A collective feat was accomplished by 28 firefighters in the first hour after the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on April 26, 1986. These guys were preparing for a fight with fire, but they never thought that for some of them it would be the last.

Taming the fire is a matter of life for firefighters, they are trained in this, but the opposition to radiation - let's face it, is a new thing for them ... And is it their business? After all, firefighters are not equipped with anti-radiation equipment and special uniforms!

The first of the first on the path of atomic fire, torn from the damaged fourth block of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, was the fire guard, led by Lieutenant Vladimir Pravik. Five minutes later, a guard under the command of a lieutenant fought next to his comrades. A few minutes later, the head of HPV-2 for the protection of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, Major, was already in charge and personally participated in extinguishing the fire. For several hours, a handful of people fought the flames, preventing it from spreading to neighboring power units. People worked at heights above 70 meters under the constant threat of new explosions, in conditions of hard radiation.

There were 28 of them - Chernobyl firefighters, who were the first to fight the atomic disaster, who took on the heat of the flame and the deadly breath of the reactor: Vladimir Pravik, Nikolai Vashchuk, Vasily Ignatenko, Vladimir Tishura, Nikolai Titenok, Boris Alishaev, Ivan Butrimenko, Mikhail Golovnenko, Anatoly Khakharov, Stepan Komar, Andrey Korol, Mikhail Krysko, Viktor Legun, Sergey Legun, Anatoly Naydyuk, Nikolay Nechiporenko, Vladimir Palachega, Alexander Petrovsky, Petr Pivovarov, Andrey Polovinkin, Vladimir Aleksandrovich Prishchepa, Vladimir Ivanovich Prishchepa, Nikolai Rudenyuk, Grigory Khmel, Ivan Chavrey, Leonid Shavrey. Their feat is only equal to the great epochal events in the name of peace and the people of the entire planet. They saved, they shielded us all. Six of them - at the cost of their lives.

From the book of F.N. Inkizhekov "Firefighters":

This happened on the night of April 25-26, 1986. At 1:23 a.m., an explosion of terrible force thundered, raising the guards of Lieutenant Vladimir Pravik in Chernobyl, and the guard of the lieutenant in Pripyat, on combat alert. On the way, they saw a crimson glow under the cube of the reactor block. The fire broke through to the roof of the engine room. After assessing the situation, Lieutenant Pravik made a decision - to throw all the forces at his disposal to protect the reactor, to block the fire at any cost. The lieutenant led the reconnaissance of the fire. From the bottom to the top of the reactor block - 71.5 meters. Numerous fires had to be put out on its eight levels and in the engine room.

Twenty-three-year-old officers solved this problem in the most difficult, deadly environment. Major, an experienced commander, perfectly understood what a fire on the block threatened. We had to hold out until reinforcements arrived. Prevent a fire from developing into a catastrophic one. The actions of the major were clear to the officers and soldiers. Twenty-eight men took the first blow. Despising death, the commanders of the departments Vasily Ignatenko, Vasily Bulaev and Ivan Butrimenko, firefighters Vladimir Tishura, Ivan Shavrey, Nikolai Tytenok, Vladimir Prishchepa, Alexander Petrovsky fought with fire. They put their lives on the line so that the misfortune of people would pass. “These people knew what kind of fire they were putting out, they knew that it was not fire at all that threatened them, but radiation. They put it out. And they put it out. at a press conference on the work of firefighters Academician A. Vorobyov.

The feat of the Chernobyl firefighters will forever remain for us an example of courage and heroism.
