Vacation time in China. China: “We are not rich enough to lead an idle life. Chinese in Russia

In Russia, compulsory leave is 28 calendar days (that is, 20 working days), and 14 more days a year are declared holidays. It turns out that, in addition to weekends, the average resident of Russia rests for 34 days (and those who have irregular working hours are entitled to additional leave - from three days). How many vacations abroad? Let's talk!

Austria

You can count on such a vacation duration with a five-day working week, with a six-day vacation lasts for 30 days. And after 25 years of work in one place, it increases by another five.

Greece

The rhythm of Greek life is so leisurely and calm that sometimes the Greeks are accused of laziness. However, not entirely deserved. Their vacation is less than in many other European countries: with a five-day working week - 20 working days, with a six-day working week - 24.

Finland

The length of leave for an ordinary worker in Finland depends on the length of service. According to the law, if he works less than one year, for each month he earns two days of vacation. A year later, the rate increases to two and a half days.

Spain

You will not be able to receive monetary compensation instead of vacation. In Spain, this is prohibited by labor law. It also prohibits the transfer of vacation to the next year. Did not want to rest in due time - your problems. Days that haven't been spent are burning away.

Great Britain

Residents of the UK know their worth and, when applying for a job, they always ask not only about the salary, but also about the duration of the vacation in the company. The minimum paid vacation is 28 working days. But there are eight more days of official holidays. The trick is that the employer has the right not to add holidays to the vacation, but to include them in it. So, someone rests 36 days a year (besides weekends), and someone - 28. And no violation of the law!

France

When calculating holidays in France, the number of hours an employee works per week is taken into account. Employees who choose a 39-hour workweek instead of the standard 35-hour workweek are entitled to two additional weeks of vacation.

Lithuania

On July 1, 2017, a new Labor Code came into force in the country. Now one part of the vacation must be at least ten working days. The remaining ten can be taken as you like - at least for one day. Moreover, 20 working days is the minimum duration of vacation for those who work five days a week. Those who work six days a week have more vacation - 24 working days.

For the people of Lithuania, who have a lot of experience behind them, the changes will only benefit. Now, after ten years of continuous service, an employee has an additional three working days instead of three calendar days for vacation. And for every five subsequent years - one more working day.

Denmark

For each month worked, an employee is entitled to 2.08 vacation days. In total, 25 working days accumulate in a year. Of these, five can be taken not entirely, but divided by one day. For example, not working on Mondays for five weeks in a row.

Japan

Despite the fact that the law establishes a minimum vacation time, Japanese workaholics rarely adhere to it. Resting is considered bad manners. Most often, the Japanese vacation lasts five to six days. And the locals make up for the lack of sleep throughout the year. The only reason that can make the Japanese take a break is a national holiday.

Italy

In August, a complete calm sets in in the life of Italians. The first vacationers rush to the beaches in the first days of the month, and on August 15, when the national holiday of Ferragosto is celebrated, the official vacation period begins. At this time, cities literally die out. Even the factories don't work! And on the doors of shops and restaurants there is often a sign: "Closed for the holidays."

Australia

The duration of a vacation in Australia is the same as in Russia. But there are fewer holidays. Moreover, each state has its own holidays, even national ones are often celebrated on different days.

Argentina

In terms of the number of holidays, Argentina occupies a leading position. In this case, if the holiday falls on a weekend, it is transferred to the next working day. Perhaps, as a sign of compensation for the large number of holidays, the vacation in the country was decided to be short. However, ten working days it lasts only if the length of service in one place is less than five years. After this period, the leave increases to 15 days, after 10 years - up to 20 days, and after 20 - up to 25.

Germany

According to German law, every employee is entitled to a vacation of 20 working days for a five-day work week and 24 for a six-day work week. This is an iron minimum. But employers often add to this. On average, employees have 25-29 days a year to rest.

The number of holidays depends on the region. The legislation states that the announcement of days off is within the competence of the Länder. The exception is German Unity Day, which falls on 3 October. Eight more holidays are celebrated in all 16 lands. Further - where how. For example, the inhabitants of Bavaria celebrate the Day of St. Epiphany, the Body and Blood of Christ and the Day of the Reformation, while the inhabitants of Thuringia celebrate only the Day of the Reformation.

Netherlands

Residents of the Netherlands do not prepare in advance for the holidays, but for the funeral: every year in this country, one day off is set aside for the funeral of members of the royal family. If no one died, it is added to the vacation. By the way, King's Day (or Queen's Day, depending on who is on the throne at the moment) is the only holiday that is postponed if it falls on a weekend.

South Korea

As in many other Asian countries, it is customary in South Korea to work hard. But rest is not accepted. A short vacation and that one is crushed. A vacation of 20 working days, as in Russia, is an unimaginable luxury by Korean standards. Getting sick in South Korea is also not accepted. Due to illness, it is allowed to miss only one day a month, and even then due to vacation. Sick leave is paid only if the person was in the hospital.

Israel

From January 1, 2017, the minimum vacation period has increased from 10 to 12 days. This is the first increase since 1951. 12 days of vacation will now be received by employees who have worked for the company on a five-day work week for less than five years. With a six-day working week and less than five years of work experience, the duration of the vacation will be 16 days. After working for the company for five years, an employee can count on the fact that every year his vacation will increase by one or two days.

Singapore

In the first year of work here, it makes no sense to wait for a vacation lasting more than seven working days. Then every year the employee is added one day, until 14 are typed. Russians can only wonder how, with such a short vacation, the people of Singapore manage to take days off not all days. However, in the country of fines, indeed, a lot of things are impossible - officially and not very much.

China

During the first ten years of work, vacation is five days, then ten, and after 20 years - 15. But even such a short vacation, many Chinese refuse to earn extra money. They rest, like the Japanese, on holidays, many of which last several days.

India

Republic Day, Independence Day and Mahatma Gandhi's Birthday have the status of public holidays. The rest are regional. Therefore, the total number of public holidays varies by state.

Mexico

Vacation time is highly dependent on seniority. Beginners are out of luck. They have only six days to rest. After four years of work at one enterprise, the duration of the vacation is increased by two weeks, after five years of service - two more days are added for every five subsequent years.

USA

The US is one of the few countries where vacations are treated as a privilege, thanks to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. It regulates the maximum number of working hours per week, overtime work, the minimum wage, but does not mention a single word about paid vacation.

Therefore, Americans are not legally allowed to leave. The decision on its duration and payment is made by the employers themselves. But even for those Americans who have paid vacations in companies, it is not easy to take it. The principle of the work culture is such that people are afraid to take a break, as they can be labeled as quitters. Attempts to change the situation have not been made for the first year, but so far they have failed.

Andrey M. works for a large Chinese company that sells household appliances. For several years, Andrei has accumulated a huge number of interesting stories about his Chinese boss. Recently, there was a merger in the history of the company, after which there were two bosses, and the number of interesting stories increased proportionally.

Meetings with Mr. Gennady

During the time that I have been working, I noticed: the head of the Russian representative office is changed from time to time, sending to Russia from Beijing first one leader, then another. All visitors at the same time take Russian names: for example, Mr. Ivan or Mr. Gennady. And we had one leader who was terribly fond of conferring. We could sit in his office for half a day, and he kept talking and talking. At the same time, from time to time he was also interested in the opinions of those present, but it was obvious that this was just for show.

The same boss sometimes showed himself to be a real despot. In particular, he demanded to install on the office computer and on his personal (“personal iPhone” - this was his personal strong recommendation to his subordinates) a special chat program like ICQ. Since all the bosses are Chinese, they write their orders into this chat room in their native language, and then the translator translates. In addition, through this chat, the authorities directly from China control which of the employees are on site and who are not. Through the same messenger, communication is also maintained with other departments - with accounting, for example, or with a warehouse. Theoretically, you can not use it, but all important information goes through it, reports too. It's not good to refuse. And, by the way, if the boss is not satisfied with the results of the day's work, demonstrated to him through this chat room, you will be fined - 500 rubles.

C - stinginess

At any opportunity, the authorities are ready to deduct a badly lying ruble from my salary. There was a case when, in honor of the May holidays, we were all released from work four hours earlier. And when it came time to receive a salary, it turned out that these four hours were deducted for everyone. Then each employee reminded the manager that that shortened pre-holiday working day was both the initiative of the authorities and, in general, the law. But no! To all our indignations, the general director made a surprised face and stated that he had heard for the first time that he had to pay for the time that we did not work.

At the entrance, we have a system that controls the presence of employees in the office. At first it was necessary to put a finger, then the management introduced special cards. They had to be registered at the entrance and exit, and at the end of the month they had to be handed over to the accounting department, where there was a strict calculation: if you were absent from the office for more than four hours in a month (taking time off, being late, going out for a smoke), you were deprived of half of your salary, and if more than six hours - you get fired. A separate story with sick leave is that people in China do not get sick for more than one day, therefore in Russia, even if you have a “free” certificate, you can get sick for one day. All subsequent will be deducted from the vacation.

The Chinese authorities have a very specific approach to personal and public property. For example, we only have plastic cups for customers. Employees must use their personal ones, and if they do take a plastic one, its cost will be deducted from the salary. We also decided not to spend money on a cleaner: we clean the office with our own hands, one at a time and once a week.

It was also a great Christmas present. Suddenly, the authorities decided to send employees on vacation to Goa. Those who were able to go were paid for air tickets (the hotel had to be booked on the spot at their own expense). Those who couldn't were forced to work two days longer and received no compensation for their refusal.

Cancellation leave

In the summer of 2015, our boss announced that due to the difficult economic situation, vacations in the company were canceled. At the end of the summer, our company merged with another company - no one canceled vacations in it. And then the boss demanded that all the employees who joined immediately pack their bags and fly home from the resorts, because “the vacation was canceled in our company.”

There is no social package, of course. We are motivated by the fact that we, they say, work in an international company with high standards. If you do not meet the standards, we do not hold you. In general, I think this is such a peculiar approach to building a business: the Chinese do not cherish and train employees, they do not grow them in the company, as is done in Europe. After all, China has a very cheap labor force, our bosses proceed from this, forgetting that they came to another country.

You can go to the toilet three to four times a day. Surprisingly, the authorities are fixing this. Half an hour is allocated for lunch from 13:00 to 15:00. Lunch, basically, everyone carries with them - you don’t run into canteens.

The difference in mentality

The Chinese are somewhat similar to the Russians: if you have good relations with one of them, he will begin to cover and shield you. But in general, the difference in mentality is significant.

They have one interesting point. For example, if you put a Chinese before a choice, you will get a ruble today or three hundred tomorrow, then he will most likely choose an immediate profit. Either he does not like to work for the future, or he does not know how.

Another curious fact: for some reason, the Chinese do not want to train Russian engineers in the service trade, preferring to send their own from China. Once they announced for a long time that they would send a super-specialist with a super-tool, which turned out to be an ordinary screwdriver. And this super-specialist, when they called him with a request to come and fix something, listened to the description of the breakdown and thoughtfully said: “I can fix it by 74%.” And every time he called a strange number. I still wonder how he calculated it. But this “specialist”, however, was replaced with a more competent one a couple of months later.

Chinese in Russia

It is very difficult for the Chinese to understand that they are in another country. For example, they may reproach you for being sick often (although you are sick by Russian standards no more than others). You try to explain about the peculiarities of the climate - they refuse to understand and agree. There are a lot of such moments - it is difficult for them to understand that the motivation to work among Russians develops in a completely different way, that Russians in most cases are not ready to work around the clock (especially if the salary is not God knows what). We have this joke in our office: “The ideal employee in a Chinese company is a person who works 24 hours a day, seven days a week and pays the employer money for this.”

The record holder for the duration of annual paid leave is Germany. The Germans rest days a year. Well, in most countries of the Eurozone, the duration of paid vacation is 30 days.

However, not everyone is so lucky. In today's Top 10 countries with the shortest vacation, those workaholics are collected for whom even 10 days a year is an unaffordable luxury.

10. Turkey

The duration of paid labor leave in Turkey is 12 days. Those working in government structures are more fortunate - they rest for 21 days. Also, the duration of the vacation is affected by the length of service. So after 15 years from the date of employment, you can count on as much as 26 days of rest.

9. Australia

According to statistics, more than 170 Russians annually move to live in Australia. At the same time, they lose 8 days of vacation, because Australians at the expense of the employer rest 20 days a year. There are also allowances for the length of leave for seniority, but they do not apply to all categories of workers.

8. India

For every 20 days worked, an Indian gets one day of vacation, i.e. For 100 days of work, you can get 5 days to rest. Taking into account the weekends, which are usually a little more than a hundred, about 2 weeks of vacation time accumulate in a year.

7. Mexico

The duration of a paid vacation in Mexico is only 7 calendar days. In addition, it is customary in the country to give a paid day off on the day of the change of president, and this happens not too often - once every 6 years.

6. Singapore

The duration of vacation in the country increases with the length of service. In the first year, you can not count on more than a week. Then, for each year worked, one vacation day is added.

5. Canada

Standard paid leave in Canada lasts 14 days. In addition, Canadians rest on holidays, which, depending on the region, can be from 6 to 9 for the whole year, and they, of course, are not paid by the employer.

4. USA

Americans go on vacation an average of 14 days a year. The employer has the right to independently determine the duration of paid leave. However, few people go to pay 20 or more days of vacation for their employees.

3. China

Short-term employees are entitled to only 5 days of paid leave per year. But after working for 10 years, you can already get 10 days to rest. For those whose experience exceeded 20 years, paid leave in China is 15 days.

2. South Korea

Korean vacations are 2 weeks long. If an employee has worked in one place for 2 years, then he is entitled to 25 vacation days. However, according to statistics, 66% of Koreans regularly refuse vacation due to workload.

1. Japan

The shortest vacation among the inhabitants of the Land of the Rising Sun. Depending on the experience, the Japanese are supposed to have from 10 to 20 days of rest, but in practice it is considered indecent to rest more than 5 days a year.

It is well known that the Chinese are very hardworking and enterprising - they are ready to work very intensively in order to get out of poverty, educate their children, and secure savings for their old age. This fundamental motivation provides China with serious economic growth in recent decades, which is estimated at a figure of 7-10% per year. True, over the past few years, annual GDP growth has fallen to a level of 6.7%. In Russia, many politicians, deputies and economists cite China as an example, believing that this is the economic ideal.

But we often overlook the other side of the accelerated growth of the Chinese economy. And she, this side, impresses with its effects. And it's not just about environmental degradation, smog over Chinese cities, a huge stream of waste. The depreciation of human capital, fatigue, mental illness, stress and nervous breakdowns, which are associated with long work and insufficient rest, should also be taken into account.

Recall that Chinese workers with less than 10 years of work experience are entitled to an annual paid vacation of 5 days. With an experience of 10 to 20 years - vacation is 10 days. To receive a 15-day paid vacation, the work experience must be over 20 years.

As for the duration of the working week, in China it is indicated by the symbol " 996 ", that is work from 9 am to 9 pm 6 days a week .

A report released by the Academy of Social Sciences of the People's Republic of China provides the results of a study of the national labor market regarding vacations. The numbers are: 40.1% of the Chinese surveyed reported that they do not have paid annual leave, 4.1% are entitled to a vacation but cannot use it, another 18.8% also have a vacation, but their schedule is not flexible enough, so it is not possible to take a vacation it turns out that only 31.1% of respondents noted that they have paid leave and they use it at their own discretion .

In addition, in China, only civil servants have pensions. The rest need to save for old age on their own.

These are the realities of the Chinese labor market. It is unlikely that the citizens of Russia will be willing to pay such a price for significant economic growth.

Eannual vacation in Ukraine increases from 24 to 28 days.

If an employee has a voucher for sanatorium treatment, then he has the right to receive annual leave, even if he has been working at the enterprise for less than six months.

Extended leave is granted to timber industry workers (59 days), underground mining workers (69 days).

What about holidays in other countries?

You can count on such a vacation if you work five days a week. If you work six days, then the vacation will last for 30 days. And after 25 years of work in one place, it increases by another five.
