How to do a perm at home

Perm is the least time-consuming way to style your hair. With its help, the hair acquires additional volume, splendor and flirty curls. A well-made perm stays on the hair for up to six months or until you cut off the regrown ends of the hair. Previously, you had to go to the hairdresser for a perm. Today, curling can be done at home. With formulations specially formulated for home use, it's as easy as curling your hair every day.

Scheme, technology, step-by-step instructions for perm at home

Perming, as the name implies, is a process in which chemicals are applied to the hair. As a result, the structure of the hair changes. Improper use of drugs can throw the process out of control and lead to the most unexpected results. To prevent this from happening, you must carefully read the instructions and strictly follow them.

In order for a curl at home to have an excellent result, you must carefully prepare everything you need. You will need:

  • special chemical composition
  • fixer
  • a solution of 9% vinegar or citric acid for rinsing
  • shampoo
  • preparations that restore hair structure
  • conditioner balm
  • vegetable, preferably castor, oil

Also, tools:

  • bobbins or curlers with a diameter of 3-20 mm in the amount of 50-80 pieces
  • comb with a long narrow handle (not metal)
  • two small sponges for applying chemicals. composition and fixer
  • clips for fixing strands
  • gloves (rubber, latex, polyethylene)
  • two bowls with a capacity of 50-100 ml for diluting preparations
  • graduated measuring cup 5 ml
  • polyethylene cape
  • two towels
  • a bundle of cotton wool or cotton napkin

Having prepared everything you need, you can start curling.

  • Wash your hair with shampoo, avoiding massaging the skin. Dry your hair with a towel and comb. It is better to curl slightly damp hair. They are easier to work with, they absorb the curling agent better.
  • Choose bobbins or curlers, guided by the principle: the shorter the hair, the smaller the diameter of the bobbins. Usually, when curling, bobbins of three different diameters are used: thin - for the occipital region, medium ones are used at the temples, thick - the forehead and parietal region. For short hair, the bobbin diameter should not exceed 7 mm.

  • Cover your shoulders with a cape, put a towel over it so that the curling agent does not get on your clothes. Wear gloves. Divide your hair into zones and start twisting. Before winding, each strand must be moistened 2/3 of the length with a chemical composition. This is done with a sponge.
  • The thickness of the strand in a twisted form should not exceed 0.5 cm. If the hair is long or thick, it is better to take thinner strands. Otherwise, the composition will impregnate them unevenly along the entire length. It is necessary to ensure that all strands are the same in length and width.
  • Having wound a part of the hair (occipital, temporal, top), they must once again be thoroughly moistened with the composition.

“Divide your hair into zones. Start winding from the back of the head, then the temporal zones, lastly the top of the head.

  • When you move on to winding the temporal region and hair in the forehead, take protective measures: lubricate the skin along the hairline with petroleum jelly, and also apply plaits from a cotton napkin or cotton wool so that the composition does not fall on the face and neck.
  • After winding all the hair and treating it with a solution, the hair must be wrapped with a film and insulated with a terry towel. Keep the composition on the hair for as long as indicated in the instructions.

  • After the expiration of the period, the hair must be washed without removing the bobbin. Do not use shampoo. Pat dry with a towel and apply fixer. After 5-8 min. it is necessary to unwind the bobbins, carefully once again treat the curls with a fixer, hold for another 5-8 minutes, after which the fixer should be washed off with water without detergents.
  • Finally, the fixer must be neutralized with an acidic medium. For this, a solution is prepared: 2 tbsp. spoons of 9% vinegar or 2 g of citric acid per 1 liter of water.
  • The final touch is the application of a restorative agent or castor oil to the hair.

A well-made perm lasts up to 6 months on the hair. And even after this period, the hair is different from those that grow back. They are more fluffy, keep styling longer. On the growing roots, you can make a basal perm of hair. The principle of its implementation is the same, with the difference that only the regrown part of the curl is wound onto the bobbins, and the previously curled end of the strand is released.

Features of performing a perm to obtain large curls

The size of the curl depends on the diameter of the bobbins (curlers) on which the hair is wound. For curling large curls, you need to take thick plastic curlers or boomerangs. Further, the procedure is no different from that described above.

It is worth considering that it is impossible to make large curls on thin hair. They don't keep their shape. The maximum effect is a light wave. If you have thin curls, it is better to take curlers of medium diameter. The more curlers you use for curling, the more volume you can achieve.

Types of curls depending on the length of the hair: short, medium, long

The modern beauty industry amazes with a variety of perm options:

Biowave- a composition in which, according to the manufacturers, there are no ammonia, thioglycolic acid, hydrogen peroxide. Due to this, the client does not experience discomfort during the procedure (unpleasant smell, itching and redness of the scalp). The hair is not damaged, it retains a healthy appearance, during regrowth, the transition between the curled and regrown part of the hair is invisible. The price of such a perm is more.

Carving or light chemicals- this is not even chemistry, but long-term styling. The method of performing carving is no different from the usual curl. Difference in composition. This styling lasts 4-6 weeks. From week to week, the hair gradually unwinds and takes on its original appearance, which does not happen during a conventional perm. This type of perm is suitable for short and medium hair, which can achieve a structured curl and a longer lasting effect. On long hair, the perm disappears quickly.

The advantages of carving were appreciated by the stars of show business.

Carving and biowave are considered safer, not damaging the hair.

Spiral perm- the perfect way to curl long hair. Hair is wound on special vertical curlers. Curls look natural and neat.
