Written consultation

Plastic cards distributed by banks of a particular payment system have their own distinctive features and various elements of their protection against counterfeiting.

At the same time, it should be noted that each payment system that imitates a PC periodically takes additional measures to further improve the elements of protecting PCs and other payment documents from forgery.

Thus, a plastic card is a plastic rectangle, on the front side of which, in places strictly fixed for each issuer, there is a designation of the trademark of the payment system, applied in different ways for each system.

At the bottom of the front side of the card, an embossed account number is embossed, which consists of 16 (rarely 19) digits. The name of the interbank association is determined by the first digit (for example, No. 3 - American Express, No. 4 - VISA, No. 5 - Master Card, etc.).

The first six digits of the account number are called the basic (or bank) identification number (BIN), which identifies the bank that issued the account number.

The following digits of the account indicate the serial number of the card in the payment system, they are the individual number of the cardholder. By this number in the bank you can get information: when the account was opened and who owns the card with that number, what operations were performed using a PC.

Under the account number, an imprint of the date of termination of the card (sometimes the beginning of the term) and the surname and name of the cardholder are embossed.

In Russian payment systems, the embossed text on the cards is in Cyrillic.

On the front side of plastic cards of various payment systems there are several elements of card protection against counterfeiting.

For example, on the front side of VISA cards there are the following security features:

a) The holographic image of a dove, which is located on the right side of the map. When you change the angle on the hologram, you can see the movement of the edge of the dove's wing and a change in color is observed. In addition, the last four digits of the embossed account number are placed on the hologram.

b) Microprinting. In the upper or lower right corner of the card, above or below the hologram, the logo of the VISA Association is placed. The logo is surrounded by a security feature known as microprinting. This thin line of repeating alphanumeric code, invisible to the naked eye, consists of specific identification and control data, including the type of product and the name of the card manufacturer.

c) Ultraviolet dove. In the center of the card, under ultraviolet rays, a fluorescent image of a dove appears.

d) Printed BIN is the number of the first four digits of the embossed invoice number.

The BIN is either above or below the imprinted account number. In the future, the Bank Identification Number (BIN) will be located below the account number.

e) VISA "V". Immediately following the expiration date of the card is placed an embossed security element called the “flying V” or “VISA V”, with the left stroke of the “V” must be in a strictly vertical position.

On the reverse side of the card there is a magnetic strip of two, three or four tracks for writing in coded form of information embossed on the front side of the card, as well as PIN (personal identification number - it is four-digit and is the password of the cardholder).

The magnetic strip is a piece of special magnetic film attached to the card during its manufacture.

On the magnetic stripe of PCs issued by the VISA association, there is one of three elements of card protection against counterfeiting: control value (CVV), place for the cardholder's signature or control value 2 (CVV2).

The control value (CVV) is an algorithmically calculated number that can be controlled by the issuing bank when making a transaction on an electronic terminal.

The signature area (signature field) contains the cardholder's signature and the word "VISA" is printed in blue and gold letters on the white field at an angle of 45°.

When you try to remove the signature from the signature field, the word “VOID” (“invalid”) appears on it.

The signature on the card is checked against the signature on the slip (sales receipt) at the time of purchase of the goods at the point of sale to make sure that the card is used by its rightful holder.

In addition, a left-slanted number, known as control value 2 (CVV2), is printed on the indented signature field, by which the issuing bank can verify the authenticity of the card.

Under the magnetic strip on the back of the PC, there may be information about its issuer.

In addition to the individual and original design for each payment system, there are other means of protecting the PC, which include: high-quality typographic printing, hologram, photo of the cardholder, holographic laminating film, microtext, the presence and features of the strip (signature field) for the signature sample, etc.

The signature panel is designed in such a way that any attempt to erase or destroy the signature will damage the panel and the inscription “MasterCard”. Therefore, it is necessary to check the integrity of the panel and the presence of the inscription “MasterCard”.

The panel must be marked with: the last four digits of the card number (or the full sixteen-digit card number - four groups of four digits) and a three-digit card validity code. The card number and card validity code must be completely on the signature panel.

Maestro cards

At the top of the front side of the card is the name of the issuer (the bank or financial company that issued the card) and / or their emblem.

On the right side of the card is the Maestro Logo, which consists of two intersecting circles with the inscription “Maestro”. Circles can be blue and red or both black. The logo can be applied both on the front and on the back of the cards. The map may have a hologram representing two intersecting earth hemispheres with the image of the continents and a meridian grid. When the map is rotated, in the rays of light, the meridian grid becomes three-dimensional. The hologram is an optional design element.

Other information printed on the front side of the card is identical to the information printed on Eurocard/MasterCard cards. If the Cirrus/Maestro card is combined with another payment system, the card number may begin with the number 6. On some cards, only the first four and last four digits of the number are printed for security reasons. In most cases, the number on the cards is applied by laser or printed in such a way as to exclude the possibility of obtaining an imprint of the card on the imprinter.

On the reverse side cards can be marked with the Cirrus logo (two intersecting circles of blue and light blue with the inscription “Cirrus” in the center) and EC (EuroCheque - the image of the letters EC, the card holder icon and the electronic keyboard). The signature panel must have an oblique repeating inscription " Maestro " .

Cirrus/Maestro cards can only be accepted for payment at outlets equipped with an electronic terminal (POS-terminal).

VISA cards

On the front side card at the top of the card is the name of the issuer (the bank or financial company that issued the card) and / or their emblem. On the right side (in the upper or lower corner) there must be a trademark (VISA on a blue-white-gold background), around which microprinting is applied in the form of a continuous frame. The card has a hologram depicting a flying dove. When the card is turned, in the rays of light, the dove "moves" its wings. If the image does not change when the card is rotated or the dove is not visible, this means that the card is fake.

The card has embossed (embossed) information in several lines:

The first line embossed a number, which consists of 13 or 16 digits and always starts with “4”. The digits of the number can be grouped as follows: for a 13-digit number 4XXX XXX XXX XXX; for 16 digit number 4XXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. Above or below the embossed number, four digits are typographically printed, coinciding with the first four digits of the card number. If they do not match or are missing, then the card may be fake. The last three or four digits of the number must be embossed on the hologram.

The second line contains the expiration date of the card and the VISA security symbol - the embossed letter “ V . The security symbol is applied to the right of the card expiration date. On Classic, Businesses, or Premier(Gold) produced prior to 1997, this security symbol may look like this: “ CV ”, ”BV " or " PV " respectively. Without the letter " V ” in one of these options, the card is invalid.

The third and fourth lines are used for the surname of the cardholder and service information for corporate clients (name of the company, bank, etc.). If the name of the company is on the third line, the cardholder's name must be embossed on the fourth and vice versa.

In ultraviolet light, the image of a dove appears in the center of the front of the card.

On the reverse side cards must be: a magnetic stripe for electronic payments, located at the top of the card, a signature panel and additional information about the issuing bank. The position of the signature panel should not coincide with the information embossed on the front side of the card and with the magnetic stripe. On some cards, a scanned signature of the client is placed on the front side, which can be considered as an exemplary one.

The signature panel should contain the following distinguishing features:

The panel should be smooth without any signs of distortion or forgery. AUTHORISED SIGNATURE must be printed above, below, next to or on the strip itself.

The panel shall bear the slanted repeating inscription “VISA”.

The card number and the three-digit card validity code must be printed on the panel. The card number and card validity code must be completely on the signature panel

The card issuer identification located below the signature panel must contain the following information:

The name of the bank or company that issued the card.

The card may also contain information about the bank or the company - the issuer or the Customer Service Service. The location of this information is not regulated.

VISA Electron cards

On the front side card is located the Electron logo. It is a symbolic image of a comet (yellow) on a blue background. The inscription “VISA” is located above the comet, the inscription Electron is placed below the comet. The image is enclosed in a rectangular frame. The presence of a hologram with a dove is an optional design element of VISA Electron cards. On the front side there is an inscription “Electronic use only”, which means that this payment product can be used with authorization only through electronic terminals (POS-terminals). The card number, expiration date and customer name are lasered or printed, not stamped. Under the card number must be the card issuing bank identification number (BIN), which must match the first four digits of the card number. The VISA Electron card number starts with 4 and consists of 16 digits. It is allowed to put on the card only the first four and last four digits of the card number.

The signature panel can be placed on the front or back of the card. The slanted signature panel is printed with ELECTRON in blue, red and yellow.

At the top of the reverse side of the card is a magnetic strip soldered into the plastic. At the bottom of the reverse side of the card, the PLUS logo can be applied, which is a regular rhombus inscribed in a rectangle. In the lower corner of the diamond is the inscription PLUS.

Diners Club Cards

On the front side The cards bear the Diners Club logo, which is located in the upper left corner. On the right side of the logo is the inscription Diners Club International with the symbol â. It is allowed to put in the upper left corner of the card the name and logo of the bank distributing the cards or the partner company. The color of the card is silver with gray wavy lines. On the gray background of the map is a darkened background of the map of the world. The card number is embossed (embossed) and always starts with 36, 38, 30 or 39. The card number consists of 14 digits grouped 4-6-4, for example 30XX XXXXXX XXX. The name of the cardholder is embossed on the second line. In the lower part of the card are applied by embossing (from left to right): 2 digits of the year the holder joined the club; abbreviation "DC"; two Latin letters of the code of the country in which the card was issued; validity period of the card (the initial and final validity periods are always indicated); DC symbol in a circle. Above the DC symbol, a 2-letter security code is typographically applied.

On the reverse side The card has a magnetic strip, a signature strip, in the lower part of which the card number and 3 digits of the security code are laser-etched. The inscription "Valid Woldwide" or "Valid only in Russia" must be present. The hologram does not fall below the DC value and the validity period - strictly in this band, neither lower nor higher. The hologram panel has a DC symbol and a world map, and against the iridescent colors of the world map, the inscription "Diners Club International" appears, which should not go beyond the background of the map.

American Express Cards

The card number is printed on the front side of the card, which always starts with 37 and has 15 digits grouped 4-6-5 (for example, 37XX XXXXXX XXXXX), the card validity period is always indicated initial and final (cards are issued for 2-3 years). After the expiration date, the year of joining AmEx and the letters A.X. or O.C.

On personal and corporate cards, a four-digit numeric code (batch code) is applied to the right above the card number. On Optima cards, the code is printed on the left above the card number. On cards of all kinds, a Roman warrior is depicted. On personal cards, the image of a Roman soldier is located in the center of the card, on corporate cards in the upper left corner. On Optima cards, the image of a warrior occupies the entire right side of the card. In ultraviolet light, the map shows: on the left, the letters AM; in the middle is an image of a Roman soldier; on the right the letters EX

The back of the card has a magnetic stripe, a signature panel, the AmEx logo and Made in U. S.A. Under the signature panel, there is a laser card number.

Cards that do not meet the above requirements are not subject to service, about which the employee of the enterprise is obliged to notify the card holder, indicating the reason for the refusal.

2.4. Fake cards of international payment systems have the following distinguishing features:

The hologram shimmers with all the colors of the rainbow, but the volume of the image is missing. The background of the hologram is dim and the image is fuzzy. The hologram peels off, lifts up and gives a thickening when pressed on it;

The laminating film peels off at the edges of the card, in the area of the hologram, or does not adhere tightly to the plastic at the place where the card number is embossed;

The microprinting around the VISA logo is almost unreadable and easily erased from the card;

The four-digit number printed on the front of the VISA and Eurocard/MasterCard cards does not match the first four digits of the card number, or it matches, but is easily erased from the card;

In ultraviolet light, there are no protective images, or they are blurry and the card itself glows;

The end of the card is dark;

The signature panel is sealed with plain paper and can be easily peeled off. On the signature panel, the protective background in the form of the inscription “Mastercard” (for Eurocard/MasterCard cards), “VISA” (for VISA cards), “Maestro” (for Cirrus/Maestro cards) is missing or erased;

On the signature panel, the inscription “VOID” is visible;

The cardholder's signature is missing on the signature panel;

The magnetic stripe is stuck to the surface of the card, protrudes above the surface of the card, or peels off at the edges.
