Potato casserole with meat in the oven - useful tips and tricks

To hold the layers of the casserole together and prevent them from falling apart when slicing, you can lightly sprinkle them with grated cheese or brush them with a raw egg.

If you sprinkle a greased pan with breadcrumbs, a crispy crust will appear on the finished casserole.

To prevent the cheese from burning, you can spread a thin layer of sour cream or mayonnaise on top.

To give the potato casserole a piquant taste, you can add not raw onions, but marinated in vinegar.

Mayonnaise, cream and sour cream are products that can be replaced with each other. But remember that they have different tastes and fat content.

You can also use leftover mashed potatoes for the casserole. For a richer taste, you can add fried onions, herbs, and chicken eggs.

Step 1: prepare the potatoes.

Wash the potatoes thoroughly under warm running water, using a kitchen brush to remove any remaining dirt.

Then use a vegetable peeler to remove the peel and place on a cutting board.

Now use a knife to chop the tubers into medium pieces and place them in a large saucepan.

Fill the container with regular cold water so that it completely covers the component, and put it on medium heat. Attention: To make the liquid boil faster, cover the pan with a lid. In 5–10 minutes Before this, foam should form on the surface of the water. Be sure to remove it with a slotted spoon and throw it in the sink. After boiling, turn down the heat and cook the potatoes until tender for 40–50 minutes. Immediately after this, turn off the burner and carefully pour the liquid into the sink, holding the pan with the lid slightly open using oven mitts. That's it, the potatoes are ready, so you need to immediately start the pureeing process.

Step 2: prepare the milk.

Pour the milk into the Turk and place it on medium heat. When the liquid boils (and this will happen literally within 1–2 minutes), immediately turn off the burner and set the container aside.

Step 3: prepare mashed potatoes for the dish.

Pour hot milk into the pan with potatoes and, using a masher, thoroughly mash the ingredients until a homogeneous mass is formed. Then, using a knife, break the shells of the eggs, and add the yolks and whites to a common container. In addition, put a piece of butter here and salt and ground black pepper to taste. We continue to mix everything with available equipment until we get a beautiful and homogeneous mass. Finally, cover the pan with a lid and leave aside for a while.

Step 4: Prepare the onions.

Using a knife, peel the onion and rinse thoroughly under running warm water. Place the component on a cutting board and finely chop into cubes. Pour the chopped onions into a clean plate and leave aside for a while.

Step 5: prepare the flour.

Pour the flour into a sieve and sift directly over a small bowl. This must be done in order to get rid of excess lumps and saturate the component with oxygen.

Step 6: Prepare the beef.

Wash the beef thoroughly under running water, dry with kitchen paper towels and place on a cutting board. Using a kitchen knife, we clean the meat from films, veins and excess fat. Now cut the component into medium pieces and transfer to a clean plate.

To turn the beef into minced meat, use a meat grinder with a fine grid. Do this over a medium bowl. Attention: To avoid pieces of meat in the dish, you can roll the beef at least 2 times.

Step 7: prepare the meat and potato casserole.

Place the remaining piece of butter in the first frying pan and place over medium heat. When the contents of the container have completely melted, add the ground beef. Stirring occasionally with a wooden spatula, fry the component until brown. Immediately after this, turn off the burner and set the container aside.

Pour a small amount of vegetable oil into the second frying pan and place on high heat. Attention: To ensure that the dish has a pleasant natural aroma, I recommend using a refined component. When the contents of the container are well heated, reduce the heat and pour in the chopped onion. Stirring with a wooden spatula, fry the component until light golden brown and immediately turn off the burner.

Then pour the onions into the frying pan with the minced beef, add salt and ground black pepper to taste and, using a tablespoon, mix everything thoroughly until a homogeneous mass is formed. Important: be sure to watch the amount of spices, as we previously added them to mashed potatoes.

When everything is ready, use a pastry brush to grease the bottom and sides of the baking dish with a small amount of vegetable oil. Posting it here 1/2 part mashed potatoes and level it with a tablespoon. Then add the ground beef to the container until it completely covers the first layer. At the end, put the remaining mashed potatoes here, smooth everything out again with a spoon and turn on the oven. When it warms up to temperature 180–200 °C, place the dish with the dish on the middle level and bake it for 30–40 minutes until a golden crust appears on the surface.

Immediately after this, turn off the oven, and remove the container using oven mitts and set it aside. When the meat and potato casserole has cooled a little, use a knife to cut it into portions and transfer to a special flat plate.

Step 8: Serve the meat casserole with potatoes.

This delicious and very aromatic casserole can be served at the dinner table along with sour cream or other sauces of your choice. It is best to wash this dish down with tea, as it is quite filling. Help yourself!
Bon appetit everyone!

Instead of beef, you can add chicken or turkey fillet, pork and other types of meat to your casserole. Of course, we grind the component in advance using a meat grinder with a fine grid. Attention: try to use home-made minced meat rather than purchasing ready-made ones at markets or stores;

Instead of a potato layer, the casserole can be covered with cheese. To do this, grate the component on a coarse grater in advance. Place the mashed potatoes first in the baking dish, then add the meat layer and finally sprinkle the casserole with cheese shavings so that it completely covers the minced meat. This version of the dish is baked until the last layer is covered with a bright golden crust;

In addition to the spices indicated in the recipe, you can add any others to the casserole to your taste. For example, I usually add 1-2 pinches of khmeli-suneli to mashed potatoes, and ground coriander to minced meat.

Potato casserole with meat in the oven, step-by-step recipe with photos

Potato casserole. Potatoes are one of the most popular vegetables. Its economy, pleasant taste and wide possibilities of use make not only ordinary consumers, but also artists sing an ode to potatoes (take, for example, Tosya from “Girls”, listing dishes made from potato tubers). One of the simple and tasty potato dishes is casserole.

The unique neutral taste of potatoes is a field for culinary imagination, since the vegetable goes well with any type of meat and poultry, offal, mushrooms, vegetables, cheese, etc. By the way, depending on the filling you need to select spices. You can use ready-made seasonings for potatoes and other vegetables, but their taste is fairly standard due to flavor enhancers and preservatives. Another thing is to choose from a number of natural seasonings to suit your taste. Black pepper, nutmeg, and cumin go well with potatoes. Garlic rules the show here too - not only the taste, but also the smell will not leave any member of the household indifferent (otherwise, look, the neighbors will come running over too). Green onions, parsley and dill are always welcome guests in potatoes. Thyme, marjoram, and ginger are great for potato casseroles with meat. Provençal herbs, mixtures of which can be found on sale everywhere, go well with potatoes. If you want to diversify the dish, use oriental turmeric and coriander. Experiment by recording the progress of the experiment. Very soon you will probably hear from your household asking you to “repeat” the dish.

Many people consider potatoes to be a high-calorie product that is best avoided. However, nutritionists have long refuted this opinion, pointing out that potatoes can be a dietary product if prepared correctly, and the potato diet is recognized as one of the effective weight normalization systems. Depending on the ingredients, potato casserole can be either filling, high-calorie (for example, made from fatty meats), or lean (with potatoes and other vegetables).

Making potato casserole is a pleasure. All you have to do is put the ingredients in a mold (or frying pan) and send the future culinary masterpiece to the oven. An appetizing dish with a fragrant crust will be prepared in the blink of an eye - before you even have time to look back.

Potato casseroles are very diverse, because they can be prepared from raw potatoes, or from cooked, boiled, or mashed potatoes. Is there leftover puree from lunch, which, as we know, loses its taste when reheated? Use it to make a casserole for dinner. Take some minced meat or pieces of chicken breast, ham or sausage, stewed cabbage or champignons, place the filling between two layers of potatoes, spread sour cream on top - and you will get a great dish for dinner, and maybe for breakfast. Although this is unlikely - casseroles have a short life, since they are eaten very quickly (they are unlikely to last until the morning). By the way, in order for the dish to keep its shape, it is recommended to use eggs, sour cream and cream. Many also sprinkle potato casseroles with grated cheese - the magnificent duo of potatoes and cheese has long earned them fame and love from all who love to eat deliciously.
