24-year-old Artem Gorbunov buried in Nizhny Novgorod

In Nizhny Novgorod, on the Walk of Fame, 24-year-old intelligence officer Artem Gorbunov from military unit 52634 was interred today. A soldier of the 96th separate reconnaissance brigade died on March 2 near Palmyra. His group carried out tasks for the protection of Russian advisers. Artem was at the forefront, took the blow when the enemy broke through. The bullet hit the scout in the head.

The details of his biography were told to MK by his college classmate and friends.

In Nizhny Novgorod, in the 96th separate reconnaissance brigade, which is quartered in Sormovo, there has been mourning for several days. On March 2, the brigade lost a colleague, in fact, a brother.

It seems that only recently in 2011 Artyom was escorted to the army, and today he is already buried on the Walk of Fame. Syria seems far away, and it’s not about us, it’s actually close,” says Anna, who has been talking with Artem for a long time in one big company.

Friends say about Artem: “This man is a rock. He always took on the heaviest things. He was very purposeful. Courage in him was combined with kindness.

Artem was a great friend, colleague and just a good person. For all the time I met, I never heard a rude word from him addressed to someone, - says Alexander. “There are very few people like Artyom.”

They say that “I would go on reconnaissance with him,” so this is just about Artem, says his friend Alexei.

His classmates and classmates from the Nizhny Novgorod Industrial College came to bury Artyom.

Fellow students said bitterly: “We haven’t seen each other for so many years. And Artem gathered everyone ... "

We studied with Artem in the same group, got the specialty of CNC machine tool adjusters, and also acquired the skills of a turner, - says Sergey. - Artyom was a very cheerful guy, he loved music, studied well, was engaged in kickboxing, he could always stand up for himself. After defending his diploma, he was almost immediately drafted into the army, in my opinion, then he didn’t even have time to pick up his diploma.

Friends say that Artem ended up serving in Murmansk, he was a paratrooper. In the army, he met a countryman from Nizhny Novgorod. They became friends, returned together from the army. A friend introduced Artem to his sister Sofia. This meeting proved to be fateful. Sophia and Artem fell in love, soon got married, they had a daughter - an exact copy of dad. Artem simply adored her.

After the army, he wanted to stay to serve under the contract. But I had to help my mother.

She brought up alone - she raised Artem with her sister, - says Anna. They were having a hard time financially. Artem stayed in Nizhny Novgorod and went to work for GAZ. But a year ago, in 2016, he nevertheless decided to go to serve under a contract.

He ended up in the elite 96th separate reconnaissance brigade. None of the civilians knew that he went on a business trip to Syria.

The last time he called his wife Sofya on February 27, congratulated his daughter on her birthday, the girl had just turned 2 years old. He didn't get in touch anymore. On March 3, friends of friends called and said that Artem had died. Nobody knew under what circumstances. Details of that operation were not disclosed. Only today, at a ritual ceremony, high military officials said that they were taking the city of Palmyra, a bullet hit Artyom in the head. He was only 24 years old.

The fact that militants of the group "Islamic State" (ISIS - banned on the territory of the Russian Federation) were knocked out of Palmyra is the merit of a simple Nizhny Novgorod guy Artyom Gorbunov.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation will present him for a state award.

How can I get to

You should go to Nizhny Novgorod. Nizhny Novgorod is a fairly large city, it has not only a railway station, but also an airport. It may be more convenient for someone to get there by plane, because ticket prices are quite affordable, but this results in significant time savings.

Part is located on the outskirts of the city in the Sormovsky district. The exact address is Fedoseenko, 127. You may need it when calling a city taxi.

Shuttle taxi

To travel around the city, you can choose a bus or taxi. If you plan to travel by train, then get off at the N. Novgorod-Moskovsky station (main station). From the station to the part there is a direct minibus, so you can safely go by public transport.

Then you should go to the stop "Moskovsky railway station". It is located on the "Gordeevsky Piglet". To get there you need to go through the tunnel without turnstiles to the end. The tunnel passes under the Moscow highway, you should move towards Gordeevskaya street. After leaving the station through the main entrance, you need to turn left towards the road bridge. There, after 100 meters there will be a descent into the underground passage. Turn left at the crossing and follow to the end. There is an area with urban and suburban transport.

The most convenient direct route is 71 and 171. Minibuses depart often, go through the entire center to the part. On the same routes you can get to the main attractions.

A 24-year-old serviceman of the 96th separate reconnaissance brigade, Artem Gorbunov, who died on March 2 during the attack of the Syrian army and the Russian Aerospace Forces on Palmyra, is buried in Nizhny Novgorod today. This was reported to Kommersant by the widow of the deceased Sofya Gorbunova. The Ministry of Defense later confirmed the death of Artyom Gorbunov, stating that he was "performing the tasks of protecting a group of Russian military advisers." Thus, the official number of Russian servicemen killed in Syria is 28 people.

In Nizhny Novgorod today they said goodbye to 24-year-old Artem Gorbunov, a soldier of the 96th separate reconnaissance brigade (military unit 52634 stationed in the Sormovo district of Nizhny Novgorod), who died during the assault on Palmyra on March 2. “He died in the line of duty,” Sofya Gorbunova, the widow of the deceased, told Kommersant. In her social media accounts, she clarified that Artem Gorbunov died on March 2, when, together with a group of colleagues, he was ambushed in Syria. "He was the first to be killed," she wrote. The death of the Russian military was reported today by the activists of the group Conflict Intelligence Team investigating military conflicts in Syria and Ukraine.

The press service of the Ministry of Defense Kommersant at first found it difficult to comment on the news about new losses among the Russian contingent in Syria: "We need to find out everything, write a request." Later, the department officially confirmed the death of Artem Gorbunov, saying that he died “while repelling an attempt to break through a group of militants of the Islamic State” (banned in Russia.- "b") on the positions of the Syrian troops, where the Russian military advisers were located.” The serviceman was posthumously nominated for the award, the Defense Ministry added.

The headquarters of the 96th separate reconnaissance brigade refused to comment on reports of the death of a serviceman.

The location of the 100th separate reconnaissance brigade, or military unit 23511, is the city of Mozdok of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. The servicemen themselves call the connection “Sotka”, and it is located next to the airfield. According to sources, in terms of its organization and staff structure, the brigade is similar to the US 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment (Black Horse). Military unit 23511 performs a complex of reconnaissance tasks, where space, photo-, electronic reconnaissance and reconnaissance before battle are used.

The territory of the military unit

Story

The brigade was created in 2009 as an experimental formation of a new type. It included structural units of the 56th airborne assault brigade (Kamyshin), the 10th separate GRU special forces brigade (Molkino) and other military units. In 2012, a helicopter squadron, previously located in the city of Budenovsk, was attached to the brigade.
Today, military unit 23511 includes three battalions: air assault, reconnaissance and electronic warfare. In addition to them, the formation includes special forces and unmanned aerial vehicles, a howitzer artillery battalion, an anti-aircraft missile artillery battery, an engineer company, and logistics support units.

Brigade Banner Ceremony

eyewitness impressions

The unit is staffed by both contract servicemen and conscripts. They live in a dormitory for 3 people, where there is a closet for storing uniforms and a table. The rooms are comfortable, cozy, a shower room and a bathroom are shared by two cubicles.
The infrastructure of the garrison is quite developed: there is a hospital, two shops, a summer cafe, a communications salon and a pharmacy. The fighters themselves report that the service is going quite calmly, there are practically no hazing, hazing and theft. They talk about increased physical exertion - combat training takes place both at the airfield near the unit and at the training stadium. There is also a sports camp on the territory.

The food, judging by the reviews, is good. Civilian personnel work in the canteen, there is a small chip in the unit.

The formation of the soldiers of the brigade

Prior to being sworn in, all recruits take a young fighter course. After taking the oath, soldiers can be assigned to military units in Vladikavkaz, Tskhinval, or left in Mozdok.
The oath is taken on Sundays, but the command does not inform about it in advance. It is necessary to independently contact the duty officer or find out information from the soldier. After the oath, leave is allowed on the security of the passport of the parents or spouse until 20.30. During the rest of the service, the soldiers of military unit 23511 are also released on leave. But the serviceman must know exactly the date of the parents' arrival in order to write a report addressed to the unit commander.

Soldiers can use mobile phones only on weekends, the rest of the time the phones are kept by the unit commander. It is recommended to purchase Megafon SIM cards.

Oath of allegiance to the Russian Federation

Military unit 23511 pays monetary allowances to servicemen on the VTB-24 card. There are no ATMs of this bank in Mozdok. From allowances, soldiers buy household chemicals, as well as household appliances. Payments to employees of the brigade are quite high. Relatives usually give soldiers a Sberbank of Russia card.
The military hospital is located in the garrison. The unit also has a medical service and an infirmary.
