Do-it-yourself lighter from a large sleeve instruction.

A lighter is a very useful tool that helps us both at home and far outside the city. Despite its low cost and availability in stores, many craftsmen try to make it with their own hands. You may not need these skills, but you must admit that not every one of your friends and acquaintances has such a home-made device. And making a homemade lighter is quite simple. Moreover, it can be made practically from improvised materials. How to make a lighter with your own hands?

See the answer to this question in this article.

How to make a lighter from a cartridge case?

One of the simplest methods is the manufacture of a device from a sleeve. Here we will consider several methods and options at once. In the first among the materials you will need a new zippa, a sleeve, a torch, as well as silver-copper solder. What to do next with these tools? To begin with, you will need to gut the flint from the zippa and get a metal disk from there that emits a spark. After that, disassemble all the other parts of this element - the filter, packing and disc fasteners. These parts should be assembled and soldered together. If you find roughness on some element, remove them with a soldering iron, thereby giving it the correct shape. Further, all the contents are clogged into the sleeve, a wick is inserted and fuel is poured over it. Everything - the lighter is ready to use.

Other ways

To use the second method, you will need to prepare a narrow metal tube. It should make a hole for the wheel. Place a special flint with a spring there. Remember that the first element should be with a small elastic band. Even from a durable alloy or metal, make a cap for a lighter along with a wick. Next, solder a metal tube to the sleeve and fill the top of the device with fuel.

The third manufacturing method involves the use of parts such as a sleeve and a cotton cord. At the first stage, the cord must be cut, moistened with gasoline and lowered into the sleeve. Next, it is necessary to ensure the interaction of the device with the flint - for this, leave the outer part of the wick to look out. The flint itself is made from a file. How to do it? To do this, solder a small piece of a file (no more than 5 centimeters long) to the sleeve and pour gasoline into the last one. Everything - the device is ready for use.

How to revive an old gasoline lighter?

If in the previous methods we told you about how to make a gasoline lighter from improvised means, then in this method we will look at how you can reanimate an old device and make it work again. But before you get started, a few words about tools and materials.

So, what materials do we need for this?

In the course of work, you need to prepare several copper tubes with a diameter of 5 and 15 millimeters, two pairs of gears and one zippa. The latter can be taken from a conventional Chinese-made gas disposable lighter.

We note right away that you will not be able to make a device with the same ignition mechanism as it was before using these components - for this you need to have only original spare parts. And this is extremely difficult to do - it will be much easier to buy a new one in a store than to suffer with the old one.

So that in the end the mechanism for opening and closing the lighter is not excessively flimsy, the body must be monolithic. Otherwise, when used, the elements of the device will constantly move to the side.

How to make The principle of resuscitation of an old lighter is quite simple - all prepared elements are installed in place of the old ones, and the tool's capacity is filled with gasoline. In order to prevent fuel from evaporating, it is recommended to install a cap here. However, due to the flimsy design, part of it will constantly cling to the gear, so such a device is not suitable for frequent use.

In conclusion, about gasoline lighters, we note that all the main parts, namely flints, change in it, and therefore such an apparatus will serve for a very, very long time.

Making a device from a battery

How to make a lighter from a battery? It will be even easier to make this element in a similar way than everyone else, so if you have a minimum of free time to work on making a lighter, use this particular method. And it consists of only a few stages.

First, the basic materials are prepared - a 12-volt battery and a piece of ordinary foil. As an alternative, take a chewing gum wrapper - this does not change the essence of the matter.

As soon as both contacts are closed, a small "fire" will form at the fold of the foil. Of course, in terms of reliability, such a lighter is not very convenient to use, but in nature, especially at a picnic, such a thing will definitely not bother you.

So, we figured out how to make a lighter from improvised materials.

How to make a lighter yourself?

How many Kulibins the Russian land wears, only God knows! Today, dear reader, we will learn how to build a lighter from improvised means. You will need a certain amount of attention and patience. You will also learn how to make a lighter in field conditions from potatoes and toothpaste! Don't believe? So:

How to make a lighter yourself?

Perhaps the most common way to make lighters in the field is to make them from a cartridge case. Why a sleeve? First of all, the dimensions. The sleeve, for example, from the AK-47 cartridge fits easily in your hand and pocket. And of course, the sleeve is made of metal, which is undoubtedly much safer than a lighter made of other materials. The main problem is where to get it. But we are sure that you will find a couple of military acquaintances. We will talk about 2 ways to make a lighter. There are plenty of videos on the internet about this.

Method number 1

  • Take any small metal tube. It can be, in principle, of any size, the main thing is that it fits under the sleeve.
  • It must be welded to the cartridge case. Take a soldering iron and weld the joint well to avoid an early breakage. In addition, it is necessary to make a cutout for the wheel (in a metal tube) that will rotate and start the lighter mechanism. The cutout must correspond to the dimensions of the wheel with a margin for its fastening and free rotation.
  • Next, you will need to disassemble any old or ended lighter and remove the flint with the spring from it. By the way, the wheel from an old lighter is also suitable for use. We install this design in the cutout. It will be easiest to work with tweezers.
  • It is also necessary to make a wick (you can take it from an ordinary candle by cutting it) and a cap, which can be metal, for example, from the remnant of the same cartridge case, or if you have a bullet, you can use it.
  • We lower the wick into the sleeve, and solder the cap of any shape to the same sleeve.

Method number 2

Here we need a piece of cotton cord.

  • Take the sleeve and lower the string into it. This will protect the cord from moisture.
  • If you want your homemade lighter to work more efficiently, you need to moisten it with gasoline and only then lower it into the sleeve.
  • The spark in this design is obtained using a file. It must be cut to the minimum size. 5 centimeters long will be enough.
  • Thus, we strike a file, for example, on a stone, we get a spark and our wick, dipped in gasoline, begins to burn without interruption.

This option is good when you are really in extreme conditions.

How to make a lighter in nature or in the forest?

This method is loved by many unlucky tourists and travelers who forgot to take campfire tools on a hike. The following chemical processes help to make fire from almost nothing. What should be done:

In general, many needlework lovers act very cunningly. Their method, by the way, can be considered quite independent and very inventive. What are they doing? Everything is simple.

  • You need to take a regular ended or a new lighter.
  • Now you need to completely disassemble it. All details will be needed.
  • We take the sleeve known to us from a cartridge of such a size that all the "insides" of the lighter fit in the sleeve.
  • The most important tool in this case is a soldering iron. Those lucky ones who communicate with this tool on "you" can easily solder the entire contents of the lighter to the sleeve.
  • After that, you must not forget to fill the newly made lighter from the cartridge with gasoline, otherwise there will be no spark.

Good article on how to make a gift with your own hands. It's great.

Good day Comrades!
This article is more about the gift and how to make it. I do not claim originality. Just thought maybe someone will come in handy. Those who know how to do, share their knowledge, those who do not know how to read and do.

And so, I was given the task here to make a gasoline lighter. But not simple, but Trench. That is, made from a cartridge. Caliber and performance were not discussed. So the freedom of creativity was limited only by resources.
Gathering my thoughts, washing my hands, and remembering how to do it, I reached into the bins. I have no idea where I get so much crap from...
First of all, I collected all kinds of scrap metal from non-ferrous metal.

Then he added to this pile, a handful of shells-cartridges-bullets-dummies. Something else was preserved from childhood, something was bought, bartered, begged for at a later time. The remains of my collection, my charm.

Since quivering feelings did not allow the use of single copies in the work, I selected duplicates. And it rushed n ... over the bumps, that is, the work began.
First of all, we drill shot cartridge case capsule. Then we chicken and drill out the capsular nest to the size you need. After drilling, we wind the thread in the hole. Of course, you can get by with a cork, or pour gasoline through a wick. But this is not good and not convenient.
If you found a whole, live cartridge and have no experience in discharging it, then entrust the process to someone who knows. And themselves with @ @ b ### going to another room, or somewhere else.

Having finished with the “ass” of the sleeve, we move on to its muzzle. We need to make a landing nest for the wick.
First of all, we are looking for a blank made of non-ferrous metal, 2-3 mm thick and with an area larger than the diameter of the muzzle. We drill a hole in its center, slightly smaller in diameter than the wick. We cut (chopped off, filed) to the shape of a circle. We put the workpiece on the bolt and tighten it in the drill chuck. We turn on at full speed and grind to the perfect circle and diameter of the muzzle. We retreat from the edge about 1 mm and grind a little deeper.

Now at the base of the neck of the sleeve, using a dowel or center punch, we make indentations.

The recesses on the sleeve and the chamfered on the seat of the wick will not allow it to fall into the sleeve.
We press the nest into the muzzle. Here who can, and with what. You can star with a winder, you can use a vise. I pressed it in with a clamp. Slowly, but there is no danger of ruining the case. After the wick seat has entered the sleeve, we put a nut or washer under it in order to press it deeper. The main thing here is not to overdo it. This is not the case when the stronger and deeper, the better. Here you can push inside, you are tormented to get it out.

In order to ensure a solid fit, we need to solder these two parts. It takes a long time with an ordinary soldering iron, and tin is not particularly suitable for these purposes. I used a gas torch and silver solder. I don’t know where to buy one, I honestly expropriated it at the place before last.
We treat the place of soldering with acid. We chop small pieces of solder. We turn on the burner. Sleeve in pliers. In the other hand, an awl or a thin long screwdriver. And we start soldering.

Now that the body is finished, we need a cap. A bullet was used as it. We take a bullet and heat it on a gas stove or burner. Shake vigorously but gently so that the lead flows out. Now only the steel core remained in it. You may be lucky and the bullet will be without it. Or you may be unlucky and the bullet will be tracer, then there will be fireworks. In short, first study the body of the bullet and the color marking. And then you will be left without eyes, then I will be ashamed.
Next, take out the core. We measure the depth of the muzzle of the sleeve and cut off the unwanted part of the bullet. I also cut off the nose. For what? I'll explain later.

Putting this whole thing together. And put aside.

Now we need to assemble the spark-cutting assembly. How cleverly said, genius @la.
First of all, among the little things, I dug out a wheel from a Chinese zippo. After sawing off a rectangular piece of brass.

From a piece of brass we bend a “P” shaped element. It will serve as a saddle for the wheel. In order to make it easier to bend, we make triangular cuts, approximately to the middle of the workpiece.

We cut off a piece of the tube, its inner diameter should match the diameter of the flint.

In the legs of the “P” shaped workpiece, we drill two coaxial holes similar to the diameter of the hole in the wheel. And at the top is a hole for a flint tube.
We press in the flint channel. Yes, I'm being smart again.

We solder the details. Because the sleeve is tapered, I angled the "U" shaped element slightly towards the intended placement of the wick.

We make a preliminary assembly of the node and check its performance.

We grind everything superfluous.

In order to attach the knot to the sleeve, we make two loops of brass or copper. Before bending them, I advise you to half-dip the inside of the loop.

The loops should fit snugly on the tube. We solder them to the tube.

We bend the antennae of the loops, we play. Not to be confused with fornication, this is a completely different activity, although no less interesting and exciting.

We apply the resulting design to the sleeve. We fix two elements with a wire or vice. We solder the mustache.

Cleaning, polishing, sharpening. Then we put the wheel, which we fasten in any way convenient for you. I fixed it with a tube, a riveting or a bolt is quite suitable.

Since we have a threaded hole in the bottom of the sleeve, we need a cork. I made it from a copper cap and a bolt trim, soldering these two elements into one. In addition, we put a rubber ring on the resulting bolt. It will reduce the evaporation of the fuel.

We twist the wick and stretch it inside the lighter. From the bottom we fill the lighter with cotton. We fill the fuel, twist the cork.

In principle, the lighter is ready. But. In order not to fall in love with the cap, I advise you to connect it with a chain with a lighter. To do this, we thread the chain into the hole at the top of the cap and fill it with tin or the same silver solder. I did not bother and scored this case with cold welding. The flint fastened the chain to the tightening bolt with a loop of steel wire.
Now that's all for sure.

Lovers of perfect products can polish their lighter. I don't like it, so I just lightly treated it with polishing paste and felt. Also did not rub and small scratches. This is a “Combat” lighter, which means it should look accordingly.
Good luck and success to all!
