What did you learn from military service? Army drill: what drill training teaches in the modern army. How did I end up in the army?

Quaestor 30.01.2011 - 15:01

In the Soviet army, conscripts spent two years of their lives, now 12 months, under a contract for three years. In the Israeli army, for three years. All these are quite long periods during which a soldier undergoes some kind of training.
What does a soldier learn in the army? It is clear that they are taught to shoot and maintain their weapons and walk in formation. But after all, there is not only an external side, there are skills that are taught without fail, as a matter of course, but usually not mentioned anywhere.
Write - who studied what?

Just do not, please, write the general phrases "they teach to be a man" and "they teach life, son" - only practical skills are interesting, the possession of which distinguishes a military man from a civilian one.

In the sense of life, when you eat and sleep and piss together, right?

The ability to find common ground in a closed male team - after all, people are all different, to build relationships with colleagues, to stand up for yourself and a friend somewhere, because there is no mother nearby, collectivism, a sense of responsibility, the ability to achieve goals, to understand people. The distribution and management of your time (as they say now, Time Management), his time, although not enough at first, resource management (if already in a position or sergeant rank), order, accuracy ... you can go on for a long time.

If you passed the training, knowledge in some specialties may be in demand in civilian life. The same radio engineering, aircraft maintenance, minders of all sorts.

Solve many issues on your own (any, from when they wash to privatization). And on a grand civil servant, wait when they do it for you - mom, dad, boss, etc. there are more. In civilian life, there are even courses (training) for this - decide on your own. I’ll add not only to decide, but also to bear responsibility for it. Many (even most) cannot. Of course there are exceptions) our army is not like that.

teach in school, study in university.
the same in the army. no one will teach you, if you want, you will learn.
hence the different assessments of the influence of the army on human life.
someone decided to take advantage and began to study on his own, with the help of the army, of course, he began to develop the skills that he considered necessary.
and someone lived according to the proverb "the day has passed and grace", he will not learn anything anywhere.
neither in the army nor in civilian life.

Yes, I'm not talking about that ... A conscript in the army is not only for show, he is taught something, he must know something in order to serve effectively. If, say, he does not know how to put on footcloths, he wipes his legs in a campaign in blood and cannot walk, in figs such a soldier is needed? Here's what I'm talking about.

Claude 31.01.2011 - 17:16

I can say that yes - they teach footcloths to wind, dress quickly, wear boots, shoot (good or bad), obey elders, follow orders, etc. - for effective service. But I can also say that guys came who knew how to do all this better than they taught in the army. Even more - there were several people (from different conscriptions) who considered being in the army that this was a sanatorium. But there were also those who did not know what hygiene was - one was forcibly washed in a bath after two baths - on a bath day he he hid and appeared when everyone came from the bathhouse. And the funny thing was, he had the profession of a paramedic. So think about what they teach in the army.

landing 31.01.2011 - 17:40

this is taught in training, and skills are already being consolidated in the troops.
the question is kind of unclear.
there is a VUS, there are positions, and then it all depends on the fighter, if it’s a “hose”, then he doesn’t learn anything and doesn’t know how, if not, he will be a normal military specialist in his field.

unecht 02.02.2011 - 19:22

They also constantly drove TB into the head. since the ship is a specific thing, one blunts, everyone drowns.

High.. high relations! (c) PV 😊

P.P. Sharikov 26.02.2011 - 18:40

I didn't really learn anything...

they tried to teach them how to steer a steamboat, so what's the point, I not only steered them in civilian life, but also knew how to manage a little, and there were bigger steamboats ...

they tried to teach them to shoot from a machine gun a little, it didn’t really work out either, because even before the army they had their own weapons, and at that time a bunch of relatives had their own rifled ones, perhaps they taught from a pistol (we had it as a regular weapon of the inspection group) to hit a green cow, in general, it’s probably useful, although before the army I also visited a shooting range, but there was nothing there except for margolin ...

they also taught me how to run and physio so-so, before the army, big tennis and especially football are quite tight ...

the only thing he was taught, perhaps only by combatant, he even walked in some kind of ranks ...

but I don’t regret anything, I went to the army myself and consciously, having not studied one course at a technical school, having completed it after the army in absentia, I myself refused a deferment, having come to the military registration and enlistment office, I strained my connections only to get on a floating steamboat .... precisely floating, for the military paraheds, in my opinion, don’t walk, but swim 😊 the mooring of a military steamer to the pier morally killed me, what 5 people do in the merchant fleet in 20 minutes calmly and unhurriedly, in the navy it’s done in an hour and a half by 25 monkeys with an abundance of obscenities, fuss, and stupid orders...

I think that the army was useful, because I didn’t have to explain or teach anything, but I taught three people quite well how to correct maps and steer the steamer more or less tolerably, they didn’t need it anymore and so much ...

I rather liked it...

IT Director 26.02.2011 - 22:33

ded2008 15.03.2011 - 15:05

I don’t know personally, I didn’t pay anything, but it seems to me that such money is not worth it. when Germany united almost all the Gdrov cars and Soviet Zhiguli, Volga and Mokvich people were simply thrown on the streets. we had cars standing along the fence all over the part, officers dragging them almost dozens. then when the regiment commander got tired of this, he gave the command to the car to remove everything outside. who did not have time, the reconnaissance battalion crushed the cars with sledgehammers. it was cruel. in the union they would have killed for this, but they were silent there. the most terrible punishment for officers and double basses was to leave for the union at 24 o'clock. somehow the orchestra got drunk and didn’t come out to the formation, so the next morning we ran exercises under the lambada. under the threat of being sent to the union, they were ordered to learn it overnight. Lambada for wind instruments and drums is something.

Unfortunately (and maybe fortunately) I can’t voice here the specific points of what the Army taught, but in itself it is an aging (most conservative) bogeyman since the time of Tsar Pea, so I confess to an extreme degree of triviality, namely, that she taught at one time "to be a man" and "taught life" ...

The main practical skill is a military specialty. + items of combat training. Owning which, you, if anything, will be able to immediately get in line and defend your homeland. Otherwise, as I tell our soldiers, while you are studying, they will already bombard us with rockets. This, in my opinion, is the main purpose of military service. And not like right now they have taken the fashion to say: why should I serve, waste time, what will this give me in my later life? Part of us is on combat duty. And if the guys are normal and intelligent, then almost all of them step into the database, or become sergeants - squad leaders (but this is not immediately). And the fences are vacuumed and the snowdrifts are leveled by those who do not want to serve, but are looking for how to rummage around while the rest are on duty for them.

In Russia, the beginning of the autumn conscription of 2018 is approaching. It will run from October 1st to December 31st. Children from different parts of the country will once again wear military uniforms. Among them will be residents of the Zanevsky urban settlement. Kudrovites Maxim Vizmitin and Alexander Murzakhanov returned from the army last year. Former conscript soldiers told the Zanevsky Vestnik journalist about their service and what it taught them.

Maxim Vizmitin was drafted into the armed forces in July 2016. The young man admitted that he really wanted to get into the Airborne Forces or the GRU special forces. His desire was taken into account during the distribution - the young man spent a year in the guards parachute regiment in the Central region of Russia. “I thought that it was these troops that would please me, and I did not lose! They say that the everyday life of a soldier is boring and monotonous, but I did not notice this. In the army, constant sports activities, shooting, airborne training, field trips, guard duty and outfits did not let you get bored, ”he said. The service made Maxim more patient and restrained, taught him to value friendship and, before acting, to think over every decision. In the military unit, the young man found comrades, with many of whom he still keeps in touch. Memories of the airborne troops evoke positive emotions in him. The highlight was the long-awaited first parachute jump. “It is not for nothing that they say that the army makes a man out of a boy. It teaches you to make decisions on your own and take responsibility for them, tempers character and develops physically,” Maxim shared.

Alexander Murzakhanov served in the Vsevolozhsk region. Before being sent to the radio engineering military unit, he took a course as a young soldier. There, for a month, the soldiers mastered drill training, attended theoretical and physical classes. According to the young man, in the ranks of the armed forces he became more sociable, and he managed to find a common language with colleagues and officers. “In the army, I learned how to quickly and effectively solve problems. I have a mathematical mind, and I'm used to thinking for a long time about how best to solve a problem. There is no time for this in the office. There is an order - it is necessary to carry out. This is how the male core is formed, ”Kudrovchanin noted. Over the past year, Alexander especially remembered the summer exercises. On them, he, along with his comrades, set up a camp: he dug trenches, built guard houses and placed defensive structures. And then the order to relocate came, and the guys had to quickly dismantle everything. Now, at the recollection of this incident, a smile appears on the face of the young man. A former conscript soldier advised conscripts to keep cleanliness, always keep their word and not be afraid to be themselves.

The most important problem of military education in Russia has become the modernization of the officer training system. Changes were made to the training and education of cadets of military schools. But new sections are still being added, the list of planned topics is constantly expanding. At the same time, there are a lot of unnecessary things in the programs, while many questions remain outside the scope of training.

Reasonable initiative should not be punished

Not a single military training program provides for the development of initiative in future officers, the ability to generate their own solutions. Of course, you need to know the fundamental laws, principles and rules of warfare, but very often commanders in battle have to make decisions relying solely on their quick wits.

The learning process is also an art that requires talented people

Close attention has been paid to the education of the initiative and independence of officers since the formation of the regular Russian army. The officers were given the initiative in actions in accordance with the "case" and "usual" of the enemy. For "non-reasoning" in battle, the officer was severely punished. It was especially emphasized that in the military Charter "orders are written, but there are no times and cases," therefore, in military operations one must have "reasoning", in accordance with the circumstances, and not adhere to the Charter, "like a blind wall."

Unfortunately, officers began to gradually lose these abilities. " After the war, at operational-tactical exercises and exercises, it was customary to say that the decision of a commander either met or did not meet the requirements of the charter, - testifies army general Gareev. - But a solution to a specific problem cannot and should not comply with the statutes or other theoretical provisions. It can be vital only if it takes into account all the shades of the prevailing conditions, corresponds to the specific situation and ensures the most effective implementation of the task.

The most terrible enemy of rational military art is template and dogmatism. The power of military art is in creativity, innovation, originality, and, consequently, in the unexpectedness of decisions and actions for the enemy ».

The future officer needs fundamental knowledge of the history of military art. But not for elevating it to the rank of dogma, but for understanding and creative application to modern conditions. Although the classical theories of war developed by Sun Tzu, Vegetius, Machiavelli, Clausewitz, Svechin, Garth require adaptation to the current era, they remain fundamentally valid. The logic of war and strategic thinking is as universal and infinite as human nature itself.

Cadets of military schools should receive such knowledge that would enable them to master any military specialty in a short time. Given that the concept of warfare and military equipment is changing dramatically over the course of 5-10 years, a future officer must be able to learn and acquire knowledge on his own.

An example of this was shown by Alexander Suvorov, who by the age of 20 independently studied and thoroughly knew all the campaigns of Macedon, Hannibal, Caesar, Conde and other then-famous commanders. Later, he mastered seven foreign languages, including Turkish and Finnish, perfectly mastered mathematics and other sciences. And he never lost a single battle.

In a military university, teachers should do everything possible so that the cadets completely forget their school preparation in the form of “coaching” for passing the exam. Future officers must be taught to think independently, and not to train them to be pedantic, as is done at school. Cadets must be oriented towards independent search for the necessary solution to problematic issues, and not on the ability to find the desired option from the set presented.

Great help in the development of creative thinking is provided by the study of natural sciences, and above all mathematics and computer science. At the heart of all concepts of the armed struggle of the future lies the use of information technology. Therefore, without knowledge of computer science, without the ability to apply algorithmic methods for solving problems of optimal planning and control, the formation of a future commander is impossible. Each student must perform calculations using spreadsheets, work with databases, create algorithms and write programs in high-level programming languages.

An important role in the formation of the future commander is played by the study of the humanities, primarily pedagogy and psychology. The commander needs the ability to convince people.

Combat, political and physical training

Of paramount importance is combat training. The main teaching method should be visual, not verbal, as in most military schools at the present time. The main training time should be devoted to showing and practicing practical actions - it is better to see once than to hear a hundred times, but even better - to do once than to see a hundred times.

For high-quality training, constant training of cadets in military units is necessary. At present, the internship is carried out only in the last year of training of cadets. As a result, after graduating from college, officers need additional training and adaptation to the specifics of service in a military unit. Internships in military units at the end of each course at a military university will not only contribute to better training of future officers, but will also allow commanders of military units to pre-select a reserve to fill vacant officer positions.

In addition, the close interaction of military universities with military units makes it possible to solve many problems in the training and education of cadets. Unfortunately, most military universities do not use this huge potential.

Equally important is political training. Throughout the history of the Russian army, they tried to involve officers in politics, to win over to their side, based on a variety of beliefs and beliefs.

The tsarist authorities forbade officers to turn to politics. During the production of officers, a subscription was given with the following content (its text remained unchanged until 1917): “ I, the undersigned, give this signature to the effect that I do not belong to any Masonic lodges and secret societies, Dumas, Councils and others, under whatever names they may exist, and will not continue to belong, and that not only to members of these societies by obligation, through an oath or word of honour, he was not, and he did not attend and did not even know about them, and through conspiracies outside the lodges, Doom, Administration, both about societies and about members, he also knew nothing and obligations without forms and did not take any oaths».

Such oaths had a detrimental effect on the political training of officers and were one of the reasons for the confusion of the officer corps during the events of February-October 1917. The political demarcation of the officers became possible only as a result of their political ignorance, and their practical actions were often determined by the prevailing political situation, and not by ideological positions.

« The pursuit of leaving the army out of politics and public opinion now seems to be nothing more than the fruit of clerical sophistication.", - stated the tsarist major general Vladimir Voronetsky, who until July 1916 headed the headquarters of the 13th army corps.

The role of the political training of the officer corps is determined by the following circumstances.

First of all, the army is an instrument of power. The officer corps cannot wander in political darkness: it must be politically enlightened and involved in those state tasks that the authorities are solving. An officer must be an active bearer of the state and national idea.

Secondly, the political preparation of the war, the political aspect of the war itself require a high political qualification not only of the highest, but also of senior and junior officers.

Thirdly, war itself requires the ability of an officer to manage and direct the energy of the masses to achieve victory, and without ideology it is impossible to cope with this task.

Fourth The attempts of political parties to use officers in the struggle for power require not only political vigilance, but also political foresight, the ability to see the common good of the state behind the actions of individual parties, groups and individuals.

Fifth, officers should be considered as the most important personnel reserve of the state.

Therefore, the most important direction in the training of cadets of military schools should be political training. At the same time, the political training of cadets is something more than just the sum of classes and seminars. This is a complex and multifaceted methodological complex that allows solving many issues of becoming a future officer. Simply informing about political issues is only half the battle. It is necessary to enter into a discussion on controversial provisions. Only then will the future officer become competent in making political decisions and be able to convince and educate conscripts who may be members of various political parties and movements.

Now the physical health of Russian citizens has declined significantly. The experience of the Chechen wars showed the weak level of physical fitness of many officers of the Armed Forces. It is not worth talking about the level of training of soldiers at all. So in military schools it is necessary to address the issues of strengthening and maintaining the health of cadets. The inclusion of martial arts in the curriculum would be of great benefit. There are such programs in China, Korea, Japan. We also had such an experience, when, for example, boxing was included in the program of the Suvorov schools, and jujutsu - in the cadet schools.

The study of martial arts also contributes to the education of composure, attentiveness, the ability not to lose sight of the details, to penetrate into the plans of the enemy. The methods of psychophysical education used in martial arts are also used to develop certain moral and volitional qualities, self-regulation skills that allow one to withstand the stresses and overloads of military service. Martial arts contribute to the development of activity, purposefulness.

We are taught by those whom we have taught ourselves

The decisive role in the training of future officers belongs to the leadership. Unfortunately, the Department of Education of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, when it was headed by Ekaterina Priezzheva, did a lot for the collapse. Many military academies and universities were liquidated, and the teaching staff was reduced by seven times. We switched to a three-level Bologna system, which led to a decrease in the quality of training (by the way, Defense Minister General of the Army Sergei Shoigu has already canceled it).

The most important role in the training of future officers is played by teachers of military schools. At the same time, the level of training of teachers themselves has dropped sharply in recent years. This is due to the lack of combat experience of some teachers, and sometimes even military service. One of my acquaintances from the military school went through the “combat path” from lieutenant to colonel, sitting at the same table in the same room and teaching cadets the regulations of the Armed Forces. Another colleague from the Military Academy, when writing his Ph.D. thesis on the operation of a combat missile system, went to the Central Museum of the Armed Forces to see how this complex looks live.

So it makes sense to rotate teaching officers and officers from the troops, sending the first on a long trip to the troops to update and replenish knowledge, and second the most trained officers from the troops to military schools for teaching. For example, in the United States after the Gulf War, officers who gained combat experience were sent to teach at the National Defense University, military colleges and training centers in Forts Leavenworth, Knox, Benin and others.

In our civilian universities, more time is now devoted to studying the fundamental sciences, and highly specialized disciplines are included in the program of special courses and seminars. This contributes to the fact that each student can make a choice in the study of special disciplines, in accordance with their abilities and inclinations, which gives graduates a basis for mastering any specialty in the profile of the university.

Such experience, I think, is useful for the Ministry of Defense. An increase in time for studying the fundamental sciences at the expense of a certain reduction in highly specialized disciplines and a more flexible distribution of them would contribute to the rapid growth in the number of military specialists employed in various fields of activity.

This weekend, more than twelve thousand recruits across the country took the military oath and swore allegiance to the motherland. Ahead of the recruits is a year and a half of army hardening. In this regard, "NG" asked: What does military service teach?

Vladimir BAZANOV, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee of the House of Representatives on National Security:
- Taking the military oath is a significant event not only for a young man, but for his entire family. It is not for nothing that from three to ten people, his relatives and friends, come to each recruit for the oath. I believe that a real man is obliged to serve in the Armed Forces and other military formations, receive a military registration specialty and be ready, if necessary, to defend his family, his home and his state with weapons in his hands. Therefore, the current mixed principle of manning the army is the most optimal, and it must be preserved. The country has carried out the optimization of the Armed Forces, every year new and modernized models of military equipment are adopted, exercises of the territorial defense troops are conducted. All this contributes to the strengthening of national security and the defense capability of the state.

Nikolai FINSKY, veteran, participant of the Battle of Kursk, Minsk:
- Service in the army is an obligatory element in the upbringing of a young man. And not only because it aims a person at the most important thing - the defense of their homeland. Military service forms many very useful qualities that will be useful to a person throughout his life: diligence, respect for other people, the ability to restore and maintain order in everything. A person who has undergone military hardening perceives reality more sensibly, less susceptible to any everyday difficulties and other annoying little things. So military service is an extremely useful thing both for the state, and for society, and for its particular citizen.

Sergey Rubets, captain:
- The army gives a lot to young people. This is not only drill training, the ability to handle weapons and protect military facilities - these skills will be more useful to those who want to work in the police or in the security department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Belarus in the future. Soldiers also receive good technical training. In addition, the formation of the personality of a fighter takes place in the army. Young people come here as green youths, and already during the service they learn responsibility, self-control, composure, undergo ideological training and begin to understand the political processes taking place in the country and the world. It is no longer a boy who leaves the army, but a real man, a good specialist and a worthy citizen.

Ivan Pukhnarevich, private:
- I have very good impressions from the army. There were practically no difficulties - I got used to army life in a week. When we took the oath, the commander said that in the army we have time to take care of ourselves. And indeed it is. Here I not only made new friends, but also became more disciplined. The army teaches a lot, and the acquired skills, I think, will be useful in civilian life. In the driver training classes, we study the structure of the car. Previously, I could only look under the hood, but now I can not only drive, but also fix the car.

Irina ORLOVA, mother of a serviceman:
- I always knew that serving in the army for every guy is a useful thing, it tempers character, disciplines. Although we don’t have hot spots, we were very worried about our son: how he would adapt to new conditions, how he would find a common language in an unusual environment. Much of the unrest subsided when a letter arrived signed by the company commander, which even included a mobile phone number. This has never happened before in the military. Thanks to his attentive attitude, his son's long-standing passion for the drum has become a very useful thing - the drum roll will now accompany the marches of the company. On the oath at the training center for the training of ensigns and junior specialists in Pechi near Borisov, they were convinced that everything was in order with his son. He has not lost his natural benevolence. And a military uniform suits him.

Polina ANTIPOVA, student, Baranovichi district:
- To be honest, before I didn’t take all these grandmother’s instructions about the army (“a young man must serve, or this is not a man”) seriously. Well, the time is different now, society has other interests, and we ourselves are a peaceful country, right? But now everything has changed: my young man left to serve, the other day he took the oath. His mother and I went to see him in Maryina Gorka, where we decided just this Saturday that we would get married immediately after his demobilization. And most importantly, I realized how great it is to be a soldier's bride. Endure separation, test our feelings for strength and become the wife of a real man. Therefore, I would answer your question as follows: military service teaches the most important thing - to make the right decision in any life situation.

"The army teaches that the initiative is punishable": a soldier about serving in the Navy

The story of a recent conscript about the service in the Navy.

On Tuesday, November 15, Russia celebrates Conscript Day. On this occasion, the 360 TV channel asked a recent conscript and a native of the Ramensky district about the service. The young man told me what to take with you to the military registration and enlistment office, what the army teaches, and how you can get to the Northern Fleet from the Moscow region. For obvious reasons, the name and surname of the interlocutor are not indicated.

How did I end up in the army?

I joined the army at the age of 22: I had to get a job, but without a military man (military ID - approx. “360”), they didn’t take me where I wanted. And I decided that it was enough to run away from the army and I went myself. Moreover, at the local military registration and enlistment office they tearfully promised me that I would serve near the house and that I would be able to go home on “leave” (dismissal - approx. “360”).

They took us to the distribution center (distributor - approx. "360") - I really don’t even remember where it was - and they asked where I wanted to go, to the Airborne Forces or the Navy. Since I am afraid of heights and the Airborne Forces are not for me, I chose the morflot. For health and for all other parameters, I went there. I was told in the end - Severomorsk (the city is located on the Kola Peninsula, 25 km northeast of Murmansk - approx. "360"). At first I tried to find such a city in the Moscow region, remembering the promises of military commissars about serving near my home, but, of course, there is no settlement near the capital with that name. Which, in general, is logical. After two days on the train, it became obvious that I definitely didn’t get into the “ridge” home for the weekend.

What to bring to work

I took with me only a razor, and a disposable one, because they told me that everything is taken there first. And he also took a cheap phone so that it would not be a shame if they steal or take it away. Well, documents, toothpaste, a brush and shorts with socks just in case. And he didn't take anything else. Those who took a lot of things with them, everything was sorted out at the "distribution" (distributor - approx. "360").

"Training"

We didn't have a tutorial as such. Although this is strange: when they are sent to serve on a ship, then the first six months you need to go through some kind of training. We had a course for a young fighter for a month - it was more like physical training. But in fact, we joined the process of subordination, there was “fizuha”, we were constantly running, marching. Then there is the service itself. Like on a podium, we all stood together in front of the commanders of the ships, and we were chosen, “bought”, in general. I got on a large landing ship "George the Victorious", which at that time was in the dock. There we from the first days began to "plow".

Where does the service start?

It was when we were changed from the green uniform of soldier's clothing into sailors, changed into naval uniforms, that I ended up in the dock. There, at first, we repaired the ship, about two weeks. Then there was our first exit to the sea - we went to Severomorsk, where there was a brigade of landing ships. At first there were test exits - to see how everything was repaired.

It is worth noting that there was a polar day, and before the army, I mainly led an active lifestyle at night. And it was quite tense for two months not to see the night at all. Because they were in the barracks. But on the ship it is more comfortable - inside the ship, of course, it is dark. Then we were sent to Baltiysk for the exercises "West-2013" with the Belarusians. Our task was to land infantry fighting vehicles (infantry fighting vehicles - approx. "360") from the water so that they would parachute, reach the ground, and there they already had their own strategic tasks. We all worked for a very long time. And then we were already sent to other places - for example, to Novorossiysk. On the way there, we stopped in Portugal for a couple of days. This was the first time in the history of Russian landing ships that we were received by a Portuguese port. There we stocked up on water and fuel.

Duties of sailors

In fact, when I went to the ship, I did not understand at all what could be done there. I thought: the sea, everything on deck, the sun, everything is festive, excellent. But nothing like that: when the ship is at sea, everyone has their own duties. For example, I had the position of a miner. The landing corral performs several functions. The first is the transportation of infantry fighting vehicles or tanks during combat time, the second is the dropping of mines into the water in order to control the approaches to the coast locally. But since we did not carry any hostilities, I did not even have a material part. And so I did everything. They signed me up there as a clerk because I'm good with computers.

In the sea itself, alarms were constantly practiced. We worked out the task of flooding the ship and getting fire. An alarm sounds (usually it was during a break in the shift), everyone takes their combat posts and each performs a certain function. All this for each sailor is recorded in the book "Combat Number".

Life on the ship and food

The ship has its own diet, everything is prescribed according to GOST. But it often happened that something came to an end: just when we were going to Baltiysk, we almost ran out of provisions and we ate buckwheat for breakfast, lunch and dinner. And yet, unlike the army, sailors eat four times a day. There is also evening tea, roughly speaking. When we went to sea, we baked bread ourselves. This is logical: bread will not last more than three days. There was even a shift position - a baker who baked bread all night for the entire staff of 140 people.

Relations within the team

Everything is simple here. We, like everywhere else, have a so-called vertical of power. That is, the commander of the brigade receives an order from the supreme commander in chief - he ordered all the commanders of the ships. They pass orders on to their officers, officers to midshipmen, midshipmen to contractors, and contractors to us. And we no longer have anyone to throw it off, because we are unfortunate conscripts. As such, hazing, in principle, was not - that we came, that someone was six months earlier. We are conscripts, and it’s not that they wipe their feet on us, but we no longer have anyone to throw off any task. This forced us to unite and act together.

The army is the school of life. Or not?

This is a double-edged sword. If I had not served all this time, but worked, then, of course, I would have won more financially and in everything else. But in the army there is no mom and dad, no relatives, there you rely on yourself and learn to live in a team. The army taught me, at least, that the initiative is punishable. And that's it. The only thing that bothered me a little was that, in principle, there was nothing to do on a large scale in the army. Due to this, the principle works there: it is not the result that is important, the process is important. You have to kill time. Sometimes it reached the point of absurdity, when we painted the hull of the ship in one color, then in another. These are tasks that are not rational and illogical.
