Before starting the adventure in Thronebreaker: The Witcher. Stories" and lead your own army to face the invaders of Nilfgaard, it's worth spending some time and learning some general tips that can help you win.

1. Wrong decision

If you make a mistake when making a story-related choice, you can still undo it. Wait for the narrator to say your choice, and if you don't like it, minimize the game and turn it off. What is very important, you must do this before you go to view the game, because then the course of the story will be saved automatically. After restarting the game, you will be able to load the previous progress and solve the problem in a different way.

Remember that when you take a chapel, the army's increased morale will only survive one encounter. After the battle is over, morale will return to neutral status.

3. Talk to all characters

Take a moment and try to talk to every character you meet along the way. Sometimes you have to listen to all the questions, but it can be worth it. Some people in the kingdom will offer you a small donation to lead an army, others will give you a piece of a map or a map leading to a treasure, and others will want to join your army.

During story fights, try to focus on achieving the goal. Sometimes it's not worth fighting the whole army if it's enough to defeat the commander to force his army to surrender.

5. Lose a round to win the war!

Losing a round in Thronebreaker: The Witcher. History" does not mean defeat in the war! Sometimes it pays to let your opponent win in order to start the next round with better position and card advantage in hand.

If you initiate combat and start first, place a unit on the battlefield that will have a chance to activate your skills on the next round. Avoid playing units that cause a specific effect, such as displacements that attack enemy units. Keep ranged units until a target appears on the board.

7. Pay attention to the type of fight

Sometimes the fight will be limited to only winning round 1, so check out the rules of the fight before making any decision.

Moreover, here you will find shortcuts to the most important functions of the game, such as entering the camp, the world map, and accessing combat reports.

As you traverse the vast world of Thronebreaker: The Witcher. Stories", you will perform many tasks, including making important decisions, as well as managing the kingdom and rationally distributing resources. Moreover, as Meve, Queen of Lyria and Rivia, you sometimes have to decide the life or death of your subjects and resolve their conflicts.

Thronebreaker: The Witcher. Stories" allows the player to direct the story by making the right choices in the story. Choosing the appropriate options, you can be guided by your preferences or the good of the kingdom and its subjects. You can be merciful or extremely harsh. You can save the lives of villagers, traitors and even enemies. On the other hand, you can also condemn everyone to death. But know that every decision you make will have some irreversible consequences that will sometimes be very surprising. It is worth mentioning here that some situations will not be a good solution and you may have to choose the lesser evil. Before making an important fictional decision, think carefully about the consequences.

As you explore the world of the game, you will have to respond to the requests of residents affected by the current situation in the country. Some of them have lost all their possessions and will demand compensation, while others will find themselves in a crumbling building and will be waiting for your help. But nothing comes for free.

  • If you want to help the residents, you will have to decide what resources you will devote to solving the problem. Some activities will require financial resources, while others will require the initiation of several recruits from your army.
  • Helping the villagers can bring rewards such as map fragments, a map leading to treasure, additional resources, or a bonus to army morale.

As you move around the map, look for green ribbons. Look for tree trunks, crates, carts, and other storage areas where you can find valuable raw materials. When you are near a source of raw materials, you will see an icon in your hand that indicates that the items can be picked up.

Overcoming obstacles on the ground

As in the case of making decisions to support the inhabitants of the kingdom, overcoming field obstacles requires the use of certain resources, which can be sacrificed or have a negative impact on the morale of the army. Some problems can be solved with gold and wood, but others will require the donation of a few recruits from your army.

When you want to make a decision that will have a negative effect on the morale of your soldiers, but save resources, look first to see if there is a chapel nearby. If so, first clear the obstacle and then use the chapel to restore the morale of the army to normal.

Use the pointers to quickly navigate the map. To do this, simply open the world map and click on one of the markers marked earlier. After a while, your character will move to the specified location without having to walk.

Shrines provide a bonus to the morale of your army. By clicking on the shrine, you can get +1 morale point, which will allow you to increase the satisfaction of the troops, and this in turn will be reflected in their statistics.

At the beginning of the game, the card in Thronebreaker: The Witcher. Stories" has very few markers. The player himself must find raw materials, puzzles, battlefields or other interesting places. Scouts come to the rescue, as they know how to check the surroundings and put certain markers on the map. With the help of this information, the player can plan his further journey and be sure that no potential prey will be missed.

Before you can use this option, you must first build a watchtower from a workshop. To send scouts to scout, simply go to the main map view and click the scout icon. Remember that the intelligence service costs 50 gold coins.

For help, Meva can get treasure maps from the inhabitants of the kingdom. Points where you can find a chest with valuable loot are marked on them. The places marked on the map are very characteristic, so they are hard to miss when wandering around the map.

When you are close to the marked area, a shovel icon will appear in the area. To get the treasure, just right-click in the indicated place. After a while, you will receive a treasure chest.

It was planned as a story addition to the Gwent card game, but later turned into an independent game, which is inapplicably pleasing. As a result, "Bloodfeud" is a single-player role-playing game that takes place in the world of The Witcher. The game combines story, exploration and card battles. In other words, everything in order:

The game takes place before the events of the trilogy of games about Geralt. And Geralt himself is not the main character this time. The plot of the game will introduce us closer to the warlike Meve, the queen of Rivia and Lyria

Meve is the Queen Dowager of Lyria and Rivia. He has two sons, whom, however, he does not favor too much, not caring at all about their fate. Known among the rulers of the northern kingdoms for her wisdom, female intuition and beauty, which, however, did not prevent her, along with Demavend, the king of Aedirn, from unleashing a full-scale war with Nilfgaard, which almost ended for her in the loss of her kingdom.

According to the plot, Meva will have to repulse the invaders in the person of Nilfgaard and prevent the enemy from seizing their lands


In addition to Geralt, in the game we will meet many characters from the book saga about the Witcher, such as: Bruver Goog - the elder of the dwarves and the sole ruler of Mahakam. King Demavend III - the vain and power-hungry ruler of Aedirn


In addition to the story, there are over 75 side quests in the game.

The duration of the game is more than 30 hours, 20 different endings, and more dialogues were written for the game than for the addition "Hearts of Stone"

The game world consists of five large-scale 2D maps. We will have to visit such places as - Lyria, Rivia, Aedirn, Mahakam and Angren

The card battle system has been redesigned. The card field has become more gloomy and animated, there are now two rows for your cards on the battlefield. Almost every fight will be unique, with its own challenges and puzzles

  • Each card corresponds to a character from the game. As you travel around the world, you will meet different heroes and you can add their cards to your deck to use in battles.

    As the game progresses, you will have to make decisions and face their consequences. So, if you act against the interests of your allies, their cards may disappear from your deck.

    Completing the entire story campaign will unlock premium animated maps, additional multiplayer avatars, frames, and titles.

In general, "Bloodfeud" is a great reason to return to the world of The Witcher and a good move from the reds to introduce players to gwent (in which a large-scale update will take place with the release of the game and the game will completely change) closer, through a new and exciting story game.

    A year ago CD Project Red announced a story campaign for "Gwent" called Gwent: Thronebreaker - or, in the Russian version, "Gwent: Thronebreaker". But over the year of development, the concept of the project has changed dramatically. For starters, the word "Gwent" is no longer here - the game is now called Thronebreaker: The Witcher. Stories"(respectively, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales) and comes out as a completely independent product, and only in the store GOG. I visited the head office of the Polish studio and found out what the legendary developers are offering us this time.

    Wanted the best

    Something similar happened a year ago Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. AT Naughty Dog all they wanted was to make a cozy addition to Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, but in the end they went so far that it turned out to be a full-fledged game only two times shorter than the fourth part. Initially, CD PROJEKT RED was also going to make a “simple” story campaign for Gwent: most likely, they wanted to involve those who went through the third The Witcher not for the sake of card battles, but still for the sake of history. But there were more and more good ideas, and within the framework of Gwent, the plot became frankly cramped.

    So now they are releasing a standalone project with thirty hours of gameplay, and its subtitle contains an eerily fat hint. "Witcher. Stories ”, much clearer: there will be good sales - there will be more such games for you. True, perhaps the performance of Thronebreaker itself is not as important as the number of new users it will attract to Gwent. Moreover, very soon global gameplay changes await him, some of which are probably related to how he is used in this project.



    In the new game, we are waiting for more than seventy-five additional quests, twenty options for prefabricated endings and more dialogue lines than in the addition "Hearts of Stone" for the third "The Witcher". And most importantly, all this is translated and fully voiced in twelve languages, including Russian!

    Unlike the format, the story line has not changed. We play as Meve, the queen of Lyria and Rivia - she appeared on the pages of The Witcher Saga, but Andrzej Sapkowski did not dwell on her fate in detail. One way or another, at the beginning of the game, the army of Nilfgaard attacks her lands, and our task will be to lead Meva to victory in a bloody conflict. In the books, these events are called the Second Northern War, or the Second War with Nilfgaard - it is against its background that the fourth and subsequent volumes of the original saga take place.

    Consequently, at the start of the game, Ciri is running around somewhere in the desert of Korat and is just beginning to realize her abilities; Geralt in the Brokilon forest moves away from the fight with Vilgefortz; and Yennefer and Triss are plotting as part of the newly formed Lodge of Enchantresses (or, as Yennefer puts it, "the international women's republic"). Nevertheless, the developers do not exclude that in the course of their wanderings, Meva may meet one of those who fell in love with the players in the main witcher trilogy.

    Loot boxes! Oh no, wait...

    Despite a much closer connection with the books, Andrzej Sapkowski did not work on Thronebreaker even as a consultant. But the Poles themselves have already become fairly imbued with this world for almost two decades of work on the series.

    Division of labor

    The gameplay in front of us is a classic role-playing game with isometrics, exploration of locations and a lot of dialogues and plot choices. The only global difference is in the combat system, which works according to the rules of gwent.

    In addition, unlike many more solid projects of the RPG genre, three almost independent components can be distinguished here at once: travel, camping and battles - plus a dialogue system. All of these components are so independent that they each have their own game screens.

    And then they shot me in the knee?

    The plot is presented in a purely bookish style: with text vignettes, illustrations and the voice of the narrator. As if the developers were seriously thinking about turning the game into a pure D&D experience, but changed their minds at the last moment. But the dialogues in the game are animated - as usual, many of them have far (or not very far) reaching consequences, and some answers will open (or close) entire side branches. In general, fans of replays will be satisfied.

    On the world map, we control Meve's avatar on foot (in fact, her army, advisers, and others are hidden under it at the same time). We walk around the villages, communicate with local and our own companions, look for resources for pumping: money, wood and recruits.





    Meve's path lies through five map-kingdoms, in each of which you will spend five to six hours. These are Lyria, Rivia, Mahakam, Angren and Aedirn. In the games, we visited only the last one - in "Killers of Kings"

    From the world map, you can switch to the camp screen at any time - here the gameplay evokes thoughts more about a city-building simulator. The combination is obtained in the spirit of what was in Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom: Each building in the camp gives access to improvements that are useful either on the battlefield (for example, new unit cards) or when traveling (for example, bonuses to speed or collection of resources).

    There is also a royal tent with all the documents and letters that you come across. And next to it is a dining room where you can chat with your companions and learn more about their personal stories. But most of the buildings are still focused on developing your deck, which brings us to the combat system screens.

    Almost all encountered interactive objects are marked on the map. It is possible that the developers will put the names of the villages on it - it will be useful for completing side tasks

    In addition to chatty companions, a mysterious character sits in the camp dining room, who closely monitors the player and collects statistics on his progress on the map and plot.

    Gwent 3.0

    The outcome of battles in Thronebreaker depends on your ability to play gwent. True, there are enough differences from both previous incarnations of this CCI. The most important of them is that there are only two rows for your and enemy cards here instead of three, and there are no "class" restrictions between them. Any card can fall into any row, and the properties of some of them are directly related to which cards are to the right and left of it.

    Since Thronebreaker is an exclusively single-player project, here the developers did not have to build the most difficult balance between decks on opposite sides of the barricades, and they were able to experiment with mechanics that would be impossible in multiplayer Gwent. Want a squad with 100 strength? Why not! Do you need a messenger who will bring an entire army behind him? There is also one like this. There are more than 250 cards in the game, and twenty of them are completely new, created specifically for the single player campaign, by the end of which the army of Meve will turn into an invincible and fearless army.

    This is what the battlefields look like now

    Gwent is needed not only in battles, but also in some non-military events. For example, one day the queen and her army fall under a collapse. Meva takes cover behind the wagon, on the second game row, and the player, using the properties of his cards, must destroy the falling stones, which move one row forward with each move. If one of them “rolls” to the row of the queen, she will die.

    There are also puzzle battles with certain conditions. For example, some battles only last up to one win instead of two, as in a standard gwent. And once I came across a particularly annoying enemy leader who “lived” in my ranks and received damage only if the two cards around him surpassed him in total strength. As soon as he didn’t like something, he jumped to my other row and constantly confused all plans: it was necessary to catch him and fight off other opponent’s cards.

    Decisions don't have to be far-reaching; you'll come across many such minor choices as you travel. The morale of the troops sometimes depends on your decrees. It can be low, normal, or high — and depending on its state, the level of all your cards in the next battle will receive bonuses ranging from -1 to +1 to strength

    In general, I am absolutely sure that the main task of Thronebreaker is to increase the audience of the updated Gwent. After all, in the main menu of this "standalone" project there is a "multiplayer" button that... launches the Gwent client! By the way, this will also work in the opposite direction: in multiplayer there will be a button leading to Thronebreaker.

    Therefore, there is a feeling that the upcoming changes in the main "Gwent" will bring it to the same form as in the adventures of Meva. Otherwise, those who enter multiplayer after Thronebreaker will have to relearn - which is unlikely to cause at least some positive emotions.

    Moreover, unlike the current version of Gwent, Thronebreaker does not implement drag&drop — everything works only on clicks, no dragging of cards. This in itself takes some getting used to and doesn't seem intuitive. On the other hand, given that now it is important to remember not only about the row, but also about the position of the cards relative to each other, such a mechanic should provoke fewer errors.
