Lake Heviz is a large thermal lake in Europe. The area of ​​the lake is 4.4 hectares, depth is 38 m. A warm water source feeds the lake, the temperature in summer is 35C, in winter it is 25C, so you can swim in it throughout the year.

Archaeological excavations show that people lived on the territory of the town of Heviz as early as 7,000 years ago. In the era of Ancient Rome, there was a rich villa with central heating, for which thermal waters were used. At the same time, the Romans also knew about the healing properties of these waters - an ancient sanctuary found in the vicinity of the lake testifies to this.

During the Middle Ages, the first settlements appeared around the reservoir, in particular, the town of Heviz was first mentioned in manuscripts from the beginning of the 14th century. It is known that its inhabitants used the thermal waters, but it only became an official resort in the 18th century. It all started with the fact that in 1769 the famous physicist and chemist Ferenc Slaby made an analysis of the composition of water and a detailed description of its beneficial properties. In 1795, the territory near the reservoir was purchased by the Hungarian aristocrat György Festetics, who began the construction of baths.

The resort complex of Fertitić developed and grew until the Second World War. In the post-war period, it was nationalized, and a state clinic appeared here. Today it is still working, but now it is a large treatment center that combines the Hévíz baths and the rheumatological hospital of St. Andrew.

How to get from Budapest from Keleti railway station:

Option 1

Train: take the electric train G10 to the Budapest-Kahlenfel station for about 15 minutes.

Train: transfer to the electric train 1876 Balaton and go to the city of Keszthely for about 2.5 hours.

Bus: take routes no. 1736, 6216 or 6415 from the bus station at the Keszthely station to get to the Hévíz stop, 20 minutes on the way.

Underground: take the M4 green line to Kelenföld vasútállomás station for about 15 minutes.

Lake Heviz is a huge and surprisingly clean body of water measuring 47.5 sq.m. It is surrounded by trees and bushes, in which the entire resort town is buried. Beautiful pink water lilies grow in the reservoir itself - they were brought here from India and took root so well that they became the hallmark of Heviz.

The pink lotus of Lake Heviz is the symbol of the city of Heviz, depicted on its flag. They were specially brought from India for this lake. They are not allowed to be plucked or touched.

In its shape, the lake resembles a funnel with a minimum depth at the edge and a maximum in the center.

Water comes from three sources:

• two thermal;
• one mineral.

The temperature of these keys located at the bottom is from +17 to +38 degrees, but since they are mixed, the water will be approximately the same everywhere.

• Each visitor is given an electronic bracelet, with which you can unlock the locker for things, go to different areas of the spa and control the time of the visit.

• Absolutely healthy people can swim in Lake Heviz for no more than 1.5 hours a day, breaking this time into sessions of no more than 30 minutes. Visitors with rheumatic diseases are advised to bathe no more than half an hour for 15 minutes.
• Since the depth of the reservoir reaches 38 m in some places, it is recommended to take inflatable rings and other bathing devices.
• It is not worth actively swimming in the radon lake - the load on the heart is too great; It's better to just lie on the water.

• Going to Heviz, it is advisable to take a towel, a bathrobe, beach shoes, an inflatable ring with you - this will save on rental.
• For a therapeutic effect, a course lasting at least 10 days is needed. If you come for one day, you can only count on rest and a slight improvement in skin condition.
• On bathing days, lunchtime sleep will be useful - it will help the body tune in to recovery.
