Mucus in the throat treatment with folk remedies: rinsing, inhalation and compresses

Colds are much more common than any other. And a person, at least once a year, but suffers a cold. Sometimes it can manifest itself only with a runny nose, but in most cases, mucus begins to accumulate in the throat, forming an unpleasant lump.

The human nasopharynx is covered with a special mucous layer, on which a small amount of it is located. In the event that bacteria or microbes enter the body, its amount increases. In this way, the body is protected from the spread and penetration of bacteria into cells.

The main reasons for the appearance of mucus in the throat include:

  • , as well as influenza and SARS, during which the patient feels unwell.
  • Inflammatory process in the nasal cavity, due to which the mucus gradually descends into the throat, giving the person even more discomfort. Sometimes mucus starts even before visible snot appears. In this case, a person will simply feel an unpleasant lump that cannot be swallowed or rinsed.
  • Long-term and frequent use of vasoconstrictor drugs. As a result, the mucous membrane dries up and gradually swells. And during swelling, mucus flows down the nasopharynx.
  • Fungal infections that provoke increased secretion of mucus, and also prevent its removal through the nose.
  • Allergy. Almost always, an allergy is accompanied by swelling in the nasopharynx. And therefore, often a person can cough, and the cough will be wet.
  • Improper nutrition, namely the abuse of spicy foods.
  • Smoking and drinking in large quantities, which burns the mucosa, causing more mucus to be produced to protect the cells.
  • Laryngopharyngeal reflux, during which the contents of the stomach are thrown back into the throat.

Depending on what caused the appearance of mucus in the throat, the treatment will depend.

Treatment with folk remedies

Folk methods of treating the disease include: rinsing, inhalation, compresses and proper nutrition.

Having resorted to these methods of treatment, from the unpleasant sensation of a lump in the throat.

Gargling helps with the formation of mucus in the throat. It covers the entire mucosa of the pharynx, thereby affecting not only the focus of inflammation, but also on nearby tissues, which eliminates the possibility of spreading the infection further.

There are several basic recipes for solutions with which you can recover:

  1. Soda, salt and iodine. This is the most well-known and most affordable way to treat a sore throat. It is necessary to take a teaspoon of soda, a teaspoon of salt (you can use regular or sea salt), pour a glass of warm water and mix well. After the solution is ready, you need to add a few drops of iodine. The main thing is not to overdo it with iodine, since with its excess the solution becomes very unpleasant in taste and a person is unlikely to be able to put up with it and continue rinsing. You need to rinse at least three times a day, but it is best to do this every two or three hours on the first day of mucus for the best effect.
  2. Chamomile. Dried chamomile can be purchased at any pharmacy. It can be sold both in sachets and just in a bag. There is not much difference in what form it will be acquired. You need to take a teaspoon of chamomile and pour it with a glass of boiling water. After the broth is brewed, let it cool and then gargle. You need to do this every three hours.
  3. Calendula. Most people do not use calendula for gargling. But she does a great job of solving the problem. You need to take a teaspoon of flowers, pour a glass of boiling water, wait half an hour, strain, let cool and rinse.

It is believed that if you gargle often, you can quickly get rid of the pain, as well as speed up the healing process.

Inhalations

An excellent way to get rid of mucus in the throat will be inhalation. You can do them using improvised means, such as a teapot, a saucepan, or you can purchase a special inhaler. Of course, the inhaler is much more convenient, but not everyone has the opportunity to buy it.

There are several basic recipes for how and with what to do inhalation:

  1. Mineral water. Many question inhalation with mineral water. But for this you need to buy not an ordinary mineral water, but, for example, Essentuki 17, which contain a lot of sodium and salt. Thanks to the main components, steam is able to act on mucus and improve its discharge. You need to take some mineral water (after releasing gases), pour it into an inhaler and breathe for about 10 or 15 minutes.
  2. Potato. For this, peeled potatoes are taken and boiled in a saucepan. After the potatoes are cooked, mash them and add a little soda. Then the pan with the contents is placed on the table, a person sits over it, covers himself with a towel and breathes. This should be done for about 10 or 15 minutes, depending on how much patience and endurance is enough.

Sometimes people breathe over a decoction of chamomile, calendula, etc., but, in fact, the effect will be the same as from inhalation with potatoes. The main thing is that if warm inhalation is carried out, do not burn yourself, as the steam will be hot for the first minutes.

Compresses are very good for thinning mucus, as well as for its better discharge. In addition, doing them when your throat hurts is not only pleasant, but also useful.

There are several basic ways to do this procedure:

  1. You need to take cottage cheese, squeeze it well, wrap it in gauze or a thin cloth, and wrap your neck. Then polyethylene is applied on top so that the curd does not leak, and a warm scarf is wrapped on top of the polyethylene. If there is downy, then it will be much better, however, down will get everywhere. This procedure must be done at night.
  2. Buy a well-known "asterisk", smear her neck and wrap it with a warm scarf. The same procedure must be done at night.
  3. Potato. You need to take a couple of potatoes, boil them and mash them. Then wrap in a cloth and apply to the throat. Keep until the potatoes have cooled down.

Compresses improve the condition very well, and thanks to warm steam, the entire nasopharynx is affected.

Proper nutrition

Sometimes mucus appears due to malnutrition, as well as eating allergenic foods, to which the body reacts in this way. If the appearance of mucus was caused precisely by products, then you need to exclude them.

But even if the appearance of mucus is caused by a cold, bronchitis, laryngitis, etc., you need to change your diet a little, that is, exclude those foods that contribute to its formation.

Necessary:

  • Eliminate fatty foods, as well as very spicy.
  • Avoid coffee time.
  • Increase fluid intake to 2 liters per day. It is advisable to drink plain boiled water, not juices, soda, etc. You can replace water with decoctions of rose hips, raspberries, chamomile.
  • Eat foods high in vitamin E and vitamin C
  • Exclude alcohol.

Sometimes, to reduce the accumulation of mucus in the throat, you need.

Often, snot flows down the throat, and does not flow out. In this case, it will be possible to get by with vasoconstrictor drops and either local antibiotics or herbal drops.

Getting rid of mucus in the throat is easy. Sometimes you don't even have to resort to medication. But still, before applying this or that method, it is better to consult a specialist, as there are a number of contraindications.
