On October 18, an official statement from Xiaomi regarding the release date of MIUI9 Stable Version and stable release of the 9th version appeared in the Chinese MIUI community. How much longer to wait and what are the prospects?

Xiaomi announced the release of MIUI9 along with the launch of Mi 5X in the Chinese market. But that was three months ago.

  • Latest .

Now there are more than 300 million MIUI users and every Xiaomi smartphone requires a certain approach. Therefore, developers are forced to delay the release of the expected stable version of MIUI 9 for so long.

Fans are happy with any information leak, the main thing is that it be official and reliable. Many are simply already tired of looking for answers on the forums, not understanding the difference between weekly and monthly firmware, stable and beta.

Huang Longzhon, Deputy Director of Marketing, explains the situation each time.

We understand that we make our users unnecessarily wait for the promised updates. But a company cannot take the risk of running an unstable version of its software. If mistakes start to pour in one after another, this will lead to a massive negative mood and a real disaster.

Someone will notice that users have been hearing this excuse for a whole month and it's like believing the promises of officials.

It is reliably known that Xiaomi Mi 6 already has MIUI9 Stable Version 9.0.2.0. Therefore, it is expected that users of the flagship Mi 6 will be the first to appreciate all the charms of the stable 9-ki.

Redmi 5A was also shown at the festival in Poland. According to system information - .

Friends, we receive a lot of questions about firmware. I propose, finally, to dot the "I", and deal with MIUI firmware for Xiaomi devices. There are a lot of them and they are very diverse. But today, we will try to divide them into several types and types. You can view the list of official firmware for your Xiaomi device on this page.

So, what kind of firmware are there? Consider two main types:

  1. China ROM
  2. Global ROM

1. China ROM

These firmwares are intended for the domestic Chinese market. They do not have Russian language support (but there is English) and are full of various services that will not work (or are useless) in other countries. Letters in the name CN, such as "MIUI 8.2 | Stable 8.2.6.0 (MAD CN DL)".

2.Global ROM

These are the so-called global firmware. They are multilingual and designed for the European market. They have Russian language support. As a rule, almost all or all menu items are translated. Hieroglyphs and Chinese applications are carved from them. The title has the word Global or global, also, letters MI. For example, "MIUI Global 8.5 Stable 8.5.3.0 (MHO MI ED)".

These two types, in turn, can be divided into types:

  1. Developer ROM
  2. Stable ROM
  3. Ported ROM

1. Developer ROM

This is a firmware for developers. It contains the latest and most relevant features, and new items that have not yet been released to the masses. But there are a lot of bugs, as well as flaws. Actually, its main purpose is testing. Published and updated weekly. Support update over the air (OTA).

The name has three numbers that indicate the year, date and month of the release of the firmware. For example, "MIUI9 7.11.9 ”, says that it was released in 2017, in the 11th month (November), on the 9th.

2. Stable ROM

From the name it is clear that these are stable firmware. Installed on smartphones for sale. This is what will stand on yours if you purchase it in a store. They are stable, have a minimum of bugs and, in general, are preferable for installation if you do not want to have unnecessary problems in the operation of the device. Released and updated infrequently. The title has the word Stable and four numbers that indicate the version. They also support OTA updates.

3 Ported ROM

These are the so-called assemblies from third-party developers, like miui.su, miuipro, xiaomi.eu, etc. Such firmwares are reworked and supplemented by people who are not directly related to Xiaomi, i.e. not official. However, that doesn't mean they are bad. Some work quite well and stably. Also, such teams are engaged in the localization of Chinese firmware for other markets, because Xiaomi does not always release global firmware. You can recognize them when you boot your phone. Each team has its own logo, which is displayed when turned on. Actually, the name is written there. Their release schedule is varied and each team has its own.

In addition to the above, there are also copyright firmware. As a rule, these are firmware upgraded by one person. He added or removed from them what he saw fit. You need to put them with caution, because. The intentions of the developer are not known to you for certain. names usually consist of three numbers, for example 7.10.26.

The last option we will highlight is self-made firmware. They can rather be attributed to the author's, but their quality leaves much to be desired, if not to say that it is terrible. The name has four or five numbers, for example: 8.2.15.10 , which can be greater than 10.

You can easily view your firmware version by going to:

  • Settings—>About phone
  • We find the line "Version MIUI".

Many fans of the Xiaomi brand are looking forward to new products from this well-known smartphone manufacturer. So, the company should soon present its new operating system Miui 9.

Why is the ninth version of this software so intriguing for users and for which models will it be relevant?

It should be noted right away that this update will not be available for all smartphones. In particular, the owners of Xiaomi Mi5, Mi 6, Mi 5c, Mi MIX, Mi Note 2, Mi Pad 3, Redmi 4X, Redmi Note 4, Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s will be able to evaluate its performance Plus.

But for models such as Mi2 / 2S, Redmi 2/2, Pro Redmi Note 2 (2/16 GB and 3/32 GB), Mi3, Mi4, Mi Note / ProMi Pad, the new version of Miui will not be available (questionable remains Mi4C).

New opportunities

As it became known, the new development, which will appear very soon, including in Russia, will be able to please the owners of the gadgets of this company with the screen splitting function, which makes it possible to support the simultaneous operation of several applications in three different scenarios, the ability to record the screen, and the function " Picture-in-Picture (PIP).

The last possibility is worth mentioning in more detail. When using this option, you can watch the video in parallel with any other daily tasks. This window is located at the top of the screen, but its position can be changed by dragging. And its content will continue to play. However, if necessary, this process can always be paused.

According to the developers, the new shell, which will definitely appear in the Russian Federation, will differ significantly from the latest version of this product from Xiaomi.

In particular, there was information that it will be smoother, more stable and functional. In addition, MIUI 9 will allow you to remove unnecessary system applications. In addition, the company wants Android device owners to have access to applications from MIUI. The main idea that has been successfully implemented in this version is an intuitive and well-structured menu, as well as a more accurate and user-friendly interface.

When to expect?

More details will be available in the release, but you should definitely expect this version to be a pleasure to use. Control functions will become simpler and clearer, as well as other features, so gadget users can only look forward to when this new software comes out. It is worth noting that the company is preparing for its release in the most thorough way, trying to fully meet the expectations of its customers.

In any case, whenever a new model comes out, and we still hope that this will happen in July, the interest in it is huge. And this is quite justified, because Xiaomi, which has been improving its work on smartphones for 7 years now, will be able to implement all innovative technologies in this version of the MIUI proprietary firmware and offer its customers a really high-quality product that will be in demand on the market from the moment it appears. .

After about 20 days of waiting, Mi 5X fell into my hands. While waiting, I looked through almost all the Russian-language reviews of the device, so there was nothing special to surprise. However, as it happens, the smartphone surprised.

It is worth starting with the appearance. Before that, I managed to hold Redmi Note 5X in my hands, and we can say that smartphones are very similar in all respects. If you look at the Mi 5X from the front, you can easily confuse the device with the Redmi Note 5X. However, if you look at the device sideways, it immediately becomes clear that the Mi 5X is much more attractive due to the thin body. When the device lies on the table with the screen up, it can be mistaken for the iPhone 7 Plus due to the thin body and the similar shape of the side curves. In addition, the navigation buttons on the front panel are completely invisible when turned off.

The back of the Mi 5X is very reminiscent of OnePlus 5. And during the day of using the device, I often caught myself deciding to pick up the device only to once again examine its back panel.

In addition, the coating of the case was also surprising. In Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, which we reviewed earlier, it had a rougher metal, due to which it was not so pleasant to hold the device in your hands. Here the metal is very smooth and pleasant to the touch. The color of the metal itself is also pleasing (the black version was purchased).

Separately, I want to note the correct arrangement of the elements on the lower end. Everything is symmetrical, the speaker is located in the right place, the diameter of the cuts for the speaker on the case is also optimal, the 3.5 mm headphone jack looks very tiny. The volume buttons and the power button sit tightly in the case, but there is very little backlash.

At the top there is an infrared port and a microphone. The tray for SIM cards and a microSD card is plastic, but it has metal inserts around the entire perimeter, which also indicates that the design of the smartphone was approached with meticulous attention to detail.

Mi 5X works out of the box on MIUI 8. There is no global firmware yet, and it’s not a fact that it will be at all, because there is no global version of Mi 5X. Therefore, the smartphone is supplied by sellers mainly with official Chinese firmware, where there is no Russian language and there are many unnecessary Chinese applications.

Not to say that MIUI 8 works perfectly on Mi 5X. While watching a movie through the Google Chrome browser, very often the page reloaded, thereby resetting the video. After working with the camera, the screen brightness becomes almost minimal. And every time after exiting the camera application, you have to increase the brightness of the display manually.

In addition, out of 4 GB of RAM, about 2 GB are free. Where the other two go is unclear. Therefore, it will be necessary to flash the smartphone after purchase in any case.

You can already download the ported firmware from Mi A1 and install it on Mi 5X. At the same time, no bugs and glitches in the firmware were noticed due to the identity of the hardware component of both devices.

To install pure Android from Mi A1 on Mi 5X you need:

Create Mi account

Download and install VPN Turbo, select the Chinese server in the application

In the developer settings, you need to go to the section for viewing the status of unlocking the bootloader and click on the button at the bottom of the window

Then install TWRP and the firmware itself

At this stage, 72 hours have not yet passed since the smartphone was linked to the Mi account, so we will publish the experience of using the Mi 5X on the Mi A1 firmware a little later.

We do not want to dwell on the camera in more detail, we will pay special attention to it. I'll just leave a couple of sample photos taken with the Mi 5X below:

Normal mode with HDR enabled Portrait mode (apple slightly out of focus)

It is also worth noting the lack of HDR support in portrait mode, as well as the rather poor quality of the front camera. In the rest, while the camera only pleases.

In terms of autonomy, some conclusions can be drawn already now. The smartphone is able to work without problems for 1-2 days. Of course, in terms of autonomy, the device cannot be compared with Redmi Note 3 Pro, but still, at first glance, Mi 5X has pretty good autonomy.

The performance of the Mi 5X is average, and if you're into heavy gaming, the Mi 5X is not for you. Snapdragon 625 is a fairly average processor that does not cause a storm of positive emotions. Xiaomi did not rely on performance. Mi 5X is more about design and camera.
