Huawei ascend p7 l10 change screen resolution. Smartphone Huawei Ascend P7: reviews, specifications and specifications. Communication between devices in mobile networks is carried out through technologies that provide different transmission speeds
A month ago. It will appear on store shelves closer to August. Before sales start, you have the opportunity to find out what the Huawei Ascend P7 is capable of and whether it can surpass its predecessor, which quite deservedly received a lot of various awards around the world. Despite subtle differences in design, it has become better in everything: a larger screen and higher resolution, new cameras, a more capacious battery, an updated version of the proprietary shell and the current version of Android, a new hardware platform, high-quality sound in headphones. But the most important thing is that it still attracts attention, which means that we have before us not just an advanced smartphone, but also a thing capable of emphasizing the delicate taste of its owner.
Equipment
We got the smartphone for a test in a cardboard box inside which we found a 1A AC adapter, a USB cable and a paperclip to remove slots for SIM and microSD cards. Note that this is not a commercial sample, so we cannot say that exactly the same set of accessories will be present in the store version. It is possible that in addition to the accompanying documentation, there will be a headset in the kit.
Design and ergonomics
Despite the fact that the company calls the design of the Ascend P7 something completely new, the features of its predecessor are recognizable in the smartphone. In order to match the times, manufacturers are trying not only to equip the smartphone with the latest technology, but also to make the frames minimal. Was no exception and Ascend P7. The thickness of the frames on the sides of the screen is three millimeters. For reference, the same thickness (we are talking about the distance from the edge of the case to the screen) in the LG G3.
The front side is covered with tempered glass Gorilla Glass 3 with a high-quality oleophobic layer. A hole was made in the upper part for the speaker grid, which received a slightly different design. To the right of it are proximity and light sensors, as well as an 8 megapixel camera lens. The missed events indicator is located above the speaker grid. When there are calls or messages, it flashes green, while charging - red, when the battery is charged - green.
With the exception of the bottom end, all faces are flat, made of metal. In order not to crash into the hand, the corners of the case are beveled. In the rounded bottom end, two slots were made, one small for a microphone, the second for connecting a USB cable. This part of the body is made of matte plastic. It shows no fingerprints or minor abrasions.
The left side is empty. On the right, from top to bottom, there are: volume key, power / lock key, microSIM slot, and microSD cards. The volume and power keys protrude above the case at the same distance, while the power button is located in a small recess. The key travel is minimal, with a noticeable click when triggered.
At the top end there is a headphone jack and a hole for the second microphone. It's nice that the company revised the design of the device and placed the headphone jack in a more familiar place than the left side face.
Tempered glass Gorilla Glass is also used as the main material for the back of the case. Under the glass you can see an iridescent pattern. It not only attracts attention, but also hides fingerprints. The panel itself consists of seven different layers, apparently this gives it additional strength.
In addition to the pattern, the 13 megapixel camera lens with a slightly protruding metal rim framing it, a flash LED (can be used as a flashlight), the manufacturer's logo, technical information and a vertical speaker grid attract attention.
In addition to two slots, there are no other removable or sliding elements in the case. Due to this, the rigidity is at a very high level, the case does not lend itself to twisting, does not creak when squeezed and has no backlash. The smartphone is comfortable in the hand. Using one hand is helped by various software tricks, which we will discuss in the next section.

Operating system and shell
The smartphone uses its own EmotionUI 2.3 shell based on the Android 4.4.2 operating system.
Unlike the last one that was in our editorial office, Ascend P7 has a more recent version of the shell. The main changes affected the lock screen. In addition to the quick launch of the camera (the icon is located in the lower right corner of the screen), a pop-up menu has appeared. To call it, you need to swipe up from the bottom of the screen. The transparent window contains shortcuts for four applications (calendar, calculator, flashlight, mirror) and keys for changing wallpapers and sending them to other devices. The splash screen list is constantly updated via the network (the refresh function can be disabled). Unlocking the screen is accompanied by a beautiful animation.
In the smartphone settings there is an item "Control button". When activated, a transparent semicircle appears at the edge of the screen (its location can be changed to the left or right, as well as moved up and down), clicking on which opens a menu in the form of a circle with five shortcuts ("Back", "Home", "Favorites" , Lock Screen, and Clean). By selecting a menu with favorites, new ones appear in place of the current shortcuts: "Player", "Messages", "Calculator", "Calendar" and "Notes". All of them open as thumbnails and have a transparent background, which allows them to be used on top of other windows. Only one pop-up window can be running at a time.
Among the gestures there are such familiar ones as "Flip", used to mute the sound, for example, when an incoming call, "Take" - reduce the volume of the ringtone when you pick up the phone, "Bring it to your ear" - automatically answer when you receive a call, " Shake" and "Tilt".
The dial pad allows you to search for contacts written in Latin and Cyrillic. There is no possibility to record phone calls. In text messages, you can adjust the font size with a pinch-to-zoom gesture.
From the applications there are a file manager, Phone Manager (memory optimization and monitoring of energy consumption), Mirror (turning on the front camera), a flashlight, a voice recorder, FM radio with minimal functionality, a magnifying glass, Polaris Office, Smart Tag and standard a set that includes Google apps.
The operation of the interface, including smoothness, did not raise any questions, everything works as you would expect from a flagship - smoothly and without delays.
Hardware platform
Huawei Ascend P7 is based on the new HiSilicon Kirin 910T hardware platform. This single-chip system is manufactured using a 28 nm process technology and contains four Cortex-A9 processor cores operating at a clock speed of up to 1.8 GHz, and a Mali-450 MP graphics core. The amount of RAM is 2 GB, the amount of permanent memory is 16 GB, of which 11.1 GB is available to the user. The memory can be expanded with memory cards and flash drives.
The performance of the new chip is average, showing results comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro (Snapdragon 600) chips. The Ascend P7 does not reach the level of the current flagships in this parameter, but such a task was not faced by the developers. Huawei Honor 6 will compete with them, the announcement of which is scheduled for June 24.
There is no separate player for watching videos, you can start the movie through the gallery or file manager. The smartphone is tough on Full HD video, only AC3 audio tracks are not played, so if you plan to use your smartphone as a multimedia center, we recommend installing a third-party application.

The sound volume through the speaker is average, in the headphones it is high, that is, sufficient even for such noisy places as the subway. The sound quality is good here and there. The same statement is true of the sound when listening to music, however, unlike video, a separate player is provided for music. Support for the FLAC codec will be a nice bonus.
The speed of data exchange in a Wi-Fi network (standard n) is close to the maximum. The speed of searching for satellites is very high, 12 seconds at the first start (cold start) and 2 seconds at the second start. The quality of Wi-Fi signal reception does not cause any complaints. The volume of the speaker is not high, in noisy places you have to press the smartphone hard to your ear, since it becomes difficult to make out the interlocutor.
The autonomy of Huawei Ascend P7 can be called quite decent, as for such a thin smartphone. The smartphone is powered by a 2500 mAh battery. With normal use, the P7 easily lasts for 24 hours. In active mode, you can count on a working day. For rational use of energy in the smartphone, there are several power saving modes. "Normal" - no different from the standard operation of Android, "Smart" - adjusts the processor clock speed, and "Energy Saving". In the latter, all wireless modules are turned off, the brightness and backlight time of the display are reduced, leaving calls and messages available.
In the Antutu Tester application, the smartphone scored 546 points - a good indicator, closer to high, in GFXBench - 134 minutes. The results of two-hour tests are shown in the table.

Display
The smartphone is equipped with a 5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels (441 ppi). The matrix is made using In-Cell technology - without an air gap between the screen and glass, which has a positive effect on viewing angles, and colors making them brighter and more saturated.
In the screen settings, you can enable increased sensitivity that allows you to control the device with gloves, as well as adjust the color temperature.
Brightness values are in the range from 10 cd / m² to 401 cd / m², values of 25, 50, 65 and 75% brightness correspond to 116.3, 226.2, 276.8 and 314.3 cd / m². Automatic brightness control works correctly, raising or lowering the intensity of the backlight based on the level of ambient light.
Checking the factory calibration showed very decent results, especially good results were achieved by moving the color temperature adjustment slider about half the scale to the left (towards warm).

cameras
Huawei has long made it a rule to equip its smartphones with good cameras. The matter is not limited only to the choice of the matrix and lens system, the manufacturer pays a lot of attention to the software component. Ascend P7 has two modules, 13 MP and 8 MP manufactured by Sony. The aperture of the main camera is f/2.0, the front one is f/2.4.
The startup speed is high, the focusing speed is also noticeably faster than its predecessor. All this was announced at the announcement of the smartphone. It turned out that these were not empty words. Then it was said about some special work of the camera when you double-press the volume key. It turned out that it was about launching the camera, followed by shooting, by double-pressing the key responsible for lowering the volume. All this happens in less than 2 seconds, and the smartphone honestly admits how much time was spent on the process, sometimes 1.8 seconds, sometimes 1.4, and under good conditions, the claimed 1.2 seconds. I would like to see something similar in all devices. You never know when you'll need such a feature. The only thing to consider is that the focus is set to infinity, so for shooting insects it is best to use the "Normal" mode.
The viewfinder interface is standard for the EmotionUI shell. There are many settings, separate keys for taking pictures and recording videos.
You can evaluate the quality of the cameras by the examples below. Recall that our copy is not the final sample, the quality may change.

Results
The Huawei P-series line of smartphones is the manufacturer's way of showing consumers that smartphones can be not only functional, but also attractive devices. These were Ascend P1, Ascend P6, this is Ascend P7. The smartphone does not claim to be the most productive device, but its capabilities are more than enough for all the usual tasks, including modern games and watching Full HD video. At the same time, it has good autonomy, as for such a thin smartphone, good cameras and sound in headphones, a smooth and easily customizable shell, an excellent 5-inch screen, compact dimensions and the necessary set of wireless modules including NFC.

Smartphone
Reviews, specifications, specifications and other important information - all this will be discussed in detail in the article. Despite the fact that this device went on sale in May 2014, even now its capabilities are enough to solve a wide range of tasks.
Smartphone hardware
Powerful computing resources are at the heart of the Huawei Ascend P7. Owner reviews indicate that this gadget copes with the task of any level of complexity. Because it is equipped with HiSilicon Kirin quad-core 910T processor. Each core at maximum load is capable of operating at a frequency of 1.8 GHz and is built on the Cortex-A9 architecture. It is important to understand one important point here. 4 cores of A7 architecture will be weaker than A9. In turn, a similar processor with exactly the same number of computing modules on the A15 will be more productive than the A9. The Cortex-A15 architecture is still quite rare. Therefore, this processor boasts an excellent level of computing power. Complements the CPU graphics adapter model 450 MP from Mali. In terms of its performance, this solution belongs to the top segment. Such hardware resources are more than enough to solve any task: from surfing websites to demanding 3D games. A smartphone can easily handle all this.
Display and cameras
Now let's take a look at the other components of the Huawei Ascend P7 graphics system. A review without describing them will be incomplete. The diagonal of the display is impressive - 5 inches. Its resolution is 1920 dots by 1080 dots. That is, the picture on it is displayed in full "HD" quality. Another "feature" of this model is the absence of an air gap between the sensor and the display. Due to this, viewing angles are significantly increased, and the picture becomes much better. Two cameras are installed in this gadget at once. And both are good quality. One of them, at 8 megapixels, is displayed on the front of the device. It allows you to make video calls in networks of the 3rd or 4th generation, as well as using specialized software. The second camera is already 13 megapixels, and it is located on the back cover. A special system of 5 lenses allows you to use it to take phenomenal photos and videos. The latter are recorded in a resolution of 1920 pixels by 1080 pixels, that is, in full "HD" quality.
Memory Subsystem
The memory subsystem of Huawei Ascend P7 is excellently built. Feedback from happy owners is proof of this. The RAM in this smartphone is 2 GB of the DDR3 standard. This is enough for a comfortable and smooth operation of the device. Built-in memory in it 8 GB. Of these, about 6 GB is allocated for the needs of the user. They are quite enough to install a lot of programs and place 5-6 movies in MP3 quality. You can significantly increase the amount of memory by installing an external flash drive with a maximum size of 32 GB.
Ergonomics, housing and usability
An interesting solution was found by designers when developing the Huawei Ascend P7 BLACK case. Owner reviews testify to this. The case of this all-in-one with touch input is completely made of tempered glass "Gorilla Eye" of the 3rd generation. And this applies to both the front of the gadget and the back. Only along the perimeter it is framed by a metal strip. In order to prevent dirt and fingerprints from showing up on the glass surface, a special 7-layer coating has been developed that masks them. The left edge of the smartphone - without controls. All buttons are displayed on the right side. There are volume rockers and a power button on the device. The volume down key allows you to quickly take pictures. To do this, it is enough to press it twice in the locked state of the smartphone, and in less than 2 seconds you will see the result. In the upper part of the device, in addition to the previously mentioned 8 megapixel camera, there is also a speaker. The headphone jack is located on the top edge of the gadget. Under the 5-inch screen are three touch buttons: "Menu", "Back" and "Home". A microphone and a MicroUSB connector are placed on the bottom edge of the smartphone. The device itself is currently available in two colors. In addition to the previously mentioned black, there is also a white version. The White smartphone will be more to the liking of the weaker half of humanity, for which it was made.
autonomy
This Chinese device has a 2500 milliamp / hour battery. Its resource with a minimum load is enough for 3 days. But with more intensive use of the smartphone - for 12 hours, and then you have to put the device on charge. The battery is built into the case, and if it becomes unusable, then it will be problematic to replace it yourself. You will have to contact a specialized service center for help.
Soft
The Huawei Ascend P7 smartphone has an interesting set of software. Reviews highlight, first of all, the Emotion UI version 2.3 shell of the Chinese manufacturer's own development and a special pop-up menu. Each of these components allows you to customize the gadget's interface according to the needs of the user. Due to this, you can significantly increase productivity and ensure that the smartphone is operated with only one hand. Not every device with similar characteristics can achieve this.
Data exchange
This smart phone has a rich set of communication capabilities. Among them are:
- Support for all possible mobile networks today.
- Wi-Fi module capable of operating at speeds up to 150 Mbps.
- Bluetooth 4th generation.
- Navigation module capable of working with both GLONASS and ZHPS.
- A micro USB interface is provided for connecting to a PC. It is also used for battery charging.
- A separate connector allows you to easily connect an external speaker system to your smartphone.

What did you like
screen and design. lies well in the hand
What did not like
It is larger in all axes: almost a centimeter long, well, it is thicker.
The Power button didn't get any better; it's now in a different place, smaller and rounder; it’s good only in theory, in practice ".. here is the same mine, only smaller but different .."
The bottom also remained plastic + became glossy and foolishly rounded at the corners: this part is strongly knocked out of the design, the P6 was much more harmoniously done. And there is now a microUSB connector: it was better on top, there is aluminum, and here the plastic is scratched when thrusting.
White is probably much more practical: I have black and it is always in prints - it is glass on all sides!
I can’t understand why a “clip from AiFon” is better than a plug in the headphone port. Now there is a hole, and the paper clip is much easier to lose.
Looks for a network for a very long time, especially if 4G is not strange. If you manually switch 4/3/2G, then the connection disappears altogether and is not restored: you need to turn on the flight mode and turn it back off.
What did you like
I compare with P6. It's funny, but the rear glass "on hand" is much nicer than aluminum .. warmer or something. The shell of Emotion 3.0 is beyond praise: everything is smooth, beautiful. Android is fresher, although it's strange that it's not the 5th, a lot of energy-saving functions. I especially liked the energy-saving mode, although it is not entirely clear why buying a smartphone to turn it into a regular dialer; well, you never know, if you need to save maximum energy away from the outlet .. I liked the setting that hides the on-screen buttons - on the P6 they sometimes really interfered. Well, 4G is mostly good. If it works of course.

In Russia, there are no models (NOT CERTIFIED) supporting LTE, you will not find them anywhere, although there is a marking on the device itself, most likely it only works in China. The lens of the external camera, as I understand it, has a purple tint of UV protection, the coating was instantly scratched (namely, the coating and not the glass), I thought the dirt got in, I wanted to wipe it off with my fingernail carefully and there were still scratches on the Nokia x6 for 10 years of work, there was not a single one, now you probably have to wait when there is more then completely remove it.

the charge holds about 7-8 hours, despite the fact that I use the Internet quite a bit, the network constantly disappears (writes mobile communication is not available), 4G or LTE for a month of use once a month, showed reception, but I could not manage to use it, so how she disappeared forever. I thought that this was a matter of the operator, but I was mistaken, because a friend bought a phone of a different brand and he normally catches a 4G network with my SIM card. The surface of the phone is very prone to scratches.

What did not like
I took this phone in the expectation that this brand is considered to be the leading one in the Chinese industry of telecommunications equipment manufacturers, however ... However, the roots make themselves felt. The phone constantly loses the network. There are frequent cases when during a conversation it is interrupted in the most shameless way with the message - "No network". You have to wait about a minute until the phone deigns to find the lost network. I note that this happens in places where my other, cheaper phones from other companies work with a bang. I did not expect such a setup from the giant of the industry. There are frequent cases of WiFi freezing - this is when there is a network, but when you try to open-refresh the page in the browser, a plug occurs, the page does not load - it helps - turn on airplane mode and back, then everything starts loading normally. Such manipulations, sometimes, have to be done literally every time you need to reload, go to another page on the Internet.

It makes no sense to describe the advantages if the phone failed in the most important thing ...

New operating system. After the old one on htc desire hd, I can't get used to the new one. Well, it's more convenient just the old one. Perhaps the sound is still not loud, although I have not seen other phones except the old dhd, so I can’t talk much about it.
The Chinese company has updated the flagship of its fashion series
The division of Huawei Consumer Business Group (former Huawei Device), specializing in the production of mobile equipment, continues to increase momentum. This time, the Chinese chose not just anything but the city of Paris as the venue for the global presentation of their next fashionable flagship smartphone, and even invited several hundred journalists from all over the world to this event - everything, as they say, is of the highest caliber. No wonder, because according to the results of sales of smartphones in the past year, the company managed to climb up to third place - now only Samsung and Apple are ahead of it (with a total number of goods sold in this direction of 52 million, which is 60% more than in 2012 - according to Canalys, SA and IDC). It is clear that in this state of affairs it is no longer possible to lose face - you have to comply. Huawei held a global presentation for the first time, which was honestly written in the invitation. Well, with the initiative, as they say.
Paris, by the way, met the guests with not the friendliest weather - it was cloudy, windy and cool enough, not to mention the rain that was starting to drizzle. However, this did not in the least prevent the grandiose event from going according to the planned scenario: it was noisy, pompous, fun and tasty, but for some reason there was no Internet, or it simply wasn’t enough for everyone, which is a pity.
As for the presented smartphone, after a recent review of the updated flagship model Ascend P6s, our expectations were very positive. Unlike the previous, rather problematic (at least in terms of hardware) models P1 and P6, the updated P6s showed its best side, demonstrating many improvements in literally everything, including technically. So from the next model in the series, Huawei Ascend P7, we expected nothing less, and our expectations were fully justified. The novelty turned out to be even a little more powerful, and according to its external data, the Huawei Ascend P7 smartphone is generally one of the most interesting modern top-end mobile devices on the market.
The Huawei Ascend P line of smartphones has always embodied the developers' ideas about the concept of a fashion model. It focused more on product design than on performance or maximum performance. The most notable models of this series (Huawei Ascend P1, Huawei Ascend P6) were created with an eye to the image component, they tried to embody everything that, according to the creators, made the model beautiful and attractive - a small case thickness, for example.
The new model Ascend P7 not only has all this, but also a lot of things have been added. The device uses a more powerful SoC (increased the frequency of processor cores), used a better display, increased battery capacity, added support for LTE (including frequencies used in Russia), and in general, a good optimization of the operation of all components of the device was carried out . So the Chinese not only managed not to spoil anything in relation to their successfully updated P6s model, but also made its successor more powerful and even prettier, and from the very beginning they offer their product at a much more reasonable price than other eminent rivals.

Equipment
Smartphone Huawei Ascend P7, like the previous models of the series, comes in a neat small flat box made of hard white cardboard. The lid is a cardboard casing that stretches over the box from the side. The minimum amount of necessary information is applied on the outer surfaces, the box looks stylish and strict.
Inside the box you can find the following:
- Smartphone Huawei Ascend P7
- Power adapter (output current 1 A)
- Wired stereo headset
- Micro-USB cable
- Warranty card and instructions
In principle, it will still be possible to find an NFC tag in the kit, but it is not known for sure whether the Huawei Ascend P7 will reach the Russian market in this configuration.
Appearance and usability
The smartphone design strongly resembles its predecessors from the Huawei Ascend P series, but there are some minor differences. They consist, first of all, in the fact that this time the entire front surface is completely covered with protective glass, and this only benefited the smartphone. That is, that notorious "bare" plastic process, which so spoiled the appearance of the front panel of previous models of the series, has disappeared. Now everything looks uniform and aesthetically finished. True, the bottom plastic end remained rounded, and the flat metal rim, which runs along the entire side perimeter of the case, again did not reach the bottom end and remained open in the lower part. However, otherwise the device would have become almost an exact copy of the Apple iPhone 4.
If we talk about copying in design, then this time the Huawei fashion model has features not only of the Apple iPhone, but also of the Sony Xperia. In particular, many note the similarity of the metal hardware keys on the side with the latest Sony smartphones, especially the rounded shape of the power button. However, all this has not shocked anyone for a long time: the market is used to the fact that the Chinese have a completely different attitude to copying other people's successful finds, they are not at all embarrassed by this process, considering it to be completely normal. As a result, Huawei this time released a mixture of the Apple iPhone and the smaller Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
The device has practically not changed in thickness: it is the same thin and absolutely flat monoblock device with sharp straight edges and corners with almost no rounding, made of plastic, glass and metal. Due to the digestible size and low weight, the smartphone fits perfectly in the hand and is held securely in it. Women also liked this cute device - many people like it for its sophisticated forms, lightness and small dimensions. By the way, the linear dimensions of the case have only slightly increased compared to the previous P6s model, even despite a noticeable increase in the screen diagonal from 4.7 to 5 inches.
The smartphone turned out to be not very easily soiled, although both main surfaces are covered with glass. A good oleophobic coating protects it from fingerprints, and the side wide bezel is completely made of matte metal, on which fingerprints do not remain.
It is the back surface that looks the most attractive here: it is completely covered with the same high-quality Gorilla Glass 3 protective glass as the front, plus under it you can still see the complex pattern of the substrate playing in the light, made using laser engraving - very similar to that of the flagship models of the LG series G.
In general, the back side of the Huawei Ascend P7, as noted above, is most reminiscent of the Sony Xperia Z Ultra. You can compare these two models visually - the similarity is obvious.
The protective glass also completely covers the front panel, but there are no hardware touch buttons under it: the Huawei Ascend P7 has software control buttons on the screen, so the lower part under the screen is not occupied by anything but the company's silver logo.
In the upper part above the screen, there are traditionally located sensors, a front camera eye, as well as an LED indicator that signals the charging status and various incoming events. The round dot of the indicator is embedded exactly in the middle directly above the chrome-plated speaker grille.
The back surface is absolutely flat, it has no protrusions - neither the camera module nor the speaker grille protrude, so the sound is significantly muffled if the smartphone is placed with the screen up. The camera window is framed by a metal ring, below you can see the eye of a single-section LED flash, which can turn into a brightly shining flashlight with the help of pre-installed software.
A Micro SIM card and a microSD memory card are inserted into the side slots - each enters there on their metal sleds. The slots are located next to each other, the second slot is for a microSD memory card, but there will probably be another modification on the market, as before, where the second slot will be given to another SIM card. The sled is normally removed by pressing the hidden buttons with the key, the key itself is contained in the complete set of accessories: it can be found attached to one of the boxes. By the way, this is one of the most noticeable changes in the updated model: the metal cork, which used to serve as a key and was fixed in the headphone jack, has disappeared. Now this cork is gone at all, and the key is an ordinary metal plate with a sharp nose - “like everyone else”.
There are two mechanical hardware keys on the case, and both are located on the same side face, into which both card slots are embedded. Thus, one of the faces is oversaturated with various elements, and the second is completely empty.
The buttons are made of metal, they are small, they do not protrude too much from the body, but nevertheless they are quite good to grope blindly. The power button, as mentioned above, has turned into a round one, and the volume control is located right above it - everything is exactly like in modern Sony smartphones.
The universal Micro-USB connector is now embedded in the bottom end, and not in the top. The bottom end here, as before, is devoid of protection in the form of a metal rim, it is smoothly rounded and has no other elements except for the Micro-USB connector and a conversational microphone embedded next to it. The Micro-USB port supports a variety of external peripherals, so you can read information directly from a connected flash drive using an OTG adapter.
A standard headphone output (3.5 mm) is located on the top end, next to it you can see a hole for an additional microphone. The connectors are not covered by any plugs, as the smartphone is not protected from water and dust.
As for the color variety of Huawei Ascend P7 models, there will traditionally be three of them: black and white, as well as pink. The front panel under the glass of each model is painted in the general tone of the entire body. Perhaps the white version looks the most preferable - it is the most non-staining and generally the prettiest, but black is more strict and solid.
Screen
The Huawei Ascend P7 smartphone is equipped with an IPS touch matrix with In-Cell technology. The screen dimensions are 62 × 110 mm, the diagonal is 5 inches, the resolution is 1920 × 1080 pixels. Such a parameter as the density of pixels per inch is 440 ppi here - this is a very high indicator today.
The thickness of the side frames from the edge of the screen to the edge of the body is very small, it is less than 3 mm - the frames are very thin. The brightness of the display can be adjusted manually, or you can use automatic adjustment. Multi-touch technology here allows you to handle up to 10 simultaneous touches. The smartphone also has a proximity sensor that blocks the screen when you bring the smartphone to your ear. The smartphone display is endowed with the ability to respond to touch when wearing gloves. The sensitivity of the screen becomes excessively high, so under normal operating conditions it is better to disable this function in the settings menu.
A detailed examination using measuring instruments was carried out by the editor of the "Monitors" and "Projectors and TV" sections Alexey Kudryavtsev. Here is his expert opinion on the screen of the test sample.
The front surface of the screen is made in the form of a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface, resistant to scratches. Judging by the reflection of objects, the anti-glare properties of the screen are no worse than those of the Google Nexus 7 (2013) screen (hereinafter simply Nexus 7). For clarity, here is a photo in which a white surface is reflected in the off screens (on the left is Nexus 7, on the right is Huawei Ascend P7, then they can be distinguished by size):
The screen of Huawei Ascend P7 is even a little darker (brightness in photos is 75 versus 87 for Nexus 7). The ghosting of reflected objects in the P7 screen is very weak, which indicates that there is no air gap between the screen layers (more specifically, between the outer glass and the surface of the LCD matrix) (OGS type screen - One Glass Solution). Due to the smaller number of borders (glass-air type) with very different refractive indices, such screens look better in conditions of strong external illumination, but their repair in case of cracked external glass is much more expensive, since the entire screen has to be changed. There is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen (very effective, slightly better than the Nexus 7), so fingerprints are removed much more easily, and appear at a slower rate than in the case of ordinary glass.
With manual brightness control and with a white field displayed in full screen, the maximum brightness value was about 525 cd/m², the minimum was 16 cd/m². The maximum brightness is very high, which means that, given the excellent anti-reflective properties, readability even on a sunny day outdoors should be at a good level. In complete darkness, the brightness can be reduced to a comfortable value. In the presence of automatic brightness control by light sensor (located to the right of the front speaker grille). In automatic mode, when the ambient light conditions change, the screen brightness both increases and decreases. This function depends on the position of the brightness slider. If it is 100%, then in complete darkness the auto-brightness function reduces the brightness to 155 cd / m² (a little too much), in an office lit by artificial light (about 400 lux) it sets it to 365 cd / m² (it could have been less), in a very bright environment (corresponds to lighting on a clear day outdoors, but without direct sunlight - 20,000 lux or a little more) the brightness increases to 525 cd / m² (to the maximum - it is necessary); if the adjustment is at 50%, then the values are as follows: 16, 155 and 525 cd / m² (acceptable values, although the screen darkens unnecessarily in the dark), the regulator at 0% - 16, 38 and 300 cd / m² (the values \u200b\u200bare underestimated, which is logical) . As a result, the auto-brightness function works quite adequately. At any brightness level, there is virtually no backlight modulation, so there is no screen flicker.
This smartphone uses an IPS type matrix. Micrographs show a typical IPS subpixel structure:
For comparison, you can see the gallery of microphotographs of screens used in mobile technology.
The screen has good viewing angles without significant color shift even at large deviations of the gaze from the perpendicular to the screen and without inverting shades. For comparison, here are photographs in which the same images are displayed on the screens of Huawei Ascend P7 and Nexus 7, while the brightness of the screens was initially set to about 200 cd / m², and the color balance on the camera was forcibly switched to 6500 K. A white field is perpendicular to the screens:
Note the good uniformity of brightness and color tone of the white field. And a test picture:
Color reproduction is good and colors are saturated on both screens, but the color balance is slightly different. Now at an angle of about 45 degrees to the plane and to the side of the screen:
It can be seen that the colors have not changed much on both screens, but on the Huawei Ascend P7, the contrast has decreased to a greater extent due to strong black highlights. And the white box:
The brightness at an angle of the screens has decreased (at least 5 times, based on the difference in shutter speed), but the Huawei Ascend P7 screen is getting lighter (brightness in photos is 240 versus 230 for Nexus 7). The black field, when deviated diagonally, is highlighted very strongly and acquires a yellowish, purple or red-violet hue. The photos below demonstrate this (the brightness of the white areas in the direction perpendicular to the plane of the screens is the same!):
And from another angle:
With a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the black field is average, since there are a couple of areas with increased black brightness along the edge of the screen:
Contrast (approximately in the center of the screen) is not very high - about 640:1. The response time for the black-white-black transition is 21 ms (13 ms on + 8 ms off). The transition between 25% and 75% grayscale (according to the numerical value of the color) and back takes a total of 32 ms. The gamma curve constructed from 32 points with an equal interval according to the numerical value of the shade of gray did not reveal a blockage either in the highlights or in the shadows. The exponent of the approximating power function is 2.25, which is close to the standard value of 2.2. In this case, the real gamma curve practically does not deviate from the power dependence:
The color gamut is sRGB:
The spectra show that the matrix filters moderately mix the components to each other:
As a result, visually the colors have a natural saturation. The balance of shades on the gray scale is good, since the color temperature is not much higher than the standard 6500 K, and the deviation from the blackbody spectrum (ΔE) is less than 3, which is considered an excellent indicator even for a professional device. At the same time, the color temperature and ΔE change little from shade to shade - this has a positive effect on the visual assessment of color balance. (The darkest areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance does not matter much there, and the measurement error of color characteristics at low brightness is large.)
This device has the ability to adjust the color balance by adjusting the hue warmer-colder. Curves in the charts above Without corr. correspond to the results without any color balance correction, and the curves Corr.- data obtained after shifting the correction slider to the "warm" side before setting the target 6500 K on the white field. It can be seen that the change in balance corresponds to the expected result, since the color temperature has become closer to the standard in most of the gray scale, but ΔE, unfortunately, has increased slightly.
To summarize: the screen has a high maximum brightness and has good anti-glare properties, so the device can be used outdoors without any problems even on a sunny summer day. In complete darkness, the brightness can be lowered to a comfortable level. It is permissible to use the mode with automatic brightness adjustment, which works more or less adequately. Also, the advantages of the screen include a very effective oleophobic coating, the absence of flicker and air gap in the layers of the screen, sRGB color gamut and good color balance. The disadvantages are the low stability of black to the deviation of the gaze from the perpendicular to the plane of the screen. Nevertheless, taking into account the importance of the characteristics for this particular class of devices, the screen quality can be considered high.
Sound
In terms of sound, the Huawei Ascend P7 smartphone is quite good. Like its predecessor, the device produces clear sound in both speakers, even throughout the entire volume range, even more bassy - rich in low frequencies, and very loud for such a thin case. The speech of the interlocutor is recognized confidently, the auditory speaker clearly conveys all the intonations and timbre of the voice. There are practically no sound settings in the music player, there is only the ability to turn DTS sound enhancement technology on or off.
Camera
Huawei Ascend P7 is equipped with completely different, different from the previous model, two digital camera modules with an unusual resolution: the front camera here has a record high resolution of as much as 8 megapixels (the maximum aperture of the lens is F2.4), respectively, and self-portraits come out here of very decent quality . The front camera takes pictures at a maximum resolution of 1836x3264, and videos at 1080p.
The main, rear camera has a fourth-generation Sony BSI CMOS image sensor with a resolution of 13 MP and a lens with a maximum aperture of F2.0. The camera is equipped with autofocus and a single-section LED flash. Photos are taken at a maximum size of 4160×3120 or 4160×2336 for wide aspect ratio (set by default).
It is worth noting that you can take a quick picture on the Huawei Ascend P7 camera even from the locked state: double-clicking the volume down button in lock mode will instantly activate the camera and shoot. The developers called their function Ultra Snapshot: the fastest possible readiness of the camera for shooting, in just 1.2 seconds. As for the shooting modes, the main camera initially works in a smart auto settings mode, and the front embellishes reality using the Decoration mode. So if you don't want your face to look like a porcelain figurine in a self-portrait, you should switch to normal mode.
The main camera can shoot video with a maximum resolution of 1920 × 1080. You can also take still pictures while recording video. Examples of test videos taken under various weather and light conditions are presented below.
- Clip #1 (96 MB, 1920×1080, video: MPEG4 AVC, audio: AAC)
- Clip #2 (99 MB, 1920×1080, video: MPEG4 AVC, audio: AAC)
Sample photos with our comments are presented below.
In general, the sharpness is not bad, but it drops a little towards the edges of the frame. |
|
Significant areas of blur are visible on the sides. |
|
With the removal of small objects, they work out worse, the camera begins to “soap” in fragments. |
|
The numbers of not the closest cars are clearly distinguishable. |
|
Noises are noticeable on dark clouds, although, in general, the sky is worked out well and interestingly. |
|
Such plans can hardly be called the strong point of the camera. Although the fog is also worth considering. |
|
The camera again worked out the sky beautifully - however, to the detriment of the buildings. |
|
With the removal of the grass merges, but not so quickly. |
|
Still, the sharpness unpleasantly walks around the frame. |
|
In poor lighting, objects are blurred due to sufficiently long (1/20 s) shutter speeds. At the same time, the camera keeps the light sensitivity at fairly low values (ISO 400), and there is no significant noise. |
|
On thin lines, you can see unpleasant software processing. |
|
Panorama stitching is not so good for the camera. |
The camera is far from flagship. First of all, problems with optics are visible, due to which sharpness at the edges of the image suffers. The camera also cannot boast of good sharpness in the field of the frame and in terms of plans: in the background, the sharpness drops noticeably. The frequent “soapiness” of the image speaks rather of not very good software processing than of poor optics, but there is also its contribution. It can only be noted that a good noise reduction, since the noise is almost invisible. The camera is not very good at choosing the exposure, but thanks to this, it is good at taking pictures of the sky.
The panorama stitching algorithm is quite old. Joints with uneven exposure are visible. Dynamic objects suffer, although some cameras already know how to save them. And the rest of the camera program somehow remained at the level of last year's flagships. A little rough, but delicate sharpening, peeping in places. Not always accurate, although effective noise reduction. Not the best exposure choice. You can shoot, of course, and not bad. But still there are better cameras.
In general, for a regular smartphone camera, the sharpness is very good, but there are too many unpleasant minuses for a flagship camera. However, the camera is quite suitable for artistic or documentary shooting.
Telephone part and communications
The smartphone works as standard in modern 2G GSM and 3G WCDMA networks, and there is also support for the fourth generation networks (LTE) used in Russia. With the SIM card of the domestic operator Megafon, the smartphone in practice confidently finds and works with the LTE network. Of the additional network features, there is support for NFC technology - an NFC tag was even included in the kit for this reason. The mode of connecting external devices to the USB port (USB Host, OTG) is supported here, so that flash drives connected via an OTG adapter can serve and be used as additional storage. The navigation module supports both GPS and domestic Glonass and works very clearly and quickly, there are no problems with this.
Spontaneous reboots / shutdowns were not observed during testing, the speed of the interface and applications does not cause complaints.
The screen of the smartphone is large, so the drawing of letters and numbers on virtual keyboards is quite comfortable to control. The layout and layout of the keys are standard: switching languages here is done by pressing a special button with the image of a globe, there is no dedicated top row with numbers - you need to switch the layout every time. The phone application supports Smart Dial, that is, while dialing a phone number, a search is also carried out immediately by the first letters in contacts. There is support for typing by continuous writing Swype.
Organizationally, the most noticeable distinguishing feature of the pre-installed proprietary graphical interface is that this shell does not have an application menu. That is, here all the icons of installed programs are automatically laid out directly on desktops, and mixed with widgets. Naturally, not only is the creation of folders / groups supported, but most of the already pre-installed applications are carefully arranged into thematic folders by the developers themselves. Initially, several widgets are already preinstalled on the main desktop, the most useful of them is the weather widget.
The settings menu is divided into two sections, navigation between which is carried out using the selection bar at the top of the screen. In the "General" section, the developers have collected all the functions that, in their opinion, are the most requested and frequently used, and in the other ("All") - a complete standard set of all settings in the form that was intended by the developers of Google Android.
Additional functionality has appeared in the form of a soft control button that calls the context menu, made in the form of a semicircle, stuck to any of the edges of the screen. From this menu, you can quickly jump to standard phone applications such as the calendar or calculator, as well as enable administrator mode. In this mode, you can not only create rules for choosing passwords, track attempts to unlock the screen, and the like, but even instantly delete all personal data without warning by resetting the settings - such is the “panic button”.
Performance
Huawei Ascend P7 is based on a new modification of the HiSilicon Kirin 910T single-chip system. This is the same Kirin 910 (also referred to as V9R1 and Hi6620), only slightly overclocked: here the frequency of processor cores is increased from 1.6 to 1.8 GHz. The new SoC was introduced last year, but it took its place in Huawei devices only this year.
There is little information about the new platform at the moment. It is known that the functions of the processor in it are performed by four ARM Cortex-A9 cores (ARMv7 architecture) with a maximum frequency of 1.8 GHz. The quad-core processor Mali-450, the successor to the popular Mali-400, is responsible for the graphics.
The device has 2 GB of RAM. Own memory for the needs of the user is initially available about 11.7 GB, microSD memory cards up to 32 GB are supported. You can connect external flash drives, keyboards and mice to your smartphone using a special adapter in OTG mode.
According to the test results, the hardware platform of the Huawei Ascend P7 smartphone showed average results (25K in AnTuTu) - logically, but not by much ahead of the Huawei Ascend P6s model with slightly slower processor cores (22K in AnTuTu).
It would be useful to recall the current balance of power and evaluate what place the new platform has taken on this list. Now top solutions based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800/801 give out the maximum 35K points in the AnTuTu test; the latest eight-core MediaTek MT6592 platform with a frequency of 2.0 GHz for Cortex-A7 cores shows a slightly worse result (31K for TCL Idol X +), the same eight Cortex-A7 MT6592 cores with a frequency of 1.7 GHz already show 26K, and the previous model MediaTek's quad-core MT6589T scores only 15K in these tests. It makes no sense to go down this “ladder”, since devices with results below 15K are frankly backward at the moment, and it’s simply not interesting to consider them seriously in comparisons.
Based on the results of our testing, the HiSilicon Kirin 910/910T platform took the place of a solid "middle" in this list, and most importantly, compared to the previous K3V2, the new version of the SoC demonstrates much better stability. Models on K3V2 were subject to more heat, more and unpredictable power consumption and were characterized by a much worse level of performance. So, in general, the transition of new Huawei devices to the HiSilicon Kirin 910/910T platform looks like a good step towards an overall improvement in the situation, although, of course, the performance level of even the flagship Huawei Ascend P7 is far from the results of real flagships, which are based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800/801 platform .
For convenience, we have summarized all the results obtained by us when testing a smartphone in the latest versions of popular benchmarks in tables. Several other devices from different segments are usually added to the table, also tested on similar latest versions of benchmarks (this is done only for a visual assessment of the received dry numbers). Unfortunately, within the framework of one comparison, it is impossible to present the results from different versions of benchmarks, so many worthy and relevant models remain “behind the scenes” due to the fact that they once passed the “obstacle course” on previous versions of test programs.
Testing in MobileXPRT, as well as in the latest versions of AnTuTu 4.x and GeekBench 3:
It is worth noting that we always double-check the results of the “normal” AnTuTu test with the results shown in the version of the AnTuTu X benchmark protected from “cheating” by smartphone manufacturers (it is given in the articles to the right of the main screenshot). In this case, we can say that the developers of the smartphone / SoC did not “optimize” the system specifically for popular tests, so the results were similar.

Browser cross-platform tests:
As for benchmarks for evaluating the speed of the javascript engine, you should always make allowances for the fact that the results in them depend significantly on the browser in which they are launched, so that the comparison can only be truly correct on the same OS and browsers, and this possibility is available when testing not always. In the case of Android OS, we always try to use Google Chrome.
Video playback
To test the "omnivorous" when playing video (including support for various codecs, containers and special features, such as subtitles), we used the most common formats, which make up the bulk of the content available on the Web. Note that for mobile devices it is important to have support for hardware video decoding at the chip level, since it is most often impossible to process modern versions using processor cores alone. Also, you should not expect everything from a mobile device to decode everything, since the leadership in flexibility belongs to the PC, and no one is going to challenge it. All results are summarized in a single table.
Since the Micro-USB connector here supports the USB host (OTG) mode, a device with a large high-quality screen and powerful hardware can be comfortably used as a multimedia combine. It is enough to connect any flash drive through an adapter, and you can play music, movies, view photos directly from it. True, the regular smartphone player is not initially equipped with all the necessary hardware decoders for playback, sometimes you have to resort to third-party solutions.

Additionally, the MHL interface was tested. To test it, we used the LG IPS237L monitor, which supports direct MHL connection using a passive micro-USB to HDMI adapter cable. At the same time, MHL output was carried out at a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels at a frequency of 30 fps. Additionally, we tested with an MHL adapter, which provided output at a lower resolution (720p) but at 60 fps. When the smartphone is in portrait orientation, the image on the monitor screen is also displayed in portrait orientation, while the image on the monitor is slightly smaller than the screen border in height (narrow black bars are displayed at the top and bottom), and to maintain the correct proportions, black fields are displayed on the sides wider. When the smartphone is in landscape orientation, the display of the image on the monitor screen, if possible, is carried out in landscape orientation (the exception is the start screen, which is forced to be displayed in portrait orientation), while the image on the monitor exactly matches the image on the smartphone screen, but still the image borders do not reach a little to the edge of the display area on the monitor.
Such scaling is absolutely inappropriate and significantly reduces the clarity of the image. The sound is output via MHL (in this case, the sounds were heard through the headphones connected to the monitor, since there are no speakers in the monitor itself) and has a good quality. At the same time, multimedia sounds are not output through the loudspeaker of the smartphone itself, and the volume is controlled by the buttons on the smartphone case. The smartphone connected via MHL is charging (at least, this is indicated by the charge indicator).
Further, using a set of test files with an arrow and a rectangle moving one division per frame (see “Methodology for testing video playback and display devices. Version 1 (for mobile devices)”), we checked how the video is displayed on the screen of the device under test. Screenshots with a shutter speed of 1 s helped determine the nature of the output of frames of video files with various parameters: the resolution varied from 1280 by 720 (720p) and 1920 by 1080 (1080p) pixels and frame rates of 24, 25, 30, 50 and 60 fps. In tests, we used the MX Player video player in Hardware mode. The results of this (block titled "Smartphone Screen") and the following test are summarized in a table: Red marks indicate possible problems with the playback of the respective files.
The intervals between frames (or groups of frames) in most cases alternate a little unevenly and the smartphone cannot cope with 1080p files at 50 and 60 fps. However, in general, if we limit ourselves to 24 fps typical for movies and TV shows, then there are no special complaints about video playback. When playing video files with a resolution of 1080p (1920 by 1080 pixels), the image of the video file itself is displayed one-on-one, exactly along the border of the screen, in the original Full HD resolution. The brightness range displayed on the screen corresponds to the standard range of 16-235 - in the shadows, only a couple of shades are indistinguishable in brightness from black, but in the highlights all gradations of shades are displayed.
With a monitor connected via MHL, when playing video in hardware accelerated mode, only the picture of the video file is displayed on the monitor, and the picture itself, as well as information elements and virtual controls are displayed on the smartphone screen (but they are also hidden after a couple of seconds):
When playing video files with a resolution of 1080p (1920 by 1080 pixels) on the monitor screen, the image of the video file itself is displayed exactly on the border of the screen while maintaining true proportions, but the actual resolution is slightly reduced due to strange interpolation with pixel density variation. In this case, the same interpolation appears on the screen of the smartphone itself. The brightness range displayed on the monitor is not equal to the standard range of 16-235, - all the necessary gradations of shades are displayed in the shadows, but all the shades “whiter than white” are distinguishable in the highlights, that is, the white color of typical video files will be displayed on the screen of the connected device as light-light grey, and the picture will be less contrast. The results of the monitor output tests are shown in the table above in the "MHL (monitor output)" section. For 50 and 60 fps files, we used an external adapter that provided 60 fps output. According to the frame interleaving criterion, output via MHL does not fundamentally differ from output to the screen of the smartphone itself.
It turns out that connecting to external monitors, TVs and projectors using MHL can, in principle, be used for games, watching movies, displaying web pages and other activities that benefit from a multiple increase in screen size. But a normal image has reduced clarity and does not occupy the entire available screen area, and in the case of video, it is better to limit it to 24-30 frames / s, which, as noted, is enough for movies and TV shows. At the same time, these oddities with interpolation are unlikely to significantly reduce the quality of Full HD video output in the case of real, not test images.
Battery Life
The capacity of the lithium-ion battery installed in the Huawei Ascend P7 has increased compared to the Huawei Ascend P6s and is now 2500 mAh. In principle, Huawei Ascend P6s also showed very good results in battery life, but here it is worth considering that the screen of the hero of today's review has increased significantly both in area and in terms of resolution. So the entire increase in battery capacity was “eaten up” by a more energy-intensive display, and as a result, Huawei Ascend P7 showed in tests almost the same results as the previous model.
The creators themselves promise that the smartphone can work up to 14 hours of talk time on the WCDMA network, and the battery life in standby mode reaches 400 hours.
In addition, the built-in power saving management feature allows you to conserve battery power by turning off unused applications. With a power saving mode, the Ascend P7 reconfigures the system when the battery drops below 10%. When the function is enabled, the screen dims, only the main applications of the phone, such as voice call and phone book, remain working. This will allow you to work with the remaining charge for up to 24 hours in standby mode.
Continuous reading in the FBReader program (with a standard, light theme) at the minimum comfortable brightness level (brightness was set to 100 cd / m²) lasted only about 14 hours until the battery was completely discharged, and with continuous viewing of YouTube videos in high quality (HQ) with the same level of brightness through the home Wi-Fi network, the device lasted 8 hours - quite decent performance. In the 3D gaming mode, the smartphone worked for more than 3 and a half hours. The battery of the Huawei Ascend P7 takes a long time to charge – the full charge time is about 3.5 hours or a little less.
Outcome
The recommended retail price of Huawei Ascend P7 in the world will be 449 euros. The model will be on sale starting in May 2014 in China, the UK, Germany and 28 other countries, and later other markets will join them. In Russia, the price of the Ascend P7 will be even lower and will be about 19 thousand rubles, which, in principle, is quite good, given the rich set of features that the new Huawei flagship can offer. In principle, if you do not get hung up on the performance results in benchmarks, then the new Chinese device turns out to be no worse than the most modern top-end solutions from famous manufacturers, which are sometimes offered at a much higher price. In general, after getting acquainted with the device, the most pleasant impression was formed about it. High-quality materials, solid and reliable assembly, attractive and stylish appearance, a good, though not the best screen, decent performance and cost-effectiveness of the new hardware platform, as well as some additional features, such as the ability to work with gloves on the screen, support for LTE (including including frequencies used in Russia) and even the ability to connect external devices in OTG mode - all this characterizes the Huawei Ascend P7 as a top-level smartphone. In addition, the device uses a new, rather advanced platform, which not only behaves more stably, but also shows miracles of efficiency in terms of power consumption. And if we also take into account the positioning of the model as a trendy stylish device, then such a price seems to be more than justified. Of course, in terms of platform power and overall performance, many modern flagships can compete with the hero of today's review, but in terms of the elegance of forms, Huawei Ascend P7 can give most of them a head start. Here, perhaps, only Alcatel (TCL) Idol X + is able to compete with him - the devices are similar in many respects, but Huawei has a much more sonorous name, which is an unconditional trump card of the smartphone. Huawei's marketing power is enough to properly promote its new model in the global market, and apparently, they are going to go further than usual in this, so sales of new items certainly should not be a failure.
