In one of his letters to Maxim Gorky, Leonid Andreev admitted with deep bitterness:

“... when I drink, I become real crazy. It’s as if I’m falling into some kind of black hole, from which I either come out safely, or broken, bruised ... When I drink two or three glasses, I can’t stop drinking to the end ... That’s the grief that drunkenness almost from the beginning it was not in my will ...

And for a long time I have been fighting vodka, and for a long time the struggle was unsuccessful, since vodka was supported by the nonsense of my life. Only from the beginning of my writing and meeting you, the struggle became more successful, and gradually, step by step, vodka began to be squeezed out of my life ... On the one hand, writing, in which I found the meaning of my personal life, on the other, two influences - what you and Shurino have done is that vodka has become a rare, dying accident; fear began to pass, hope and joy of liberation appeared ...

My God! All my life I fought with this enemy, vodka, he took away my health, strength, a lot of soul and finally a friend - just at the time when I gradually began to win and was already at the crossroads to sobriety. Without knowing it, Alexey rendered me a service, perhaps the last one, but also the largest, because when vodka begins to take away the respect of honest people, then this is no longer a disease, even a serious one, but a matter of life. In a reply letter, Maxim Gorky wrote:

“... You are my dear friend, in vain you explained so long what I understand and without your help it is terribly clear ...

Do you know what tormented me terribly after this story and why I can’t see you to this day? It is a feeling of pity and disgust. If I saw the woman I love being raped by a lecher and a scoundrel, I would feel the same way, probably ...

You call me big brother. Yes, I'm older than you, I have more experience, but that's why I'm older. But you have more talent and intelligence. The harder it is for me to see you in captivity of lack of will.

From this accursed disease, a fear of something was born in you, a kind of fear, incomprehensible to me. I am not afraid of anything and would passionately like to convey to you my courage, I have it. What to do, how to inspire you with the need to be treated? I'm lost. And I see it is possible. Listen, try all poisons, all acids, fire - if necessary - but - free yourself from humiliation, from this lack of will! ..

I love you, not only as a writer - a comrade - it doesn't matter - I love your rebellious soul, believe me. You are a huge talent, you have a great future. And you are in the power of this dark force, you so easily and simply destroy many forces, those that keep the free spirit of man in a close captivity of prejudices. This, brother, is terrible. Here is a tragedy!

But Leonid Andreev could not find the strength in himself to overcome the fatal addiction. He died at the age of 48.

This is undoubtedly a tragedy. But what is it all the same - a disease or a bad habit?

Historical sources testify that intoxicating drinks were known for many centuries before our era, they served as a means of intoxicating people and were used in various religious cults and during holidays. In the 6th-7th centuries in the Arab countries they learned how to get pure alcohol from wine and gave it the name "al-kohl", which means "intoxicating".

At different times it received different names: in medieval Europe it was first called "aqua vita", or "water of life". But in the future, the troubles that he brought made him call it "water of grief" and "water of death", because people noticed the intoxicating property of alcohol, its ability to push people to unreasonable, often criminal actions that poison the human body.

But people also noticed another property of nicotine - in case of mild poisoning, it dulls pain somewhat, gives swagger and facilitates communication, is more indifferent to grief, loss, resentment.

Even in the last century, doctors recommended small doses of alcohol for “appetite”, for “raising strength”. However, this misconception has been refuted by numerous scientific studies. In 1915, at the Pirogov Congress of Doctors, the following resolution was passed:

"one. There is not a single organ of the human body that has not been subjected to the destructive effects of alcohol.

2. Alcohol does not have any such effect, the results of which could not be achieved safer and more reliably by other means.

3. There is no such condition in which it is necessary to prescribe alcohol.

4. The need to exclude alcohol from the list of drugs is the result of many scientific observations and accurate laboratory studies.

So there is no benefit. So pleasure? But isn't this “pleasure” too expensive for a person and society? Academician I. P. Pavlov rightly said that alcohol brings grief much more than joy. This applies not only to the destruction of health, but also to the social evil caused by alcohol (the destruction of the family, an increase in crime, accidents, etc.).

That is why with regard to large doses of strong alcoholic beverages and smoking, the opinion of leading narcologists and most people in general is unanimous: both of them bring unconditional harm.

The authors of this work share the point of view of Academician V. M. Bekhterev, who strongly condemned the allegations, especially from doctors, about the possibility of drinking small doses of alcohol, since this cannot bring benefits to anyone, but inevitably weakens the fight against. We are confident that in the future, when people learn to be healthy, harmful traditions will die out, and even on holidays, at celebrations, they will not drink alcohol, because a mentally healthy, balanced, reasonable and cultured person will not strive for artificial means of excitement: he will be cheerful and sociable without wine and cigarettes.

Drinking people are suicidal, dooming themselves and their loved ones to suffering and grief, systematically destroying their bodies, bringing their own death closer.

From the first drink to chronic alcoholism, the distance is not as great as it seems.

Before drunkenness becomes a disease, it is, of course, nothing but lack of will and licentiousness, if only because alcoholism is always preceded by the conscious use of alcoholic beverages, and addiction to them arises gradually and imperceptibly with their systematic use. Professor A. A. Portnov writes: “Drunkenness is a path to alcoholism, more or less long, but the only one and, unfortunately, true - because it takes the form of a “friend” that makes life easier and brighter.”

So, individual drinking, then drunkenness, then alcoholism is a serious disease, the main feature of which is that it occurs at the initiative of the person himself.

"Humanity could achieve incredible success if it could be sober..." (Goethe).

The element of self-destruction

Alcoholism is like a "fifth column" - a force that destroys the body from the inside.

Let's start with the main headquarters of the human body - the brain and nervous system. Higher nervous activity consists of a variety of relationships between excitation and inhibition. The significance of inhibition for the cells of the cerebral cortex is extremely great: it plays a protective, restrictive role.

Alcohol blocks the inhibition process. A person "without brakes" becomes unnaturally excited, cheeky, talkative. He has a deceptive feeling of ease of movement and thinking. In this state, he can commit rash acts, brag, blurt out something that should not be. In this regard, the origin of the well-known expression "In wine is the truth" is interesting. The bottom line is that in order to eat away the secret, to find out the truth, it is enough to get a person drunk.

When the functions of various parts of the brain that control certain processes are disrupted. So, for example, even small doses of alcohol cause impaired visual acuity, hearing, the ability to distinguish colors, navigate in space (by the way, this is one of the main causes of transport accidents).

Animal studies have shown that the brain changes that occur after 1-3 months of systematic alcohol intake are still somewhat reversible. With a longer period of time, changes in brain cells do not disappear even after the cessation of alcohol.

The study of the brain showed significant changes in its structure, and above all, the destruction and death of a huge number of nerve cells. The vessels of the brain also change dramatically, their walls become brittle, and sclerosis develops.

There are frequent cases of mental illness, the so-called alcoholic psychosis: "delirious tremens", alcoholic "delusions of jealousy", alcoholic depression, etc.

Diseases such as epilepsy, schizophrenia, hysteria, psychopathy, neurasthenia, when alcohol is consumed, are much more severe and cannot be treated. And finally, the most severe consequence of chronic alcoholism is dementia.

Under the influence of alcohol on the body, parts of the brain are especially deeply affected - regulators of the activity of many systems and processes of the body: cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, urination, regulation of body temperature, wakefulness and sleep, appetite and thirst, metabolism and endocrine glands.

Getting into the general circle of blood circulation, alcohol acts primarily on the circulatory organs, the cardiovascular system. Small doses cause an increase in cardiac activity, large doses inhibit it, the walls of the vessels that feed the heart thicken, their nutrition is disturbed, the muscles weaken.

Statistics have shown that cardiovascular disease in people who drink alcohol is 22 times more common than in non-drinkers.

In people who systematically consume alcohol, obesity of the heart is observed, and not only in obese people, but also in underweight people.

The short-term vasodilatation under the influence of alcohol and the feeling of warmth from the rush of blood caused many to believe that alcoholic drinks help to warm up and reduce pressure. But the expansion of blood vessels and the decrease in pressure are too short-lived, followed by an even stronger and longer spasm.

Alcohol is irritating to the digestive tract. In low concentrations, it increases the secretion of gastric juice and causes appetite. However, a higher concentration of alcohol causes a decrease in gastric secretion, irritation and inflammation of the stomach lining.

Irritation caused by alcohol in the digestive tract leads to various diseases. Most often, chronic gastritis develops, which is often accompanied by colitis, hemorrhoids, and a sharp exacerbation of stomach ulcers. All these diseases, the symptoms of which are heartburn, nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, constipation, etc., aggravated by alcohol, occur in a more severe form, leading to complete disability.

According to statistics, diseases of the digestive system in people who drink alcohol are 18 times more common than in non-drinkers.

As a result of the systematic use of alcohol, chronic hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver develop. According to medical statistics, among patients with cirrhosis of the liver, half of the people constantly drink alcohol. The reduced excretion of bile acids by the liver observed under the action of alcohol affects digestion, aggravating the development of diseases of the digestive tract. Alcohol also has an irritating effect on the kidneys: in small doses it causes increased urination, in large doses it can lead to severe kidney damage.

Alcohol has a detrimental effect on the respiratory system. Hypothermia in a healthy sober person can relatively rarely cause pneumonia, while the occurrence of pneumonia in alcoholics is observed very often and, as a rule, proceeds severely and gives complications. It is known that alcohol has a destructive effect on lung tissue, causing emphysema, purulent bronchitis, pneumosclerosis and other respiratory diseases. In people addicted to alcohol, these diseases occur 4 times more often than in non-drinkers.

Drinkers often experience sexual disorders, the most common of which is impotence (sexual weakness) and usually, as a consequence, delusions of jealousy.

Under the action of alcohol, two phases are noted. The first is characterized by increased sexual desire. That is why some people find it necessary to drink for "courage", to increase their male power, but, alas, this ultimately leads to the opposite result. The second phase begins, characterized by a sharp inhibition of sexual desire.

The toxic effect of alcohol is expressed not only in the effect on the cells that produce the male sex hormone, which ensures the sexual function of a man, but phenomena similar to those observed during castration occur. Many alcoholics begin the so-called feminization of appearance, which is expressed in the female type of fat distribution and a decrease in facial hair (like eunuchs).

In women, violations in the sexual sphere under the influence of alcohol are observed mainly of a mental nature, and they usually manifest themselves most strongly in the menopause. Alcohol degradation in both men and women is manifested in a decrease in intelligence, memory, strong-willed qualities, loss of former interests, sometimes in aggressive behavior. One thinker said: "There is nothing more beautiful than a woman, but there is nothing more disgusting than a woman when she is drunk."

Women are more likely to drink heavily, the period between binges is usually shorter than in men, and they last longer. The delusions of jealousy, characteristic of men, are almost never observed, but thoughts of death and suicide attempts often arise. Treatment in a woman is more difficult than in a man.

Alcohol contributes to the progressive course of almost all diseases, reducing the body's resistance to infectious diseases.

Alcohol is considered a factor causing anemia with a drop in hemoglobin in the blood to 45-40%.

Under the influence of alcohol, the function of the endocrine glands, metabolism in general, and most of all, the metabolism of vitamins are inhibited.

Under the influence of alcohol consumption, the appearance changes: premature decrepitude, wrinkles, baldness, tooth loss, unsteady gait, trembling hands, a "gray nose", blue-purple cheeks, dotted with a network of dilated vessels, slovenliness in clothes appear.

With each libation, the transition to working capacity, to the revival of interests becomes more and more difficult, more difficult to shake off impotence, indifference to oneself, to others, to the whole world. It's getting harder to see yourself from the outside.

With age, the character changes dramatically. People become selfish, lose their intellect and the ability to take a critical attitude towards themselves, are easily excitable, picky, completely unbearable for relatives and friends, and are often very aggressive towards them.

Intoxication according to its action is divided into light, medium and heavy - an indicator is the content of alcohol in the blood. I. A. Sytinsky gives the following diagram of the degree of intoxication.

The duration of alcohol poisoning and its severity depend on the dose and health status. On average, in the body of a healthy person, 7-10 g of drunk alcohol is oxidized (burns out) in 1 hour. Doses of 60-80 g of alcohol (150-200 g of vodka) are excreted from the body in 8-10 hours. When using large doses (0.5 liters of vodka), the oxidation process lasts up to a day or more.

(0.5 l of beer, 150-200 g of wine, 30-40 g of vodka or cognac) human behavior changes little, although many already have slight dizziness, a tendency to overestimate their capabilities. A person becomes complacent, life's troubles seem small to him, the environment appears in a "pink light". A motor disorder usually does not manifest itself, although there is already a violation of the exact coordination of movements, the function of attention, psychomotor skills (errors occur when performing complex movements).

With an average degree of intoxication, the same phenomena occur, but in a more severe form, and fun, complacency are already leaving, many have tearfulness, irritability, resentment, a tendency to quarrel, and the feeling of danger and responsibility for their actions decreases.

Severe intoxication is characterized by a sharp violation of the motor system, orientation in the environment.

With mild and moderate intoxication, mainly inhibition processes are disturbed, with severe intoxication, excitatory processes in the cerebral cortex are also inhibited, and this manifests itself in lethargy, drowsiness, and, finally, in deep sleep, close to the state of anesthesia.

The Arab thinker of the 13th century Abulo-Faraj compares human intoxication with the images of animals: first, a peacock, then a monkey, then a lion, and finally a pig. Perhaps this really corresponds to the behavior of a person when intoxicated.

A person in a state of intoxication can be dangerous for himself and others, but the most terrible danger is addiction to alcohol as a drug, an imperceptible transition from holiday drinking to everyday drunkenness and alcoholism.

What are the internal mechanisms of intoxication? How is a "vicious circle" created that leads from "harmless" friendly drinking to a severe mental illness - alcoholism?

After drinking alcohol, alcohol enters the bloodstream and is carried throughout the body with its current. In the brain, alcohol and its decay products grossly interfere with metabolic processes.

Meanwhile, any biological system has a limit of functionality, followed by a stage of exhaustion. In chronic alcoholism, the compensatory capabilities of the brain are gradually exhausted, not only exhaustion develops, but also a perversion of the activity of its structures, the last stage of alcoholism begins to form, characterized by mental disorders and personality degradation, alcoholic psychoses, liver degeneration, and untimely death begin. There is no other end if a person does not find the strength in himself to stop drinking in time.

Like every disease, alcoholism should be treated, but prevention is better and easier to do in the early stages.

So far, there are no means that determine the persons most prone to alcoholism, however, the observation of the psychotherapist of the narcological hospital S. V. Yazdovskaya deserves attention, which determines those prone to alcoholism by how a person behaves during a feast. Here, it turned out, there is a whole set of symptoms. Before they sit down at the table, the “sick” will gather two or three drinks in the kitchen for a glass. When a toast is made, remind the speaker about the rules. Everyone left the table, talking in anticipation of the next dish - he arranges a small "get-together" with vodka And so the whole evening. By the end of the celebration, despite the rather strong intoxication, he will certainly offer to drink the "staff on the path" ...

However, those who are prone to such behavior do not yet think that they are sick, although their fate can be predicted with certainty - in two, maximum three years they are “ready” for treatment, if ... If they do not try to bring their behavior into norm, do not give up drinking alcohol at all.

GREEN SNAKE - was one of the main gods of the ancient Russian pantheon. He was considered the patron of fun and winemaking. The name comes from the tradition of the ancient Slavs to drink wine. And yet, on the basis of the folk-poetic turnover, wine is green, where the wine is named after the color of the product from which it is made. One of the versions is that this wine was infused with herbs. The name comes not from the color "green", but from "potion" (and most likely not "green wine", but "green wine")

    Found this

Because fever comes after taking 1 liter of serpent)

by itself. what is chuck norris)

  • There is a version that the version that the image of the green serpent was inspired by the hallucinations of alcoholics, as well as the biblical text: Do not look at the wine ... later, like a snake, it will bite.

Option: in Russia, “red wine” and “white wine” have been known since the 15th century (“otstno” - sour, dry and “smearno” - sweet, dessert), and the adjective “green”, as evidenced by the “Historical and Etymological Dictionary ” P. Chernykh, appeared in Russian only in the 16th century, when the term “green wine” was already widespread. The fact is that this wine was ... “boiled”, bread, that’s how vodka was called until the middle of the 19th century (as an independent word “vodka” appears in the meaning of “strong alcoholic drink” only in dictionaries of the late 19th - early 20th centuries). And the “green wine” known to us from fairy tales and epics (otherwise - “zelenitsa”, “zelenets”, “pernicious potion”) is, as the historian V. Pokhlebkin clarifies in the book “The History of Vodka”, a special type of vodka flavored with spicy, aromatic or bitter herbs, and its name comes from the Old Slavonic “potion” - “grass, cereal”. There was also “bitter wine” – vodka infused with wormwood, birch, oak, willow, and alder buds. However, the literal “bitterness” was completely lost at the end of the 19th century, and “bitter” turned (due to the etymological connection of the words bitter, grief and burn) into a drink that brings a bitter, unhappy life, one that is drunk from grief or from green anguish. And they cry with burning tears from intoxicating (“hot”, or rather “flammable”, that is, capable of burning like Ukrainian “gorilka”) drinks.
Realizing the harm of alcohol, our ancestors began to call wine a green snake. For example, in Russian epics, the phrase "green wine" is sometimes found ("he got drunk with green wine").
The word serpent enters this turnover in this form, since it is believed that alcohol tempts a person in the same way as the devil-tempter (in the form of a snake) tempts Eve.

"During the flying saucer "sightings" in the 1950s, the term little green men came into popular usage in reference to aliens. In one classic case, the Kelly-Hopkinsville sighting on August 21, 1955, two rural Kentucky men described a supposed encounter with 3-4 foot (1 m) tall greenish, somewhat humanoid-looking aliens. Many newspaper articles used the term little green men in writing up the story."

If you don’t speak English, in short it means that it came into use in the 50s of the 20th century, when reports of alien sightings became popular and frequent. So the most typical case, when the uncle described them as "meter-high, greenish, human-like" - newspapers ran out of headlines with "green men" and they became a habit.

There is a fairly common misconception:

In fact, white wine can be made from any grape variety (be it white, red or even black). The secret lies only in the processing method. The so-called "white" processing requires that the squeezed grape juice is immediately strained and then fermented without the skin. As a result, the range of varieties of white wine in color is very wide: from light straw to cognac.

Ripe sweet grapes are selected for the preparation of white wine. Clusters must be whole, undamaged, sorted from rotten, diseased and unripe berries. The berries are separated from the ridges. The combs contain a large amount of tannins, which, when crushed, together with the berries, pass into the must. The ridges are separated from the berries in a crusher with a comb separator. At home, this is done manually or on a sieve. These are lattices with holes larger than the diameter of the berry. These sieves are fixed over the container and the bunches of grapes are rubbed by hand. Crushing of berries is carried out in various ways: in crushers or manually in canvas bags, in screw or other presses, graters, juicers, etc. It is important not to destroy the seeds, which worsen the taste of wine.

    http://ovve.fatal.ru/stati/vinodelie.php

The same reason why they call blackcurrant green when it is red ... unripe

Because white wines are made in the "white way", that is. And the color of the grapes does not matter at all: white wine can be made from grapes of any color (white, pink, red). A prerequisite for this is to prevent contact of the juice with the skin.

There is a lot of talk about the culture of drinking, unfortunately, the word "culture" is often omitted when it comes to various celebrations, weddings, banquets, receptions, in a word, any plentiful feasts. And in this case, there are a number of "provocateurs" who force a person to drink, as they say, "without knowing the measure."

For example, a child brought up in a family where parents do not refuse alcoholic beverages “with or without cause” eventually begins to perceive drinking as the norm of life. So, if later he also becomes addicted to alcohol, then this will not be surprising.

Some people perceive alcoholic beverages as a means, to a large extent, capable of facilitating communication, even with people who are far from strangers. At first, it may be so, but now, over time, their use becomes already a persistent habit.

Someone justifies their addiction to alcohol by the opportunity for themselves to relieve stress, emotional excitement, tension, or the opportunity to get rid of a sense of fear.

There are also people among us who start drinking alcohol simply out of banal boredom, because they have no desire to look for an interesting activity for themselves, and, in the end, they follow the “path of least resistance”, starting to look at the “bottom of the bottle” ".

Surely, you had to observe a picture when, after drinking the first toast about some event, in the future, a person already ceases to control himself, and begins to take regular doses as a matter of course, and he no longer needs any reasons and toasts for this.

And someone even perceives alcoholic beverages, especially expensive ones, as an obligatory attribute of a luxurious life and with their help, tries to create the most comfortable living conditions for themselves.

Unfortunately, both are mistaken, and others, and third ...

So, if you are sure that, in a particular case, there are reasons for concern about addiction to alcohol, then every effort should be made to ensure that a person who is at risk associated with heredity, as as rarely as possible encountered the presence of alcoholic beverages in his life.

In particular, if such people (person) live with you, then you should avoid having any alcohol in your house, especially when it comes to the younger generation.

The fact is that alcoholism is a serious disease, and the fight against it is very complex and lengthy. Of course, no one will argue with the fact that there is an opportunity to return a person to a normal lifestyle, for example, after a rehabilitation course at the Renaissance center http://ncrenessans.com.ua/lechenie-alkogolizma.html, but still, one should not forget that this is not so easy to do. Moreover, it is necessary that the drinking person himself realizes the full depth of the problem he has, and wholeheartedly wishes to reverse the current situation. Only in this case, you can count on healing.

And, again, close circle, and especially relatives, should be patient and make every effort to provide effective assistance to a person who has such a harmful addiction.

The treatment of alcohol dependence is not the last in the list of problems that modern medicine is trying to solve. After all, a drinking person endangers not only his health and life, but also the health and life of other people. Therefore, any measures should be taken to cope with addiction to alcohol, and qualified medical specialists are always ready to provide the necessary assistance in solving this problem.
