going to choose now? That's right - the motherboard. We have two processors, from different manufacturers and for different connectors, so you will have to pick up two different boards. Among all brands, it is worth paying attention to the GIGABYTE trademark. This company is today considered one of the leading manufacturers of "motherboards", and in the assortment presented to it, you can find products of all price categories and for absolutely any computer configuration. A relatively inexpensive model called GA-H97-HD3 would be best suited for an Intel processor. Its minimum price is 6.5 thousand rubles. But for the AMD socket, the immortal GA-780T-D3L is still on sale (already the 4th revision!). This full-size board will cost only 3.5 thousand rubles.

Of course, you can save quite a lot if you buy Micro-ATX motherboards (shortened versions), but then you will seriously limit the potential for further upgrades of your system, so we strongly recommend that you do not do this.

Hard drive for Doom

Western Digital WD10EZEX 1TB

Well, only the hard drive and the case with the power supply remained. Hardin volume is hardly worth taking less than 1 terabyte, and there is no need for more. If you wish, you can also buy an SSD, but we are talking about a budget PC here, right? Not so long ago, Samsung was considered the most optimal manufacturer, but a couple of years ago Western Digital took the market seriously and released different models for all price categories at once, so let's focus on the WD Caviar Blue family. There is also just Blue, but they have only 5400 rpm. This is only good for laptops. A model called WD10EZEX will cost 3800 rubles - not that expensive.

Case and power supply for Doom

FOX 5905-BK

And finally, the case and the power supply. Usually they are bought separately from each other, but if you want to save money, it is better to take a case already with power supply. The zoo of buildings is quite extensive and diverse. Having dug around a lot, I still managed to find a good and inexpensive option - FOX 5905-BK of the Miditower standard and with a 450-watt power supply included. This "box" will cost a ridiculous 2.5 thousand rubles.

The total cost of a budget computer for Doom

Now let's calculate what we got. As you might guess, the cheapest option would be a configuration with an AMD processor and a Radeon graphics card - the total amount is at least 42,300 rubles. What about the price of an alternative with more prestigious components from Intel and NVIDIA? Slightly higher - 45.800 rubles. In principle, there is not such a big difference, and the reliability of these brands will pay off with interest, because most games are now primarily optimized for them.

* * *

Thus, we studied the modern market of PC components and tried to find the most budget options for them. This configuration should allow you to comfortably play the hot new game called Doom at low settings at 1920x1080, and at 1280x720 at least at medium-high. However, since very often the system requirements for new products are slightly overestimated, it is likely that the game will run on this configuration even an order of magnitude better.

If, however, assembling a computer in parts is not too exciting for you, or you are not ready to lay out almost a “fifty kopeck” for Doom, try the Playkey cloud gaming service. All major novelties regularly appear in its catalog, and the system characteristics of your home computer cease to matter - everything starts in the cloud and reaches you thanks to streaming technology. Also a great option!

Thanks for reading! Love games, but don't forget to go for a walk!

One of the most significant gaming events of this spring was the release of the next part of the game Doom 4. The continuation of the legendary saga, which tells about the fight against the Martians, has a lot of fans and high marks from various gaming editors. In addition, the improved idTech 6 engine and Vulkan technology have taken the game's graphics to the next level.

Release

Despite the fact that the release of the game was delayed several times, as well as problems with the story and script, we were still able to see the birth of Doom 4. The release date was postponed several times, but the game was released on May 13, 2016 under the general name DOOM. Despite the fact that the concept of the game changed several times, the developers were still able to create a game worthy of their predecessors.

Minimum

Improvement of the graphics of the game did not go unnoticed. Technically, Doom 4 did not raise the requirements (system) very high, especially for 2016, however, some difficulties may arise on low-powered computers.

  • To run the game at minimum settings, you will need an operating system of at least Windows 7. Although the main required software comes with video card drivers and Visual C ++, OS support is also required for the components to interoperate.
  • Processor generation I5 with a frequency of 2.4 MHz. Variations are possible here, even though these are the "minimum" requirements. Considering the specifics of modern applications, we can say with confidence that the main load will fall on the video card, which means that any quad-core processor with a frequency of 1.8 GHz or more will be able to "pull" Doom 4.
  • The video card is the most important element of any modern gaming computer. NVIDIA with 2 gigabytes of memory can make up for the lack of processor power quite well. Given that this device is the flagship among budget gaming cards, there is nothing special about it.
  • But you will need 8 gigabytes of RAM. And it is better not to save on it. Moreover, when it is not a laptop, then increasing its volume is not a particular problem either technically or financially.

In general, Doom 4's (system) requirements are not so high as to completely abandon the idea of playing the next series of your favorite saga.

Featured

But to run at maximum settings, Doom 4 has slightly higher requirements (system). But they concern the most expensive parts of the computer.

  • If you want to comfortably play the new part of "Duma", then you will need a more powerful car. At least generations of Intel Core i7-3770.
  • The situation is similar with the video card. You will need a new generation card, such as NVIDIA GTX 970 with 4 gigabytes of memory.

In addition to the above parameters, you will also need 55 gigabytes of free hard disk space, as well as a dedicated line for the rest of the specifications remain unchanged. Thus, Doom 4 requirements (system) to the computer are not too high so that you can enjoy high-quality graphics.

In this review, a summary test of video cards and processors in the game DOOM will be carried out. Recall that the game itself will be released on May 13 this year on PC and consoles of the current generation.

Introducing the DOOM (2016) Beta and Developer Plans for the Near Future

In early April, publisher Bethesda held a closed beta test among a limited number of players. Thanks to Nvidia, I also got to this event.

The purpose of the CBT was to test the multiplayer component of the game on a limited number of maps. All available locations featured a variety of shelters and branches, making them suitable for the use of different tactics of a team game. First-aid kits, armor, as well as different types of weapons are scattered on the battlefields. In addition to them, a demon rune appears in a random location, allowing you to turn into a huge monster with a twin rocket launcher and a jetpack. Despite the fact that this enemy is quite powerful, it is not difficult to kill him. In other words, he does not bring imbalance into the game.

Several types of weapons were available in the game, including the Plasma Rifle, Shotgun, and Rocket Launcher. There are also a couple of types of equipment: a teleporter and fragmentation grenades. Players have two types of weapons and one equipment at their disposal. It is important that regardless of the chosen combination of weapons and equipment, the pace of the game did not change. In addition to the main shooting mode, there is a modifier that can remotely control the charge of the rocket launcher or improve aiming for the shotgun, killing all enemies with one shot.

It will most likely be rated 16+ when the game is released, as every enemy hit is accompanied by blood and flying limbs. In close combat, if the opponent has a little health left, you can perform a spectacular finishing move, accompanied by a lot of blood. Despite the fact that the locations are vast, and there are not so many players on them, active battles are always in full swing in DOOM. Even if someone tries to hide in a secluded place, he is quickly found. And due to the well-optimized and well-thought-out structure of the cards, the battle does not stop for the whole round.

In general, the gameplay in the game is quite dynamic: the characters quickly run and jump, and the weapons strike quickly and inevitably. DOOM delivers a lot of fun and drive, and each round is different from the previous one. At the same time, the current project is very different from its predecessor and is far from a fact that fans of the "old school" will like it. In terms of PvP mechanics, it is not similar to Call of Duty, Battlefield and Titanfall. Here you need to remember that health is not restored, and the opponent can literally fall on his head.

Note that the graphic component of the game lacks the stars from the sky, but it cannot be called outdated. All modern technologies are in place, the textures are not blurry - this is more than enough. However, graphics will not play the main role. Let's hope that the developers will be able to make not only multiplayer, but also an interesting single player campaign.

Let's go over the plans of the developers a little. They promise that DOOM will be based on three main pillars that will make the game a masterpiece, and not just another passing shooter.

  • The first whale is a mass of evil demons that will appear every now and then at every turn.
  • The second whale is the presence of an impressive arsenal of weapons that will allow you to smear these monsters on the walls into the smallest atoms.
  • The last whale is the pace of the game and action.

The new DOOM will take the player to Mars - the only planet on which scientists hope to find life. Units of the United Aerospace Corporation (UAC) have found unknown strange signs on the planet. In the end, it was they who opened the door to hell.

By the way, despite the presence of a cooperative, it will be possible to complete the game only on your own. This was confirmed by executive producer Marty Statton. However, it will be possible to play custom maps created with the new SnapMap editor with friends. However, there are rumors about the possible appearance of a co-op mode in the game. So let's not discount them.

The developers really want to keep the atmosphere of the series. And the new DOOM will be based on the three pillars described above, making it a bloody hardcore shooter. Initially, the creation of the game was reduced to the fact that it resembled the modern hits of Call of Duty and Battlefield. However, this completely destroyed the unique atmosphere of DOOM. As a result, the creators decided to abandon this direction, because no one is interested in another copy. Development turned towards DOOM - the very game that fans expect. And now the atmosphere is more and more reminiscent of Quake or Painkiller - projects that are closer in spirit.

Let's hope that at the time of the release of the game we will see the same good old DOOM, seasoned with a couple of new chips.

Doom 2016- Action from the first person, where you have to clear the research complex from the demons that filled it.

The gameplay is the most colorful part of the game. The dynamics of the game is designed for the continuous destruction of the enemy, with a short respite to explore the cleared territory, where you can find a lot of useful things. It's not just the same type of shooting, a large number of weapons have alternative firing modes, enemies can be destroyed with a chainsaw, or turned into atoms with a BFG. You can weaken the enemy with the butt and use one of the many methods to kill. There are a variety of power-ups and improvements, as well as some game tests. You won't have time to find cover, or waste it regenerating health. You simply have to hold back the onslaught of insane demons.

The plot of the game is revealed through the means of collecting disks, the information on which is presented in a rather interesting way, so that their search turns into an exciting journey. Otherwise, the plot is quite predictable, but this is doom, the main thing here is to deal with enemies, while receiving satisfaction from their beautiful death.

The game has multiplayer. It is even more dynamic than a single player game, here you will come to the aid, available only in this mode, new types of weapons. As you progress, you will unlock new types of character customization.

The game is worthy of its predecessors, carrying the whole atmosphere. Suitable for those who want to shoot terrible demons and remember the old days.
